Nice simulator facility

This is a very nice simulator facility. Plenty of space, comfortable chairs, drinks and snacks, plus a very friendly owner. There is one simulator space with a UNEEKOR Eye X02 launch monitor. They have GSPro as the simulator. The combination is very good, IMO, better than trackman (but not portable). I was by myself and turned off putting. I was able to play 36 holes of golf shots. In an hour. Thats my favorite way to practice.

If your into more complicate measurements, they also have the UNEEKOR views software running. It shows club path, impact position and much more, plus videos of the actual ball strike. Really a nice feature.

If your into more relaxed stuff, the also have a tv. I tuned into the PGA tournament at Harbor Town, and caught a few of their shots between mine.

Really a nice facility for a single or 4-some to play/practice, especially as the hot summer months come.

Pick the right tees

There are a lot of tee choices and on the back nine they are all long. Starter made a point to tell us that “jade” was equivalent to white elsewhere. Ok, so why not just have white tees? But I digress.

Back nine from the combo Tess ruby/jade was about 3500 yards, which is too long for this near 70 year old. However, I played with one +3 handicap who had no problem from the back geeks and another younger man who had no problem from the rubys, so it really was just me.

Course several several doglegs where you need to hit your drive over 1 bunker and short of another, so driving accuracy is important.

There is no rough to speak off. There is grass for rough, but the lies are extremely tight. Greens are nice, some have difficult swales. If they don’t have swales then the putts are straighter than they look.

Lots of water, som of which is hidden. Pay careful attention to the GPS maps and distances.

Interesting back nine

The front nine is flat, while the back nine winds rough the mountains with lots of elevation changes. The course is definitely worth playing if you are staying anywhere close. I paid $84 on golf now and think it’s a bargain compared to other courses his time of year, but it is a long way from chandler/tempe/mesa/scottsdale. I drove 45 minutes and would do it again.

Greens and fairways were in good condition. Rough was dormant Bermuda, as is the norm this time of year.

Shoehorned into the space

I think they didnt really have enough room for the course. Probably worked well with the older balls and clubs, but it’s very tightly packed into the space. The good news is that means that if your wild, your ball will likely end up on another fairway. Since the recently planted trees havent grown in yet, you will probably have a shot from the other fairway.

Green were in mixed shape. Some were good and a few were not. In particular, the day we played, the flag on #2 was surrounded by bare areas that came within about 10 feet of the cup. There was a lot of much better green available in other locations, but they chose to cut the cup in one of the worst areas.

Pace of play was ok, but not great. No restaurant due to construction. I didn’t sample the halfway house.

It’s OK. Nothing exciting. I had fun, but I was the first one out and played in about 90 minutes. Greens were good, some fairways a bit patchy. Nothing memorable except friendly staff.

Overpriced

This is a fine, average course. Conditionss were good, but there is nothing special. Even in the Phoenix winter market, I don’t think it’s worth $200.

The greens are interesting, with any long putt likely to break more than 1 direction. A few holes have hidden hazards, so pay attention to the GPS.

Starter was friendly, and kept things on time. We finished in 4 hrs and 15 minutes, which is their suggested pace. I thought that was much too long, as we waited on nearly every shot.

Overall, like I said a fine average course. I would go back for $100 (in the winter) but not for $200.

Love the course

I love ocotillo. Probably the best winter value in the area. If you are a “sprayer” of the golf ball you may want to go elsewhere. There iw water everywhere. I didn’t count, but probably on 15 or 16 of the 18 holes we played (they have 27 holes). Course was in good condition and pace of play was good. We waited on the group in front of us on every shot of every and still finished in under 4 hours.

Now for the bad - it was cold and windy - 18 MPH wind with gusts up to 25 according to the weather app. It was a difficult day. If it’s reallly windy and you havent played in awhile either: go elsewhere or bring lots of balls. One grandson lost 15 balls and the other about 10. It was a poor choice of course by me for kids that havent played in 6 months…Oh well, it paid for the balls. :)

Dear Corey4652891,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a 4-star review, Ocotillo is a great layout with challenging water obstacles. Add wind to the equation and there is an opportunity for some lost balls. Ultimately we are extremely happy to hear about your love for Ocotillo!

Please help spread the word for us, don't be a stranger and we hope to see you again soon.

