Lakeview Golf Club - Lake Course
Played On 03/09/2020Nice
Lakeview was in fine shape considering it was early March and still "Winter" conditions. Course was dry, greens fast, although bumpy, but, again, not fair to criticize due to how early it is in the season. Pace of play was excellent and overall well worth the price.

This is a relatively straightforward and playable course - good for higher handicappers - not too long and very well kept. Greens were smooth but slow. Pace of play was slow, though the ranger did his best to move things along. No problem with goose droppings as far as I could see. Friendly staff. No driving range. Golfnow deal for $49 was reasonable but standard green fees are $89.
Lake St. Catherine Country Club
Played On 08/11/2014Dissapointing
Yes, this course does offer some wonderful views, however, the course conditions were far from ideal. Crabgrass tee-boxes,only passable fairways, and many greens with large bare spots. Some holes generous, some very tight. Fractured cart paths almost undriveable. Most important, this course did NOT honor the GolfNow rate, but insisted on charging us their standard green-fee. Can't say that I would return here anytime soon.
Cape Royal Golf Club - Queen/King
Played On 02/26/2014Avoid
The course conditions were atrocious. Chewed up greens, fairways and tee-boxes, top-seeded, sandy greens. Confusion between pro-shop and starter and online bookings, promises made then broken as to playing as twosome. We were told in the pro-shop that the bunkers are no longer hazards, but instead to be considered waste areas, so you can ground you club. They are waste areas because there are no rakes. All this for the ridiculous price of $75? Even the drinking water tasted funny. As we were finishing up there were perhaps 6 carts on the first tee. I can't imagine going back to this course in the future.
Cape Royal Golf Club - Queen/King

The February rates for Royal Tee were around $75 but the course conditions were just atrocious. Overbooked, crowded, chewed up fairways, tee-boxes, and greens (which were also thick with top-dressing sand). The bunkers are in such poor shape that they don't supply rakes and tell their customers that they are no longer considered hazards but are now "waste areas" so you can ground your club in them. Brother. Confusion with online bookings, promises made by the pro shop to play as a twosome not kept. Nothing at all good to say about the quality, conditions and pace of play. And as we were finishing up, there were perhaps 15-20 golfers at the first tee. And all for $75? Even the drinking water tasted funny. A strong "Do Not Recommend."
Rock Harbor Golf Course - Rock
Played On 9/6/2013Nice round
Rock Harbor - Rock Course - is a well maintained facility, playable and challenging at the same time. Green are large and generally in good shape. There are some funky holes and characteristics - like the cinder "waste areas" on holes 12 and14 and some dramatic elevation changes, particularly on the back nine. One thing to consider is that the yardage markers are scarce and sometime non-existent on more than a few holes. Bring your GPS device and you will have a great time.
Sly Fox Golf Club
Played On 8/6/2013Neglected
Played Jackson Chase in early August and have very little good to say about the course. Chewed-up tee boxes, acres of uncut crabgrass and mountains of goose droppings. Neglected greens and bunkers and an empty parking lot, perhaps due to the poor conditions. Low price does not justify a round with such a marginally playable condition.
Sly Fox Golf Club
Played On 7/22/2013Needs attention
Jackson Chase is a course that needs immediate attention. Crab grass, goose droppings, chewed up tee boxes and unattended bunkers are some of the problems. Greens were fair. No drinking water offered anywhere on the course. The lower price made draw some some golfers but the price reflects the course conditions.
Rock Harbor Golf Course - Rock
Played On 5/1/2013Tip-top conditions
The course was in wonderful shape, plush spring-time conditions on tee boxes, fairways and greens. Played quickly and staff was accomodating. One issue- for me - was they could do a better job with distance markers. Some were not to be found and those that were visible seemed to be off a bit. But that's nitpicking over an otherwise enjoyable course and round.
Red/White at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club
Played On 9/21/2012Beautiful course and facility
This 27 hole course is the gem of the Northern Virginia area. Well maintanined, maincured fairways and greens, accomodating staff and beautiful facility make this course a pleasure to play and a fun day. Staff is friendly and accomodating. Practice area, putting green, restaurant and all at a GREAT price. Can't say enough nice things about Shenandoah Valley.
