Skywest Golf Course
Played On 07/10/2016First time at Skywest
First time playing here. The first few holes are fairly narrow and require precision. The back nine opens up a bit, water comes into play o a few holes.
The fairways were in good shape as were the greens. Warning- the greens are very soft and therefore pretty slow.
Bunkers are not maintained and mostly mud.
Los Lagos Golf Course
Played On 04/30/2015I guess "regulars" get good treatment.
Firstly, about the reservation gave away my tee time: Upon checking in the person at the counter informed me they GAVE AWAY MY TEE TIME! I arrived minutes early. They told me the threesome wanted to have a friend join them to become a foursome. They went on to say, we will try to get you out. No free range balls, nothing offered for the inconvenience. I Golf Now!
They did get me out as I joined a twosome about minutes late.
One note: Beware of the local tamed foxes that will steal food and your phone out of your cart. The course should warn you about them, but they don't.
Pace of play: Horrible in the first nine. Two beginners, two experienced, 2 1/2 hours to play nine that should have taken no longer than two considering the length and number of par 3's. Marshalls drove right by without stopping.
Course: Green were fast and firm, fairways had been aerated and the dirt plugs were all over the place on the par 4's and 5's.
Don't waste your money here. 50 buck on Golf Now, for a few more bucks you can play a real course like Cinnabar or Coyote Creek. Leave this course for beginners and the staff favorites.
Spring Valley Golf Course
Played On 09/28/2014Good Course if you are a fan of 5+ hour rounds
The course is in pretty decent shape, fairways were good. Greens are a bit spongy for me, I prefer quicker greens. The Pace of play was horrible, plenty of Marshall sightings, but it does not appear that they said anything to anyone about moving along.
Chardonnay Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2014Wine Country Golf
Very pleasant day playing Chardonnay. About an hour and a half drive from the South Bay. if your coming from the South Bay, play early, the traffic on the Benicia Bridge can be horrible..
The course has 5 sets of tee boxes, we played the one that was 6400 yards. Probably could have moved back one set as we both shot under 80.
The only complaint I have about the course was the tee boxes should have been mowed down a bit. My 2-1/ inch tees were not nearly long enough.
The layout is nice. No houses our roads nearby so the course is quiet. Some very challenging holes, and some holes where ou can score. The course plays 6 each par 3, 4, and 5's.
Nice lunch afterward, very friendly staff.
Pacific Grove Golf Links
Played On 07/06/2014Pacific Grove-Always an enjoyable round
I love everything about PG except the bunkers. They lack sand and what is left has been compacted by overspray from the sprinklers.
resturant under new management and the food was very good.
Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 06/14/2014Not bad for a muni
It's been a couple of years since I played SC. Not a whole lot has changed.
The good: Driving range balls were somewhat new. The pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday.
The bad: They allow smoking at the practice facility. A good portion of the range tee area is covered so the smoke smell was prevalent.
The bunkers are compacted and like hitting off of hard pan.
San Juan Oaks Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2013Worth the drive!
I love San Juan Oaks. ice little 45 minute drive from the San Jose Area, and worth every minute.
Great layout, the front nine is pretty tame in comparison to the back nine with holes named 'Split the Difference" and "Eagles Flight".
Greens roll very true and a bit on the quick side. Fairways are manicured nicely and the rough is generally going to cost you a shot.
Grass driving range and chipping area and a large practice green that this the same consistency of the course greens.
normal weekend rate on Golf Now is 100, I played last Sunday for 69. Worth every dollar.
Merlot/Chardonnay at Poppy Ridge Golf Course
Played On 11/10/2013Beautiful Sunday morning
Only 90 rounds booked for the day. C'mon folks, come play Poppy Ridge! Played at 7:50 and finished at 11:30, great pace! Greens were aerated recently but still rolled true and fast. Great vineyard views and no noise except the occasional small plane overhead.
Coyote Creek Golf Club - The Valley Course
Played On 5/25/2013Nice course, but skip the dining room!
Played early on a Saturday morning, golf shop and starter were very nice. Couse was in fine condition, although it looks like the previous days golfers did not know how to fix ball marks on the greens. Carts could have used seed/sand mixture to fix divots.
All in all, very good golf experience. but don't eat in the dining room.
This was my second trip to the dining room, First was horrible, slow, unfriendly wait staff, mediocre food, and 20 bucks each for lunch? My second trip was quick, we did not get greeted or seated, we chose a table near the bar that had not been cleaned yet, three other tables surrounding us were dirty. Sat there for 10 minutes, without seeing any wait staff and there was only 12 customers in the place. We left without eating and drove up the road to have lunch.
I will certainly golf at CC again, but wont even walk in the restaurant.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 2/15/2013Great Outing
The course, freens, fairways, and greens were in great shape. Cinnabar always provides a rewarding, challanging, and overall great time. The only negative I can mention was the group in front of us were two holes behind and we never spotted a marshall. The saving grace regarding that was that it was in temp was in the mid 70's in February
The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 1/22/2013Great Course
Loved Blackhorse. The layout is a bit more wide open than the sister course Bayonet, but the difficulty of the greens evens it out. The bent grass greens role true and hold approach shots from the fairways.
Walk or ride, about a 6 out of 10in walking difficulty.
Good food, but the waitstaff could use some additionl training in customer service.
