They have a driving range

They have a driving range with real grass to hit from. They have a nice little putting green where you can work on chipping and sand. It's too early in the Maine season to talk about the course. When you consider that the whole state was still covered in snow just a little more than a week ago---it's in nice shape. Everything is very soft--but--there still are no bugs! It's a great place to work out the kinks. Let's face it--just like the course still needs some early spring attention--so does our bodies and our game. Why drop nearly 100 dollars someplace--when you can come here for less than 20 and get the same wake-up call.

a nice place to work on your game

I live only 15 minutes from this course. I just retired in this area---so I figured I would give it a try-- I just got out of the Army ( you see alot of golf courses) my last assisgnment was in Arizona---lots of great golf courses---this place is not one of them
It is a quite simple place in very good shape. The greens are in wonderful condition--most of the fairways are in very playable condition---some spots need some extra care. The rough is just but fair--( that's why they call it the rough) Bunkers are well maintained. If you are a beginer--come here--the driving range is real grass--not those dumb mats--- the course will make you remember what you have to do to be a success. If you are a more experienced golfer--then---it's 20 bucks---go there and work on your game--then eat a hot dog--complain about things in general and enjoy a very relaxing day. very near Brunswick-10 minutes off 295

PUSHING OPENING DAY

I just retired from the Army--my last two assignments were GA and AZ. I have retired here in the Bath area. I am getting very impatient with cold-snow -wind and mud--yet I went to Bath CC to give it a shot For the time of year--the fact that only a week ago there had been a foot of snow on the ground---the place was in fine shape and you could tell the crew was eager to just make it better.
I am optimistic to give this place when there is some sun and heat and less wind.

THE ECONO SOUTHERN DUNES

Calling this "the econo-Southern Dunes" is not an insult. I have played Southern Dunes several times now. I can not understand why the price is so high. Maybe they think they can charge extra for the flies and the smell.
This was my first time at the Duke. I am certain I will return--often. This is a very real golf club. The food is fine--and they have a nice promo--it's almost like eating for free--in a nice room. The course is challenging enough for anyone. However- this place was only a surprise to me....everyone already knew what I had just discovered this place is the best value within 60 miles. Come early so you can have time to eat before or after you play.

you can't beat this place

Come here to play golf--not the breath taking views. This course is in great shape. It's laid out so that every level can have a fun day. ( the 18th has a two pond lay out---you clear the first pond--and the second one is right there---this also means the area to drop your first shot is a little tight---but--it is very doable--)- The rough is cut so that it is playable but annoying-( that is why you're supposed to avoid it). The greens run true and are just the good side of normal. 3 out of seven days are windy---welcome to Arizona. This course has a nice restaurant overlooking the 18th hole..with good lunch food. This course is about three minutes off the inter-state--route 10. The only other course this close to the inter-state is Quarry Pines. San Pedro ( however) is not attached to some 55 and over snow bird housing development --- it is at the edge of a real Arizona town with "character"--Benson.
Absolutely play this course.

A NICE PLACE WORTH THE TRIP

This course gets lots of comments about being difficult. The truth--It's a course that requires placement. Most greens require an approach over nothing but deep bunkers. As long as you use your brain with a dose of caution, you'll do great.

A good course at agreat facility

Wild Horse Pass is a fine resort with a great deal of things to do.
The course was in great shape...especially for the torrid Arizona summer. There are plenty of water stations. The ranger really does his job... and even drops off a wet towel that comes from and ice chest.
Most of the fairways are open and forgiving The greens are a moderate speed. Most of them have a possible way to approach them without fear. The rough is just thick enough to make you adjust for the situation. Play this course. If you are out of state--stay at the resort

This course is a very nice escape

Just off the interstate--( not 30 miles down several city streets to the foot of a mountain) , tucked in the back of a very alive town that has real hotels, real places to eat and shop ( Benson), is San Pedro Golf Course. It is the town golf course ( not a part of a housing development). You pull off the interstate, and play golf. The course is in fine shape...not great..fine. The fairways are covered with grass that is cut to just the right height to play well. The rough?? is rough... That is why you are supposed to hit the ball on the fairway...perhaps that is why they call it """ THE ROUGH""? The greens are laid out well, they are perhaps the best maintained part of the golf course. Also, very important, keep in mind that you are about 7,000 feet up in the air...my point? when it is 100 degrees in Tucson, it is only 85 in Benson AZ.
I say play this course..then eat in the Horse Shoe restaurant in town; it's down by the Benson train station The golf course is fine...the town is a taste of small town America...well worth the trip

placement is key

This course is near absolutely nothing. However, it is a beautiful layout. You are surrounded by majestic mountains and hawks. The club house is a part of a country club.
The greens were in fine shape ( a little slow). The course itself requires that you place each shot. There are only ( perhaps) three holes that require you just let loose with a driver. It is worth the trip (at least once). I don't think I saw even one water cooler. There is one bathroom located at a key intersection--with an ice machine that didn't work.
In brief--the course is fine. I am sure I will be back. Play the course and then have a cold drink on the shaded deck that has cold mist.

