Beautiful course in great condition!

I see a lot of poor ratings here from before 2017, but in January 2018 I found everything about the Par-70 Beach Course to be just perfect for a pleasant day of golf. Yes, the greens may be on the slow side, but they were still slightly the quickest of the 3 different courses I played in 7 days on two islands. I found all 3 Hawaii green speeds to really be pretty similar. Pay attention to the grain!
The staff was nice and friendly in the Pro Shop, the starters (I practiced the day before) helpful and very accommodating and the putting green was the same speed as the course (a blessing- it's not like that everywhere!) and there was a nice chipping/bunker practice area next to a large grass driving range to give you everything you need to prepare.
The course conditions were excellent, with wide open and clean fairways, very playable rough, fluffy white sand bunkers and a little water added to a few holes just to change up the beautiful palm tree & black lava settings that prevail throughout. I played on a pretty calm day for Hawaii and the breeze was just enough to be welcome, although it can still gust and fool you. Playing the resort tees (my driver distance is only about 220 these days) I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day, actually shooting my handicap without being particularly sharp.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone staying at the resort- it's simply great at $100, and if you're not staying there it's still a fine choice at $150, which is the typical visitor rate for most nice courses in Hawaii. I wish I would have played the Waikoloa King's Course, too- next time!

Better buy a yardage book!

Very nice! Great conditions and each hole was totally different. However... many bunkers are hidden from sight and without knowing where they are, shots that look great can end up being miserable. Also, the bunkers are supposedly exact replicas, so depending on which British Open hole they are modeled after the sand- no, make that dirt- can be anything from nicely playable to "forget about advancing the ball and just go out backwards". A couple of greens were also completely hidden from sight, making for even more anxiety.
But I truly liked it... it was a unique course opposed to the typical Las Vegas offerings and really very interesting. I've now played 3 "British Open tribute" courses (Texas & Florida before) and this was the best of them, but it was hair-pulling to hit a nice shot right over a bunker to the green only to find out you ended up in a deep pothole that was hidden from view that will cost you, or nail your drive over a hill only to end up in yet another hidden bunker.
Everyone in our group had trouble putting, as the greens can be diabolical in disguising breaks and speed, but you may be a better green reader.
Anyway, don't take this as a negative review, it was truly an enjoyable day of golf for us all. I'm 65 years old, a 9-hdcp, playing from the whites and I shot 82 with an 8 on one hole, so the course was very playable. Just be sure to buy a yardage book and steer clear of those hidden hazards!

Always a joy!

Great conditions, excellent, fun course to play. Not extremely difficult, but enough choices to enjoy making you think instead of just banging away. The greens are always in great shape, and although there's only water water on two holes, the placement and variety of sand, waste and treacherous desert areas can cost you shots if you get too wayward. The rough is seldom penal, but there are some nasty patches that they let grow and will swallow your ball forever if you're unlucky enough to get in them. At any rate, it's always been a user-friendly place to play and an enjoyable round of golf- even when you play as bad as I did today. Wish I could afford to play there more often!

Playing here for 15 years- 10 hdcp

Palm Valley has always been a fine track. Nothing spectacular, but a good, enjoyable round every time. Wide fairways allow you to blast off from the tees, but there are teeth in the last three par-3s as they are extremely tough up and downs if you miss the greens. The bunkers can be real hazards- mostly little sand covering a hard clay bottom that will have you drop-kicking your ball across the green on any downhill lie, so beware. This, however, is a trait of many Las Vegas courses as the sand gets scoured out of the bunkers due to desert windy conditions. As a note, most greens will break towards the valley as the course sits just shy of the mountains.
The course is usually fairly lush with somewhat forgiving rough. Today the course was understandably showing some scruffiness at the end of winter with near-hardpan, dormant bermuda rough making for more difficult shots from all but flat lies, but the greens were still in very good shape. They are currently the fastest on the West side of town which is making the putting more difficult than usual. But still, like an old friend, it's comfy even when it's a little cranky like today.
If you're a local, get the Loyalty Card. for $20 you get a $5 discount and a free small range bucket to hit every round, 2 free rounds after you play 8 and allowed entry into a couple of special events a year. Great deal and it's good for either Sun City courses.

Bargain Deluxe!