Best,

Plain flat, tree lined course

This is a plain flat course with lots of trees. If that’s what you’re looking for then this is your coirse. Fairways, tees and greens were in good condition. There were left and right doglegs and trees and more trees. I like trees, so it was nice. However, if you’re looking for a desert target course, this isn’t it

Course is flat and distances from green to tee are fairly short. Would be a great course to walk.

Off the fairways the rough was, well rough. Some grass, some weeds and some dirt/mid.

I got out early by myself and finished in 1hr 45 min so my personal pace of play was great. Got back to hotel in time to take my wife to breakfast

So, if you’re just looking for a place to play that isn’t memorable but is totally adequate, this is a good place.

Memorable

Probably the most memorable course you will play. Every hole has a unique challenge that you must overcome to score well. Bailout zones are really bailouts, as shots from there are much harder than from “position A”, but you wont incur the penalty strokes from hitting it in the hazards.

Very, very fun

My favorite course anywhere

I have been fortunate to play the stadium course probably 20 times. My first time was in 1996 and i paid $210. I’ve never paid that much since. Ive played over 500 different course, and in every state except Alaska and this is my favorite course, but it is HARD. Im sorry to admit, maybe too hard for me these days. I have gone from the black tees (in 1996) to the blues and now the whites and it just seems hard, where it used to be fun.

Now for the good. On pretty much every hole you are required to hit the correct shot into the right position. What may appear to be safe bailout places are safe, but not easy to recover from (better than water i suppose), Holes 5,6,7 and 9 are memorable and difficult. (I remember hitting 1 iron from the back tees and making birdie on 6 in 1996, now its driver from the whites.). 5 in particular, called double trouble, is aptly named. I think we played there about a dozen times before my friend played without losing a ball in the water (I lost 2 this time).

Every hole on the back is memorable, with 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18 being my favorites.

If your a good player its is a great challenge. If you’re an average player, you will hit some memorable shots. If you’re a hacker, bring lots and lots of golf balls.

Nice course interesting greens

As indicated in the title, the greens are interesting. Most are long but narrow with very small target areas. It’s important to know if the green is in the front, middle or back, because it can both make the distance very greatly and determine where the edges of the green are. Definitely your normal round or oval greens. I couldn’t tell where the flag was on the green from where I hit my drives. As a result I was short,or long several times. Use a rangefinder rather than relying on your GPS, ( which the carts don’t have)

Course was in good condition. Some patchy spots in the fairway, but I noticed them when driving by in the cart, they didn’t seem to be near my landing ares.

I posted a couple of pictures that show a few greens.

It was a lot of fun and a good short game test for the time you inevitably miss greens.

A favorite course in the valley

Love both the courses at Desert springs. They differ from most courses in the valley as there is grass from tee to green. There are no desert waste areas. Still plenty of hazards, several “don’t go there” areas and enough variety to make it very interesting.

Valley course stretch of holes 4-8 are interesting and beautiful. Similarly in the back, 14,16 and 18 are scenic. 18 is one of my favorite holes, requiring 2 good shots for a chance at birdie.

Definitely worth playing.

Had a great time

Course is excellent. Starter AJ is superb. Every course should thrive to have a starter like him. Kept us informed and was actually running ahead of time.

Had breakfast at the restaurant and it was good.

Now for the course

The course has a great mix of holes. Tee to green the course is very interesting. Every hole is different. Have a plan before teeing off on each hole, just banging out there doesn’t work very well. However, the real difficulty is around the greens.

The greens are fairly small (at least in the holes I noticed) so a small miss may leave you in a a bunker or off the green.. The greens are difficult and getting up and down around the greens is difficult.

On the greens the slopes can be severe. It unfair, just very important to distance control. A lengthy putt may have a several foot break. A downhill putt or chip, will roll several feet farther than you think ;don’t ask how I know).

Overall I throughly enjoyed the course and thought that it was a pretty good value for Las Vegas. Shot my worst score in years, and still would love to play again. I just don’t have time this trip.

Nice fairly short course

Had a lot of fun playing this course. Played with a member who gave me lots of tips and had a lot of stories. Played in 3.5 hours which was great. Had finished over seeding and I might have played the first day they let carts in the fairways. As always in the valley, corse was wet when we teed off very early and by the time we got to the back nine everything’s was dry. I would play here again.

