Golf Course Reality Is Dry Creek

This is a real golf course. Tree lined, consistent green speed not too fast and not too slow just consistent, grass in fairways so you can play ball down. He mows the course everyday so it’s ready always!
Classic back nine. Control the shaft and know where the ball is going and you won’t complain about this place. Understand it’s busy now and you won’t complain. Chris the owner has his hands full and finally making some money he deserves it after all the course has been thru. Great job Chris! Thanks for getting the course back into shape. And, walk if you can save the carts for others. Very walkable at the near 7000 yard distance. A few long par 4 that when played correct are as good as they get.

South Is Right Up My Alley

North Course is greater. South course is straighter! Sweet course care but beware. It’s soft and long at times, pure and sweet refined. Best greens in around, and in your town. South and North, best bang for buck and best greens to compare to the best greens. So much better than the rest. The best compare with the best. Great job.

Hand Crafted San Juan Oaks Is San Juan Wonderful

This course ranks among the best I can remember playing. It is fair and tough, wind can get up and down and the greens holes move so be careful.

Recently I have played Industry Hills in LosAngeles, Skylinks in Long Beach, my Nor Cal locals like Yocha De He, Cordevalle, and Saddlecreek. Even Hiddenbrooke.

San Juan Oaks is a combination of all of them.

The commitment to golf is seen here. A must play.

Franklin Good Will It Last?

Good greens and in grass most places, good value afternoons.
Well done fries a must! Front is faster and firmer than back nine; both nines are consistent these days. The aeration was done about four weeks ago so it’s game on.

Heads And Foxtails Above The Rest

Top quality turf grasses put Foxtail North in a very high class. Wonderful greens and green speed, lush fairways and tee boxes, and a great layout make this course 5 stars.

This is how a golf course should look and feel. Awesome place to play a round of golf. Hole 10 gives me goosebumps. Love it. Hole 12 is a classic par 5. Augusta like.

Chardonnay Today and Tomorrow

Always like being out here. What it is today and what is was yesterday still inspires. Clean air, clean feel, this is a must play. The par 3 are all playable yet risky. Par 5 are birdie chances, par four have the most unique greens where course knowledge matters.

Three star course is Five star enjoyment

There stars up to four stars as my rating, but 5 stars for fun. Always enjoy playing here. Never a dull moment and never know when to keep the lid on. Being aggressive won’t pay off here. Some greens are straightforward, others are downright difficult. Love the par 5. Fast and firm, or a little softer, you will get some bang for buck out here. Front nine very conventional with some tricky plays... Back nine has the extra par 3 all worthy golf holes, and Holes 14-18 are awesome.

More Canyon Than Lakes

Been about twenty years since played here. It was ok then. Don’t really remember much and it was just ok.

Today, the course showed character and promise. Greens were fast and dry(expecting rain tomorrow so jets turned off I imagine). Really fun track. Be careful and place ball well or with dry conditions in general as ball runs out there.

Par 5 are all good. Long hitter found it hard to get home in two. Par three 5 of them will offer a bit of a challenge. Par 4 if you can see em attack em, those you can’t see attack with caution.

In all loved it here and will be back. For what it’s worth the par 3 out here are better than Dublin ranch, the par 5 are WAY better, and the par four are ok on both except here two or three are harder for sure. Both are short courses but Canyon Lakes stands out as a real 18 hole course. Dublin Ranch slows it down a little compared to here...feels like a executive course out in Dublin. The Bridges that’s another situation... pretty good there too.

Oh and a bar that looks nice , overlooks the course, will be back for that next time!

Second Time Skywest Air

Sending a message to those that want a fair test of golf: play Skywest. Having played here once twenty years ago this place was a wetter bog. With the rain approaching, it was dry and ball ran out well. Showed it’s character today as wind was down and dry conditions. Fast and firm. When it gets wetter and windy this place can get long. Driver wedge today.

Good job Skywest I really enjoyed course today. Good setup of pins.

So here’s the deal: it does not feel like an easy bay course. It feels like a Sacramento course. Good golf up there. And FYI, alameda south has little on this place. In case you wanted to save some dough that is...

Going To Be Eagles Far From It

This course used to be good for the money. They still charge the money for a great course poorly managed.

