Underwhelming

Bear’s Best sounds like it would be an interesting and cool course to play. In reality, it’s a pleasant course in decent shape, but nothing special, unique, or memorable. In fact, I can’t remember a single hole. The most interesting part of the round was checking out the amazing homes that line the course, they are truly spectacular. This is a slightly above average course that’s priced like a premium property. For the money, the Paiute courses are a much better bet.

ABYSMAL!!!

This course, the Desert at Primm, is in the poorest condition of any course I have ever played. It’s a shame because the layout is a good one, but the course itself is unplayable. Both fairways and greens are in indescribably and unacceptably bad shape. It should be closed down, it’s that bad. The Lakes, on the other hand, looked terrific, so I’m not sure what’s going on there, but steer clear of the Desert course for the foreseeable future.

Worth the Trip

The Boulder Creek courses, there are three 9's, are a bit out of the way for most patrons but worth making the drive for. That's primarily due to the first rate condition of the course, fairways and greens, and the top notch practice areas. The layout itself is pretty ordinary, forgettable, and repetitive, with virtually no water holes, but again, the grass is in such fantastic shape that those drawbacks don't matter much, especially when factoring in the very reasonable rates. They must be allocated more water in Boulder City for use on the course because nothing in Vegas or Henderson comes close to these pristine conditions without paying triple digits. Do bring plenty of your own water, they don't provide any, and none of the ice chests on the carts have lids for some unknown reason. Still, all things considered, go play there.

What happened to Tuscany?

When this course was Tuscany it was in sensational shape whenever I played it. Now, as Chimera and under new ownership, it is close to unplayable. Aside from way too many brown and barren areas throughout the course, there is a proliferation of crabgrass and weeds on almost every fairway. This situation didn't suddenly happen, this is a result of ongoing neglect, and totally unacceptable. It's a shame that was once a very good course that was always in tip top shape has been allowed to deteriorate to this extent. Currently, it's not worth playing at any price.
