Golden Hawk Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2017Pin placement ridiculous
The course was in good shape for the amount of rain we have had, cart paths were very muddy but the course was OK. The speed of the greens did not match where the pin placements were the day we played. Greens were fast and true but almost every pin placement was placed on a downslope or upslope and impossible to get close to. Probably the reason it took 5 hours and 10 minutes to play. We were backed up on every hole (two to three groups on every hole). I have played this course at least 20 times in the past and never ran across these conditions before. The course maybe needs to look at the pin placement to help address the slow play.
Saint Clair Shores Country Club
Played On 05/03/2017Good value for the money
The course is in great shape this year, greens have a good speed and fairways are in good shape. The rough is a little long but that is because of all the rain we are getting, it makes it hard for the ground crew to cut. The only issue I have with St. Claire Shores is the lack of rangers on the course. To explain a little better the last few rounds on the course, I have ran into the same issue. Slow play and the fact that most slow golfers here will not let you play through. When 2 somes are slowing down threesomes and foursomes, something is wrong.
Lots of younger golfers playing the back tees and not getting past the forward tees on their drives then waiting for the greens to clear before hitting from 300 yards out in the fairway. Having worked as a ranger, I know policing the course would help eliminate this issue. Still it is a nice relaxing round of golf here, you can spray the ball a little and still score OK. The restaurant has great wraps and good prices on Beer.