If anyone has said the counter golf staff is a bit awkward they might have something there. They must think they don’t need us there.

The course is recently aerated and no warning of that thanks again. Can I have my money back? Still love hitting the ball out there .

This time , This would have been a one star review , but the restaurant saved them today.

Quick service and good food, they are not busy so it’s fair. An amazing view of the course from there as well. Restaurant staff is good.

I always like golfing here so shake it up a bit with friendliness. We will be back regardless because it’s a good track . It’s a bit rough right now though...

Park IS Sharp

One of the best walks on the CA coast, this course gets good this time of year. Blue skies are rare as wind and fog usually persist, just not today. And because of that you can see the wonders of this course.

Greens hold some speed especially if not careful enough on a good many of these holes. Spend some time on 16 to appreciate a links hole, with its ice plant and sand. Some say there is not a four inch cup here. Or hole 12. Hit the green from the 200 tee you win. Or on other greens such as holes four thru seven, all perfect golf holes that meander thru the forest.

Some of the best tree lined fairways you will see. A great collection of holes and a can’t miss right now. Sure there are some rough spots... get over it

All Fair Complex at Haggin Oaks

What a complex. Very impressed. Having played good public links in southern CA, AZ, NV, and here in Northern CA, this place stands out. In fact the selection of product is better than anywhere I have seen public or private.

The golf course is fair and enjoyable. The crowd that gathers is like the heard showing up on Derby Day. What a scene. I must say it’s fair again as for a championship course it’s not penalizing. Sure there are some shot making opportunities but few risks. And long enough when windy to make it interesting. Not too much tree trouble as the course suggests.

Greens, sand, fairways all good. Tee boxes are perfect. All Bermuda surfaces that are awesome. Greens should be really good thru August until they aerate in later September or October.

Everyone was working hard here on the course, in the clubhouse, on the range, and with the kids teaching at practice facility.

Local flavor here unlike any other in Sacramento.

Slick Winchester

The word slick would describe this place right now: Greens, slippery slick, awesome! Around greens, not so slick, if you miss a green the ball will be plugged or in a bad lie, messy in fact and needs attention; hydro seed, grass, or just leave it dry so we can putt up the rough slopes. Too wet.
That's the only negative, Sand is fine, tees are a bit wet but ok, fairways a bit wet but ok.

You cannot fake it out here and lay up and expect to save par. You have to go at pins. One of the funner tests of accuracy in the valley, as being below hole is very important on most holes, crucial on 1 and 18 which are easy driving holes but tough greens! Great set up of holes. Wonderful views, great golf course. Hole 10 is something else.

Would be five stars if not so wet, heat is one thing, not having the grass is another. Too pricey for conditions! You cant water dirt and expect it to grow. Hydro seed is the only fix to those problems around the greens, then water it before it dries overnight! Then charge what you want for your product. At the grocery store, Do you buy the wilted goods? Nope. You'd expect a deal, 30%, 50% off.
I see the rates posted for the weeks ahead and the course is at full retail $115 or so when course is worth a $55 premium. That's what Cinnabar, Poppy, Bayonet/Blackhorse charge. Down the street at Darkhorse its $30.
Too much $ charged here, but a remarkable course.

West Coast Harbourtown

The new and improved Corica Park South Course is in fine form. It’s not too firm and fast and rolls purely. Old Jack Clark is looking good. It’s a bit pricey. They may see less of the public as often as they would like if rates remain high as they are. It’s a plus and minus thing...an easy 5 cents is better than a slow dollar. I guess it’s about how many rounds they want vs. how many they could get?

If you like the surrounding area courses, this is a better course. If you miss some of the closed links style courses like Roddy Ranch(without the elevation) or Stevinson Ranch then this is your place. Has lots of rolling fairways and open space on the front and more eucalyptus trees on the back. Many traps to avoid. Very hazardous.

Plays fair and long from back tees. Holes 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 all long and have huge greens that have lots of space and undulation. Shortest par 5 #15 is reachable with a treacherous green. Other par 5 are long if not three shot holes. Hole 4-11-12-18 are top tier. A short par 4 to drive in hole 8 is very well protected. Hole 18 bunker in middle of fairway is perfect and will get you if you don’t control the shaft.

