Excellent value at a unique course.
Working directly through the course, you can get three rounds for less than $200.

DEFINITELY need a golf cart since Makalei is on the side of a mountain. However, its design makes excellent use of its unique topography.

Lots of birds around, especially peacocks.

We played Makalei three times this January and every round was enjoyable.

Great value for the money. This course was very well maintained when we played. The greens were fast and in excellent shape.

In an area where there are many great golf courses including Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Poppy Hills, etc., this course stands out as a tremendous bargain for the avid golfer who appreciates a good challenge. Although Bayonet and BlackHorse are equally well-maintained, BlackHorse provides the better challenge and has better views of Monterey.

In January, the weather was ideal and the course was in great shape. Although not as challenging as some of the courses in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, it also was not nearly as expensive as those other courses. Although it is better suited to an average or below average player, it was still both interesting and enjoyable.

This course was recently renovated. They did an excellent job. Having played several well-known courses in the Scottsdale area, this is one of my favorites. Given a choice between Camelback"s Padre course and this one, Ambiente will win my selection every time.

The Camelback Padre course is a reasonable value and provides low-moderate challenges for the average golfer. However, if I only had one day at Camelback, I would definitely play their Ambiente course which we played the following day and which my wife and I and our playing partners found more interesting, more challenging, and much more enjoyable.
