Fun course

Hillcrest has a fun layout with some risk reward tee shots over water, and an elevated tee shot to a par 3 that plays much more difficult than it looks.

It's in decent condition for the summer in Phoenix. They put a lot of water on it every night so early morning it can be a little wet with some muddy areas where water pools.

Pace of play here is usually very good, and after the early tee times the course is wide open. Overall a nice track if you want to get a quick 18 in.

Nice course

AZ Traditions is a nice course. Conditions were typical for this course. The fairways were in nice condition and the greens look great, although they were playing extremely slow and somewhat firm. The rate of play on this day was a lot slower than what I typically experience on this course. It is a fairly easy layout with a couple of challenging holes, but it took 5 hours and 20 minutes to play a round on this day. Essentially one group holding everything up, and while the marshal was out and talked to the group, it really had no affect on their pace of play.

Nice conditions, simple layout

This course is usually in good shape. The greens are on the slow side, but receptive. There is not a lot of trouble, and the couse is not too long. It is a nice course to work on your game, or have a nice relaxing round.

Great executive style course

I played early on a Saturday morning. The greens were very receptive and rolled true. The fairways were nice on the par 4's. Pace of play was extremely quick for an executive course. We were the 4th group off and the only waiting we ever had was on the driveable par 4's.

Challenging course

The layout of Kokopelli is fun and challenging. The fairways are not as wide as a "resort" course so you can be penalized for errant tee shots. Some greens are protected by bunkers and false fronts, but missing the greens does not become ridiculously difficult to recover. Overall the fairways were nice and playable, and the greens were very receptive. The bunkers however could use some work, but they do play like most other courses in Phoenix.

Great course for the price

For the price, this course is a great deal. The fairways were nice and green, especially for summer conditions. The greens were soft and receptive, although they were pretty slow. The course is relatively short, and with the greens playing slow, that makes the course' difficulty fairly easy. Although the greens do have a lot of undulation, and if they sped them up a little, the difficulty of the greens would offset the course's lack of length.

Overall, reviewing AZ Traditions as a budget friendly course, it is definitely is worth 4 stars. And AZ Traditions is definitely worth a shot for anyone who wants to get in an inexpensive round, with solid course conditions.

Beautiful course

I played Granite Falls South on 5/25/2013. For a course in transition to the summer grass, the course was in pretty good condition. And the greens were very receptive and well maintained.

The course itself has some nice water features, and on most holes the fairways are wide and inviting. The greens were receptive and reading the greens was made easier because you can actually read the grain on most of the greens. And at $39 on Golfnow it was an excellent value.

A little dissapointing...

I played this course one week before their scheduled overseeding. The Greens were in good shape, but the rest of the course was lacking. For an executive course, the areas around the greens were very inconsistant, and the sand traps were attrocious, hard and borderline unplayable. I have played this course in the past(it had been about a year since the last time) and usually this course was in much better condition.

I understand that before overseeding a course can go through some phases where a course may not be pristine, but it is very unfortunate that Ahwatukee Lakes did not at least put a course condition alert on the available tee times.

Back nine is amazing !

Played this course in the middle of September. I think the course was getting ready for overseeding because everything but the rough was cut pretty close. For late summer I would say it is above average condition. The fairways were average, and the greens where a little dry and fast, but still very playable.

The story for this course though, is the back nine. The elevation changes and the layout provide a nice challenge and a nice change of scenery. I am looking forward to trying this course during the prime season.
