Eagle Creek Golf Club
Played On 09/18/2016Nice course getting rough around the exes
I played on Sunday afternoon and the course was relatively open. The staff did not tell me that they had just punched the greens, and as you would expect the greens did not putt very well. The course was also a bit soggy due to all the rain in the area. Another sad to see situation was the way the rough is being taken over by weeds, Eagle Creek used to be a meticulously maintained course but the onset of the weeds erases that legacy. Even so it is an interesting layout and worth playing. I'd like to see 18's tee moved up and the hole made into a tough par 4.
Madison Green Country Club
Played On 06/12/2016Challenging but nice course from the tips, rough around the edges
The course has a rustic feel on its perimeter. Sand cart lanes and rough grass and trees. I played the back tees and found it playable but will mention number 10, very tough hole from the tips. The greens were in decent shape except for the perimeter where the person that cut it did not know how to properly raise and dress the cut and the edges where sloppy. Didn't affect play but was ugly. Also a pretty slow round -we were stuck behind a threesome that was SLOW.
Desperado/Diablo at Badlands Golf Club
Played On 01/23/2016Some target golf on rough terrain
Desperado is a target 9 loaded with blind shots. it's fairly short but the discontinuous fairways require one to lay up off the tee. Outlaw was more traditional but still short. Two holes stand out as poor designs. Number .7 on Despardo - blind shot to narrow fairway and then a blind shot to a narrow green with no bail out. Number 9 on outlaw is probably the worst design for I par 5 that I have encountered. Approaching the green is a sliver of a fairway next to a lake from 150 yards out with the ground sloping to a concrete lined pond. Ugly and poor design.

Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 01/17/2016Well Maintained Desert Course
Course conditions were excellent for January even with cold temperatures. Enjoyed the higher altitude (~1500 feet higher than Las Vegas.) subtract at least half a club on approach shots. Layout is decent but stay in play- the holes are surrounded by large gravel fields. Greens are tricky to read lots of subtle micro-breaks. Tough par 3s.
Jekyll Island Golf Club - Oleander Course
Played On 11/16/2015Review of Indian Mound- nice course
The pro sent me to Indian Mound instead of Oleander. I enjoyed the layout- didn't see any Indian Mounds but lots of deer. At 6450 yards from the back tees it played longer than the card as the fairways did not have much roll. The grass appeared to be old school Bermuda. Decent variety of holes and plenty of room to hit off the tee. The course is surrounded by nature and reflects well on the tidewater experience. I enjoyed my late afternoon round and played 18 holes in under 2 hours.
Wolf at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 10/27/2015Fun Layout Aimed at True Golfers
Played the Wolf in October and weather was gorgeous and no wind. The facility is a true treat for the serious golfer. Well marked course, GPS on carts, unlimited range balls, multiple practice ranges, nice layout, good food amenities. I liked that there was plenty of room to drive the ball, not once in the rocks. Greens didn't hold too well. But Overall very nice. my favorite in Vegas.
TPC Las Vegas
Played On 09/16/2015Not bad for desert golf
I played right after they overseeded to the golf course and the conditions were not that good, the greens were very bumpy and the fairways shaggy and believe it or not wet and muddy. Very disappointing for the money charged. My biggest beef though was the faulty sight lines off the tee. Many landing areas are not visible. Makes it tough for a first time visitor. The fairways are surrounded by many rocky areas. Bring a trash club if you tend to spray the ball.
Hi Rob,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We value it and appreciate your comments. Conditions after over seeding are not optimal for anyone, but for the grass to grow and mature, it needs water and can not be cut down right away. And with the adoption of our GPS system, you are provided an overview of each hole to plan your strategy. Not sure why that system wasn't more useful to you. Our rates at the time reflected the fact our course was not 100%. We would be happy to have you back out to our club under normal conditions at a preferred rate to make up for your experience here. Please call into our club at extension 230. Thank you and take care!
Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
Played On 08/16/2015Sporty Course that Suits a Fade
A decent resort course from the number 2 tees, but probably a beast from the 1 tees. (I hear the old Robert von Haage layout boasted a 157 slope rating, so it may be much tougher from the back tees). Water in play on lots of holes and a fade off the tee works on almost all tee shots (no surprise there)(PS I did not lose a ball in the water). The holes along St Andrews bay were pretty - but short. Greens were in good shape and all the turf felt spongy - not much roll. The club house and on course rest rooms are showing their age.