Scenic course

I have wanted to play the Cloudcroft golf course for a long time, but it was never convenient. I was glad I got to play yesterday.

The course is only nine holes, but they have two sets of tees and two flags on each green (except for number 1 where they have two greens) and two sets of tees to make it different if you play around twice. Most of the greens are very small so the two different flags are rarely more than 15-20 feet apart, so it’s a bit of a waste to me.

Every hole is different and interesting. The greens have a lot of slope and some holes have a lot of elevation change. 1 is significantly downhill, 9 is significantly up hill and 5 is a blind tee shot over a hill. Be sure to check on 5 and make sure people are gone, and that you choose a line. The ball can roll all the way down the hill into the front bunker, or onto the green.

Overall, I think it is fun and scenic, if you’re in the area it’s worth playing. Do what we did, play nine fairly early, the. Go get in line at Mad Jack’s for BBQ. You wont be disappointed in either.

Played because it’s the highest course in the US

I had already played the course in Death Valley, which is the lowest course in the US (maybe the world, I don’t remember) so I thought I would play the highest course in the US. We played collegiate peaks in buena vista in the morning then drove to Leadville to play Mt Massive. We walked both nines, which is doable, but they are at 8000 ft and 10000 ft elevation respectively so don’t do it if your not in decent shape or accustomed to high altitude (I live in Albuquerque at 5700 feet and it was still a big change).

Course is nice with only one uphill hole, a blind shot par three, and one downhill hole. Lots of trees and great views. Greens were much slower than buena vista, where we had played in the am, and we never got used to that. All the greens are very small, probably the smallest you will ever play, and some are elevated. A nice place to play and get in a scenic nine holes.

I would describe this course as pleasant!

Very pleasant place to play. Nine holes with water on every hole. Some lakes and some creeks. The sound of running water from the creek is very pleasant. Greens are very challenging and deceptively fast.

$40 for nine hole walking seems a little steep to me, but it was a weekend. I think the 18 hole rate was more reasonable. There are two sets of tees, one for the front nine and one for the back, so the holes would play a little differently if you play 18.

Really enjoyed the course. Will play again if I’m in the area.

Very nice

A very nice course with friendly staff. Greens are quite “tricky”. That’s not meant as unfair, but rather as hit it close or your putt may have multiple breaks. Lots of elevation changes on the greens, and like most Florida courses not much elevation change from tee to green.

Played on summer in the afternoon so course wasn’t real busy. Played through one 4 some after waiting a few holes and finish in around 3 hours. Seemed a bit pricey for the summer, but it was a good experience and I would play again.

Interesting layout, poor condition

Course has an interesting layout. It appears to be built on a site without enough land, as several fairways and approach shots are extremely close together. Having said that there are several interesting holes, some elevation change and water hazards.

Greens are very small and were in very poor condition. Most were very bumpy. Grass i the fairways was spotty - clumps of grass comping out of dormancy and holes of grass not yet growing. That made approach shots difficult for me. Around the greens it wasn’t any better. OVerall it seems like a course that want ready for play. Not sure if it was a hard winter, poor maintenance, not enough water, too much water, or something else, but the conditions were very poor. Having said that we had a lot o fun, people on the course were extremely nice and pace of play was reasonable.

Oh, and the cart paths are probably the bumpiest i have ever been on.

I hope they get the condition up to something better, as i think it would be a real fun course given a little better conditioning.

No restrooms on the course, only outhouses - but plenty of trees if that works for you.

I dont currently recommend, but if the conditions improve i probably would recommend it as a fun place to play.

Toooo sloooow

Nice courses, nice people, but….When i made the tee time they didnt tell me there was a tournament going off in front of us. When i got there they told me they had to move my tee time back 1/2 hour because of the tournament, but “they were playing at a good pace”. First Red flag, but i had my grandsons with me and they wanted to play. Finally teed off and played the first two holes at a “reasonable” if not quick pace (30 minutes for 2 par 4s). Then we waited 50 (not a typo) minutes on the 3rd tee while 5 groups that were backed up teed off. After that we only waited for one group on every tee, until we finished 9, when we quit. If i hadn’t bee playing with my grandsons it would have been the worst golfing experience of my life. So, good course, but check to see if there is a tournament going on when you arrange for a tee time.

Photo if of the backup on the 3rd tee.