Very nice course in great shape overall. The day I played the greens had been sanded, but were still playable, if slow. Played with a couple of local guys that made the day even more enjoyable. At less than $50 this was the best bargain I've run into while in Florida and I'd certainly go back for another round.
My only complaint... was being directed by the Pro Shop to go out the door and told everything would be taken care of for me after I paid. After waiting alone for 10 minutes for someone to tell me where to go , I wandered around until I found the cart attendants about 100 yards away around the side of the building so that I could get the missing towel, scorecard and ice in the cooler for the cart and find out where the driving range was so I could warm up. That's when I was informed that practice balls were not included and I had to go back to the Pro Shop to buy them and then drive back several hundred yards away to the range. At that point I would have been late for my tee time if I wanted to go through with it all- because the course was on the other side of the property and about 1/4 mile away from the range! Needless to say, my score wasn't pretty on the front nine- us old guys don't fare so well going out cold. Oh well....
So that's my rant. "Service" and information was almost non-existent, of course until it was over and the smiling attendant came to wipe off my clubs and get his tip. Tell me I need to buy range balls while I'm paying for my round- and for first timers, remember that the Pro Shop, range and Panther Lake course are spread out way far apart, so get there early if you want to hit a few first.
I'm still more about the golf than anything else- and I happily give the course well-deserved kudos for a fun, interesting track. 4 1/2 stars- well maintained and very enjoyable!

Must Play

Excellent in every way- wonderful staff, perfect conditions, great aesthetics- all you could want in a golf outing.
Moist conditions made for short drives and fairway undulations meant pay attention with your approach shots. Water and sand everywhere means wild shots will cost you and putting wasn't easy as I'm from Las Vegas where you don't have to read the grain. I spent a lot of time in bunkers (dang!), but that gorgeous Florida sand made it easy to get out and within 10 feet. Didn't score well, but it was all on me-no hidden surprises, just a beautiful track that goes straight to the top of my list for Orlando.
Thanks to a great staff for outstanding service and friendliness- the best I've encountered anywhere. I hope to be back!

Rhodes Ranch is back!

Bumpy, patchy greens? Hardpan bunkers to "drop-kick" your ball out of? No more!!!
This was one of my favorite courses in Las Vegas until it struggled to be playable for the last few years, but on a hunch I went back there after the last aeration and it was just wonderful! The greens were rolling very smooth despite the two kinds of grass, the fairways were lush, the rough thick and tough but not completely unplayable- just the way you'd want a course like this to play. The aesthetics have always been a draw and it only needed some TLC to be a great place for a fun round again.
Thank you Rhodes Ranch for getting your act together- it's great to see you back! I'll be happy to return ASAP and I'll bring my friends (hopefully when the wind isn't blowing 2-3 clubs like today- but hey, sometimes you can't have everything).

Tough test for your short game!

All the Las Vegas Paiute golf courses are superb- the conditioning, perfect bunkers, the secluded setting... it's all good. Unfortunately I picked a day with winds from 13 - 23 mph and gusts to 30 to play, so the course went from challenging to guess and pray for a wannabe 9 handicapper like myself.
My score and weather aside, I'd say this is a very challenging course- the fairways are wide enough, but some of the greens are not easily viewable and a decently struck shot can oftentimes still not find the surface. Then you find out what gives the Wolf its teeth; surrounding many of the plateau-type greens are severely contoured collection areas which can force you to chip from awkward lies to uphill greens and of course, if you missed a tucked flag you'll be short-sided as well. That's not to say it's not fair, but it will be quite demanding for the average golfer.
I think the Snow Mountain course is the prettiest course, but I'll go back again and face down the Wolf. Do them both if you can- it's a great double play!
Favorite hole- #8, 168 yd par-3. Wow! IMO an even better hole than the island-green 15th.
Nastiest hole- #14, 438 yd par-4. An absolute killer.

Always in GREAT condition!

Fun, relaxing, aesthetically pleasing and some of the best greens in town- if you're looking for fantastic conditioning at a fair price, Tuscany is better than almost all of the other courses in it's price range- and a few that are more expensive, too.
It's a relatively easy course- the 127 slope from the "lilla" (men's) tees should really be down closer to 120 and the 6530 yards from there plays a bit shorter thanks to elevated tees on almost every hole. Wide, gently rolling fairways and not unkind rough make for lots of room and there's only water in play on 2 holes. That being said, #9 is a real test- it's the narrowest fairway on the course, sloping towards the lake on the left with OB right and your "hook-lie" approach is to a green half surrounded by water. The par-3s are just right- one short at 140 yards, one longer at 185 and two in the middle around 165.
The big draw is that the greens are fair, interesting, superbly conditioned and the course is quite eye-pleasing as it is always kept up wonderfully. The bunkers are very playable too, unlike some in the valley that have only a smattering of sand hiding hard clay bottoms you can "drop-kick" your shots from or buried drainage cloth that you can sprain your wrist hitting into. I regularly drive 30 miles from the West side of town to play there even though I have 9 fairly nice courses within 12 minutes of my home on the West side.
An added plus is the grass range to warm up on- nice!