As good as any other real golf course in the area

Yes---this course is always in fine shape--and --come with the right attitude. This course is a real challenge-- on purpose. The staff is very professional. The club house is average for the region---but - average for this region means that it is worth a visit. BUT---BUT!! IT SMELLS LIKE COW DUNG---no really--it does...and what do all flies love???? thus there are 9 billion flies that will cling to everything--you--the cart-- your drinks and food... In my opinion--play this course in the winter---or once now,, just to have a very interesting event.. a 20 foot putt requires concentration any time---with 20 flies stuck to your body and a stench you will never forget--a 20 foot putt requires real focus..
play it once then you decide.

A NICE PLACE WORTH THE TRIP

San Pedro is in fine shape. The place is a hidden gem.. I played for 15.00 dollars. The fairways are cut to just the right height--and there is grass! The greens are a little quick--but that is part of the game--the greens are in great shape.. The pace of play is perfect.
The area is about 10 degrees cooler than Tucson.

YOU COULD DO A LOT WORSE

I just read the most recent reviews... As the deceased Joan Rivers would have said---oh please--grow up. No one seemed to mention that southern Arizona had just received a real snow storm and freezing cold for over a week. The guy in the pro shop? yes--the whole staff is a bit """dry"" I am not visiting from some other state...I play about 4 days a week all year long. There is not a golf course in southern Arizona that I have not played. The people in the pro shop are always bland. No one ever says hello--you are lucky if they look at you. They always just take your money and give you the keys to a cart.
But--now for why I hope you are reading this--the golf course--- it's fine--keep in mind--it is winter--you know --the season when grass dies??? The fairways are now narrow but fine...The greens are being prepared for the spring...The are very playable ( slow ) but fine. They are rolled out--they are slow--but they will be in great shape by March. You can go right now to many places in Tucson right now--and pay over 100 dollars for a round of golf and find the same conditions....well not the """same conditions"" each hole will have a 10 minute wait....and your burger and beer will cost you 30 dollars instead of 10....BUT--- i am sure the guy at the pro shop will smile and make small talk--- I know for 150 dollars I would. Play San Pedro it's worth the trip. While you are down this way-- stay over night in Bisbee and play TURQUOISE VALLEY The oldest course in Arizona and it has a par 6.... On the way home hit Del Lago... a course worth the money and great average food. AVOID KINO SPRINGS

YOU REALLY CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS PLACE

THIS COURSE IS ONE OF THE BEST KEPT SECRETS IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA. The course is in fine shape. The skill level is just enough for everyone to have a challenging good day. It has a club house with very good ---fair priced food. The whole place is very clean and relaxed. It's easy to get to--about 600 yards off interstate 10. I have played nearly every course in the Tuscon area. This is not the best course in southern Arizona--but dollar for dollar--you will not be disappointed.

Someone had said best Grass in Tuscon

I had read a review that said this place had the best conditions in an area flooded by Golf courses. Well--- if it doesn't live up to this claim of best conditions-- ( Sewallo and Turquoise Valley are in the running for this honor as well ) it is definitely one of the top three--HOWEVER-- When you talk about the best overall course--in my book--this place wins.-- it has the best views on the back 9--the back nine can also boast of the most challenging holes in Tuscon.
It's a bit of a ride--but well worth it

You can play in these conditions anywhere

I live in Fort Huachuca ---it is about three hours from this course. Aplace called Turquoise Valley- in Naco AZ has a staff of ten and the conditions there are far better than this place. Sewallo in Tuscon is the home field of University of Arizona--it very possibly has the best golf course ( over all ) in Southern Arizona. Southern Dunes is good. From most of the back tees--it's a true challenge. The greens become a challenge thanks to the bunkers.
It's a good course---it could be better

one of the best in Tucson

You will need all of your clubs---and some Golf smarts...More than you need to smash the ball--you need to read the situation and play smart... Many holes are not very forgiving... It is a great ---real-- golf course--- it is in near perfect shape---the greens might be the best in Arizona.

POOR MAN'S STARR PASS

I arrived at this course and my first thought was why did I drive all this way for this place?
However, after the first two holes ( which could use some loving care) the rest of the course is in fine shape. It is not your average Tucson Golf course---- There are real hills--as in New England Golf. The course is a little short... the dog legs and hills make up for it. It is certainly worth the drive--and a visit--at least once....you won't really need your driver---but you will need your irons and some skill.

I usually try to shy away from courses with a housing development around them--but this place is a very real golf course. It is in great condition and just enough of a challenge. There is a healthy mix of bunkers and water, and some steep hills.

AN INTERESTING SURPRISE

This is a golf course built within a housing development. But! It is not a dump. It is a very real golf course with it's own personality ( to say the least) The first 9 holes ( the original course ) are built with a walled or fenced in housing development usually to your right ( but it's not really a distraction) and a very real and very deep quarry to your left. If you make a mistake---you lose---there is no second shot at redemption--you are dropping a ball. The second 9 holes are actually within a quarry---it was a great idea. One par 3 is 118 yards---DOWN--JUST DOWN it's just an air drop of your ball. Again---with most of the back 9 there is very little room for error--but--it makes for a great day---YOU WILL USE ALL OF YOUR CLUBS THE DAY YOU PLAY HERE

WORTH THE TRIP

This course is in great shape--it's a part of a Dell Webb "active adult" community. But! it is a very real course--and it's in great shape. You can go to Tuscon and play Dove Mountain or Lowes Ventana for about 100. dollars--- or you can drive 20 minutes and play on the same caliber course with the same conditions for about 20 dollars.
This course makes for a great day out. You will enjoy yourself and be some what challenged.
