PGA WEST Pete Dye Mountain Course
Played On 09/08/2017Never Again!
Played this course on Friday, September 8, 2017. Was looking forward to it after reading some of the reviews of the course. While on the practice green, our group noticed the greens were extremely slow and bushy, nothing was rolling and when you did hit it harder, the ball really wouldn't roll but rather come to an abrupt stop. The fairways were in terrible condition as well, with grooves and gaps from their aeration of the course we were assuming. There was no mention of the greens nor the fairways being aerated and no "advisory notices" on the GolfNow website.
The greens were the real issue, super slow and very fury so the ball would never really roll. You could hit a bump and run and all you got was the bump. I wish the course would have informed the players of the condition of the course and we all could have saved some aggravation.
We played Desert Willow-Firecliff and the Marriott Shadow Ridge course the following days and needless to say, those courses made up for any lack of confidence we might have had for golf courses in the desert!
Thank you for your comments on The Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort & Club. We appreciate the time and effort that you put into your review - any feedback we receive from our guests is invaluable in our quest for continuous improvement. At the time you played, the course had just come out of an aerification and it generally takes ten days for the course to recover. However, the greens took longer to recover because of the extreme heat and humidity we experienced this summer. Aggressive summer agronomic practices are necessary to help promote healthy turf conditions - and it is not an exact science. The other courses in the valley perform aerification at various times during the summer so all courses are not in the same condition at the same time. The construction you encountered next to the course was due to a drainage basin that had to be installed because of flooding into the houses next to the course. We feel badly that you did not enjoy your round - that is not the way we want anyone to leave after playing our course(s). Please contact our Clubhouse Manager, Alan Bonin at 760-564-5712 - we would like to invite you back to play under better circumstances.
