Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 08/11/2019Is there a Management issue here?
8/11/2019 - All sand traps are being redone and are considered grounds under repair. Most of tee boxes and large sections of fairways and areas around the greens have been resodded and are not recovering well. But from booking to check-in to the send off from the starter, not a mention of the poor conditions (other troon courses have called me after a booking when greens were punched to let me know the course is not up to the typical quality standards-not so here)
Furthermore pace of play was the worst I've ever experienced, not because of slow play but rather management overloaded the course by stuffing 25 foursomes in front of our 6 AM group. Our round was 5 1/2 hours with 1 1/12 of that just in that last 3 holes! Management should have never sold these morning tee times if they were going to do this. While this could have been an Isolated miscalculation, the Members we were playing with indicated it has become more common lately.
I would recommend passing on this course until you see some turnaround in these reviews. I know I'll be taking my money elsewhere for now.

I love this course! Staff is friendly and this is a true upscale Troon course and well worth the drive out. Then Greens are healing nicely from the rough transition to summertime only found 2 left that are still a little bumpy.

Course is in good shape. Green's still a bit bumpy and a touch slow but a good value
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 12/24/2018Just like a desert course except replace the desert with water...
Played this course many times and it is always fun. fairly short but the water adds the challenge ...and can claim many an errant shot.
Played Blue/White Christmas eve day and found the course in decent shape - White was near perfect but Blue had several greens that were beat up (Fix your divots people!)
One last comment is that I thought they just redid the irrigation for the course but I did seem over-watered in several areas
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 09/22/2018Good value
Fun track with some variety. Greens tend to be a bit bumpy and a touch slow but other than tat conditions tend to be fairly good here. They are starting their over seeding now 9/22 so you’ll need to look elsewhere for a while
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
Played On 09/15/2018Great resort track
Wide forgiving fairways uncluttered by homes or structures. I've always found this course in good shape. Today was no exception. Maybe a bit overwateed is some areas but the greens werenrolling true if a bit on the slow side.

Grea rates this time of year I was disappointed to find that the gold coruse was being scalped so the only thing green on that course is the tee boxes and geeens. They could at least update the booking site to let you know. Other than that, I had a good time.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 05/18/2018Always a great track
A beautiful course void of any houses or structure to distract. Fairways were cut short this time out and the greens were running slow and were bumpier than I’ve seen them , still a good value as we head into summer rates
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2017A real gem
While most people would think of Troon North, Grayhawk, and The Boulders when golfing in this area I say Rancho Manana is a real gem in the midst of all these Great Courses. The layout is just as interesting and beautiful as those other courses named with lots of elevation changes and quite a challenge with blind shots everywhere. While the course is very short, 6000 yards from the blue tees, its layout and small greens make it a challenge for most golfers.
With the exception of some Shaggy greens that were causing the ball to roll a little slow but true the course was in fabulous shape.
Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2017Every hole is a post card
First time in Florida, and while this is not your typical Florida course, it sure set the bar for the rest of my weekend.
Secluded country location really was nice - there are no houses or buildings in site other than the club house to distract from the beauty of this course. Played the 'must play' Pine Barrens and was not disappointed, challenging and well kept for a that gets this much traffic. Greens were rolling 9-10. With only a few holes where some repair was going on but it did not affect play much.
Super value!
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 10/06/2017Water, Water Everywhere
Love this track. New ownership is doing plenty of renovations - Noticed several Traps removed to make the fairways a little more inviting. Course played well despite the scars from irrigation upgrades. Greens were rolling true if a tad slow.
One thing I hope they fix as part of the renovations is leveling out their tee boxes. They're not too bad but it's one of my biggest pet peeves when I have to search for a flat spot on a tee.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2017Great track
Really love this course, starts out "meh' then at 7 really becomes a breath taking track. Tons of elevation change, don't even think of walking this course.
Course was in decent shape for the end of summer, a little burnt here and there but nothing to impact play. Greens were a touch thin and sandy but rolling fine.
Coming from the east valley we were paired up with a twosome from the far end of the west valley...we both thought it was well worth the drive.
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 08/27/2017Great value course
I consider this my home course a good track for the money. Current conditions (8/24) tee box and fairways good- greens were extremely shaggy probably rolling 4-5 which is not normal for the course but good conditions are tuff anywhere in Phoenix this time of year.
Power Ranch Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2017Good conditions for this time of year
Almost every local course I've played recently (August 2017)has been in 'summer recovery'.Burnt out fairways or punched greens. Meanwhile, Trilogy was in good shape from tee to green.
Would like to play here more often but they are typically about $20 more than their peers, not worth it when the other courses are in good shape.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 07/17/2015Getting a little beat up
Always loved this course, especially the back nine. On this particular outing (July17 2015) I found the course a bit beat up. Quite a few bare patches in several of the fairways - they should have roped these off or envoked a 90 degree rule, it was clear from all the tire marks these bear spots weren't going to recover anytime soon. Greens were still a bit sandy from what looked lie recent aeration (I would have appreciated knowing this before coming out - most other course post this on their site or put an aeration icon on their Golfnow booking page.
Still one of the best values in the East Valley
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 12/29/2014One of the most beautiful courses in the valley
Really love this course, beautiful vistas and a fun layout with some very challenging greens that will demand your attention round after round. While pace of play is STRICKLY enforced, I found rounds still taking between 4.5 to 5 hours.
