Palm Valley Golf Club - North/South
Played On 04/28/2019West North
We were a foursome. The west 9 was our intro to this facility, and it clearly has some growing in to do, and we were not quite sure of the direction of play off of some tees, so we played the first 4 holes twice! On purpose, just because! The West 9 looks wide open, but position and distance control are key to scoring.
The North 9 was next, and it was a fun, mature layout, with cool driving strategy, some nice elevation change, and variety of distances. Play was very fast, and we finished our n exactly 4 hours for 22 holes.
Overall, we appreciated the practice range, chipping areas and huge putting green to warm up.
A special mention to the pro shop guy, who was super nice and welcoming.
Thanks Palm Valley!

Played in 3 1/2 hours as a foursome and had a great time as we Canadians played with an Oragander and a Michigonian.. Fine fairways, traps, greens and not a single goose or other nuisance bird.

Played here many times several years ago, and back in Phoenix again, so we gave it a look. It was even better than I remembered,. Word of wisdom.....play slightly away from all bunkers and don’t let the generous fairways let you get complacent. The fairways were healthy, greens average speed and large, and bunkers big and plentiful, with lots of good sand. The cart person quit at 3 pm, but plenty of cool water on course to keep us hydrated. We will play here again, often, as it’s a terrific course for the price, and pace of play less than 3 1/2 hrs.

New carts, free range balls, lots of sand in bunkers, just over 3 hours round, excellent fairways and greens, plus played with a terrifically friendly new member name d Terry. My name too!

I’m fairly sure there were only 2 staff on duty when we arrived for our 1:30 tee time, and that is for the entire facility. A new clubhouse is under construction but yet to open, so a trailer serves as everything. The rough was sparse and the fairways not clearly delineated, so direction of play off the tee was an issue on many holes. We also had trouble finding the 10th tee, as no signage indicated that we had to cross a roadway. Greens were not consistent in speed. Several carts, albeit with blue flags on them, were driven onto green fringes, and very able bodied players then got out and putted, etc. Dubious need. Many ball marks, divots and poorly raked bunkers. Almost Lastly, our score card already had another players score.....very bad karma. Lastly, a Trump 2020 flag was displayed on a property backing on to the course. It also stated “end the bu######t”. We all know Trump cheats at golf, ,making this flag inappropriate. Other reasons come to mind as well. Resist.

This course has got its act together, as they have been around seemingly forever, but try hard as if they value every player for every round. The pro shop staff are friendly and efficient, the Marshall was around several times and was super friendly, and the beverage cart was probably by 5 times. The greens were fast, the bunkers well tended, and the fairways were evenly cut to allow good shotmaking. The holes are close together, and with the course very full, we got around in just over 4 hours, only waiting once, on 17. This place is the best value in the area, and of 12 courses played in the last two months, it’s the highest rated, including many other much higher priced facilities. Always a great time at Dobson......thanks!

All around terrific course today with fairways in great shape, greens very smooth and quick and the rough not very long so quite playable. Several bunkers had little sand while others were normal....otherwise the course gets a 5/5 instead of 4/5. Scoring was tough today, because of 25 mph gusts and near constant grit moving through the valley into our faces from the west. We played in 4:30 as a foursome....and would play it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Legacy!
Fantastic! We're glad that our course conditions met your expectations and that you enjoyed the challenge of our layout. We appreciate your review and we look forward to having you back again soon!

This is as good as it gets at ANY price. Classic course, perfect conditions and 90 degrees of dry heat.....love it, and Wig-Wam Gold course.

Played On 04/02/2019Long grass
It was our first time playing the course, and the most noticeable feature was the longish grass on the practice range, fairways and greens. The course .is rather short so I suspect the longish fairway turf keeps rollout to a minimum, but it actually allowed the ball to sit down slightly. Perhaps a mower adjustment would be in order. The layout is fun and the greens are really large, but quite slow. Given some of their extreme slope, it probably helps pace of play. The pro shop looks temporary in its location in the corner/of the large lounge, and there are few signs to guide a newby to several tees. Overall, it’s a fun course to play repeatedly for locals, and needs several rounds to get used to lines and distances.