Some bunkers can be cleared others can’t. Some you can see are further than they appear, others shorter. Wide fairways are very forgiving but the traps are real.

Greens are rolling true for now. And course is in great shape. Head to toe it’s fine right now.

Welcome back Jack Clark!

Best Golf Cart Ever

Enjoy the ride, that cart was so comfortable and worth the ride. I like to walk but the cart was therapeutic. I had no aches all day or the next. I am looking for a reason for fewer next day aches and pain, it must have been that world class cart. What a comfortable seat! Don’t stray far from the fairway or it will make you go in reverse slowly back.

Best and Refreshing Darkhorse

Darkhorse is The BEST course in the state of CA that the public is welcome and that is affordable. Best in the West. That said, it’s a hike to get here. Wish I could play here more often.
Greens are recovering from aeration and need a top coat of sand right now and they will be fine. Sand is firm area red clay dirt so avoid hazards or know how to play em.
Also, food is good. Chef made good sandwiches with 5 Star well done fries. Tasty.
Furthermore, it’s the Most picturesque course you will see in the state besides Monterey courses. The photos that come out of here are amazing.

Resort Style Golf In A Fabulous Setting

Some good holes out here. Tough not to like. But it’s a resort so it’s wide open and easy with smooth greens that don’t bounce. That’s worth 4 stars. Though your mind will go to work on hole 15 and need strength on 13 and 18, most holes are just straight even from the back tees. Been playing here since it opened.
Now, I do realize how and what’s needed to make it as nice as it usually is out here so this is for the ones that want peace out here:
Maintenance crew will be in player, mind and guru way so don’t expect them to stop what they are doing so you can golf. Eh. I ain’t mad at em though! Looks don’t deceive here.
Oh well, Every time we play here they don’t see you. But, there are good times to play here and avoid them like when they leave at 2 or 3. They have all the tools and water other courses don’t have and the heavily armed crew to go with it. Unlike SF courses which ban most pesticides, they have the magic potion here.

The valley from 3 to 7 pm is at its best.

So in reality, it’s an easy course. Well laid out, fabulous valley, smooth surfaces which is the norm here. Very nice.

We won’t stop making the trip here, though for its 5?star reviews it’s more 4 star for golf and 5?star for playing surfaces. Darkhorse in Auburn is a better course. Yep.

New hotel the property is building looks great. Should be good for business.

Links Golf Indeed Windy Fun

Been playing here since it opened, only twice has the course looked better. First, when it was new. Second, around one or two years ago and the last time I played here...the greens were very fast, while today they were fast and true. Fast and true is a good golf course.

Back then they offered a great deal with lunch and golf, since it’s no longer being offered we don’t come out much. That will change if the course conditions are as good as they were yesterday, and if they bring that lunch deal back!

Then it makes sense to stop at the turn and grab the bite and drink and if another group gets on the tenth tee it’s theirs. That’s most courses policy? Won’t happen here as no one seems to know etiquette or course rules.
Problem is groups are not ready to hit on the tenth tee and are not even getting food or drink. Fourseomes think they own the place. They need to know course etiquette and let faster groups play through especially at the turn and when they are slow there too. It’s a short par three that takes experienced players a few minutes . You cannot hold up groups all day on the front for two hours and expect to take a ten minute break on the tenth. Bad management here as the turn is right in front. Don’t seem surprised if someone complains. Groups need to stay on the group in front of them as on time means little here at this short turn.

All in all, It’s a Solid track with real golf from the back tees links style. Calm mornings usually and windy afternoons usually if you want the practice it’s good for that as on course it’s rolling terrain and mostly flat and very well laid out right in front of you. You will use all of your clubs.

Fast paced or slow this place is worth it. Just adding two cents.

Ripe for Play

Franklin Canyon is ripe for play right now. Quick greens that are true when above hole, tricky sideways. 1, 2, 13, and 17 are quick right now.
Had the French Fries, ask for well done you will not be disappointed . Decent bar.
Back to the course, back nine from back tees will put some trees in your face. Work ball left right and high and low, all the shots. Fun stuff.