Rob,
Great Picture thank you for sharing that! We are glad you enjoyed yourself and thank you for sharing your advice. We hope to see you again very soon.
Nice Florida style track
The course was a nice Florida style layout. A bit short and tight, it was in excellent condition. The golf rate include range balls adding to the value. Greens putted well and I had a great day, with 9 birdies, I tied my personal best.
English Turn Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/15/2015Superb country club style layout
Loved the golf course. Generous fairways but very small greens. And speaking of the greens, some of the best bermuda greens I have putted on.
Thank you for the comments- I will let Jimmy Shannon our superintendent know!
Texas Rangers Golf Club
Played On 05/05/2014Rock hard fairways and Very Poor greens
I suppose the drought has hurt this course. The fairways are rock hard and the greens have only 50% or less grass and are very bumpy and slow - I used the two putt rule as there was no way to really putt on them without ruining my stroke. The course design though is pretty decent and could be interesttng with better conditions. Let's pray for rain and some fertilizer.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Valley Course
Played On 04/30/2014Solid parkland course
I enjoyed the course. It reminds one of an old style parkland course with lots of trees and short green to next tee distances. It plays long for it's yardage , especially from the back tees. There is plenty of room to think your way around the course. Great practice facility. The only drawback I found was the Poa annua greens were a bit inconsistent but then that is the nature of that grass, especially at the end of the day when there has been lots of steps around the hole.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 04/28/2014Difficult course on the worst land for golf
While the course was in good shape the layout is terrible. The holes snake up and down (and I mean up and down) around a bunch of ravines. Fairways are like slivers of sidewalks, many holes have massive elevation changes, the par 3s are weak, continuous forced carries and long rough. No need to bring a lot a balls as you will find dozens lost by other golfers. The slope rating isn't high enough. Ps the distance between holes would make walking a real chore and totally distorts the rhythm of the round
Golf Club of Houston - Tournament Course
Played On 01/14/2014Amazing course conditions for January
A beautiful golf course in amazingly manicured condition for January - -I guess the high green fees keeps down play while still affording maintenance. The over seeded fairways and greens were nearly immaculate. It is big course and the back tees would be too much for anyone but the biggest hitters. Plenty of room to drive the ball and the greens are large and fair. I love that there are no houses around the course - you feel like you are out in nature. Lots of variety in the holes for fairly flat terrain. A good test.
Windance Country Club
Played On 01/14/2014Nice club- surprised by quality
A very solid course even under winter conditions. Greens were surprisingly quick even though dormant. Number 8 an 10 greens was especially tricky.
MetroWest Golf Club
Played On 01/01/2014Solid Big Course
The recently refurbished greens are still a bit hard and not holding very well (as of January 2014) . Plan for approach shots to run out more than you'd expect. The filled in sand traps have changed the character of the course and make it feel more wide open. Still a decent course and probably a bit easier for the average golfer. The last two holes are strong finishing holes.
The Bridges Golf Club at Hollywood Casino
Played On 12/17/2013Scenic and challenging golf course
It's not an overly long course but each of the holes offers a bit of a challenge. The name is aptly derived from the many bridges on the course. Walking would be tough as some of the holes follow a very circuitous route. The greens were excellent and very fast (the way I like them). The layout has an excellent variety of long and short holes, forced carries and blast away holes, narrow and wide fairways - in general Arnold Palmer did his usual excellent job designing the course. Some of the holes, especially number 8, were beautiful. It is a good as any course on the MS gulf coast and not as pricey as some of the others. Highly recommend it.
Old Hickory Golf Club
Played On 10/6/2013Nice variety of hole, great finishing holes on 9 & 18
Decent layout with nice greens.
Some holes are far apart and very hilly - a tough walk.
Driving range is limited but adequate.
The Club at Venetian Bay
Played On 09/14/2013Excellent links design in FLorida
I like the course - it is a hitters paradise - wide open fairways with some strategic decisions but plenty of room to blast away.
The 5th hole is my favorite - a risk reward par 5.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 9/18/2012Superb layout(s) and conditions. Better value than the famous course just down the road.
Played both Black Horse and Bayonet in one day. The layouts are great and require a wide variety of shots. Beautiful vistas and trees surrounding the course. Greens have been redone recently but are top notch albeit challenging.
RobKempinski,
Thank you for the 4-Star review! We are happy to hear you found our course challenging but nice. We hope to see you out on the course again!
Best regards,