We have played several rounds a year here for the past 5 years, and always enjoyed the variety of holes, as well as the friendliness of the staff, and the extraordinary value for our golfing buck. The course today was in great shape, with thick healthy fairways and fast soft greens. Sadly, we had to pay for range balls, which is fair, but the old cart fleet is gone, replaced by brand new vehicles which have 2 USB ports and an ice box. Great trade off. We played in well under 4 hours, and had a blast once again.

After the first few easy holes, the course gets interesting, the greens get huge and the fun starts, then continues all the way foe the round. The clubhouse closed at 5, so rating is lower, but it’s really about the golf, which was terrific.

We played in 4 hours behind some really fun groups who, like us, used the time between shots to enjoy the activities on Luke AFB next door. The course had a nice clean layout, the fairways were healthy and the greens quick and readable. The pro shop welcome was very friendly nad guided u through the range procedure until our group was called to the first tee in a cool announcement. We will be back!

I’d read several reviews that stated the fairways were generous, but I managed to leave myself all sorts of trouble by missing fairways, and then having challenging recovery shots hampered by well placed trees or bunkers. The greens were large, although a little slower than I’ve been used to, but were smooth and consistent. The course was fun for our mixed foursome, and can say that we will come back, and bring guests.

We have been coming to Arizona since 2012, and this is our first opportunity to golf a lot in NW Phoenix area. Having played many of the standard subdivision type courses, e were so pleasantly surprised to find a well laid out course with variety, length and risk/reward. The only weakness was the hardness of the bunker base, which brought some unexpected havoc, but they are called hazards for a reason. The greens were quick and consistent, with fair runoff areas, leaving several options for recovery. The staff were hard working and very friendly, and genuinely cared that we had a fine day. Well, job well done !

Played On 03/11/2019Water me!
We played in just over 3 1/2 hours on this fun course, because we never had to look for a ball, and didn’t stop at the turn. The course was not busy, although we ultimately caught up to a foursome, who quit after about 16 holes. The course meanders through a trailer park, and I suspect they were residents. The only drawback was the sparse, hard greens made approach shots hard to hold , and fairways ran out into thin insignificant rough. Add some water, and this would be a gem. As it is, it’s a great place to play a round for us folks from the north who are happy to have a good place to play.

My wmom fed and I had not touched a club for 4 months, and found this a perfect place to play in 3 hours, hit several balls on every hole, and even play the wrong hole once....fairways and greens in good shape and range balls were half price. Thanks !

The Gold Course is a true gem, where Robert Trent Jones Sr. developed a masterpiece. Every shot has subtle consequences yet there are always several options to limit damage, and many ways to make birdie. The greens are fairly quick, but best be below the hole. The bunkers are the best in the Phoenix region. The approach shots needed are varied, and the greens will hold a pure strike. I'm a 5 handicap, and after 16 holes, was 6 over par. Ugh to strong wind on 17 and the canal on 18. Fantastic finishing hole.......classic. All I can say is beware a front pin on 18. This course will be relevant for 100 years, because it may be perfect.
Thank you for the great review! We are so happy you enjoyed the Gold Course.

Many years ago, this course was was a popular teaching and playing destination for those of the Sam Snead generation, including the Slammer. It's now tired, and minimally kept at a level where green fees are higher than acceptable and service is all about maximizing profit. The carts are old, the bunkers are hard, the tee boxes are harder, and the greens are pockmarked by ball marks. Play here only if you get a great rate, and be prepared for a 5 hour round, as I've had about 3/4 of my games here this year. Lastly, beware of errant range balls while playing hole 1.

Al 3 nines are forgettable with similar length par 3s, short par 5s and boring par 4s. The pro shop closes at 5. The water available at the par 3s was clean, but not even cool.....add ice folks! The carts were not in very good shape, and had no coolers, commonly seen elsewhere. The range balls were very old while the hitting area had not been moved for perhaps a week. Sorry Oakwood, step up your game, because there is a llot of competition out there doing it better.

Wow, took 3 years of Phoenix vacations to find this unsophisticated gem. Every hole looks cool, is varied, and wants me to come back for revenge. I will.
Thank you for visiting us at Aguila Nine Golf Course. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Hi Terry. Thanks for the awesome review! As part of the new management it is one our goals to ensure our customers leave with as great of an experience as yours! We look forward to meeting you next time you're teeing off!
