The Bellaire Centennial Golf Course
Played On 10/25/2022Much improved, hard to believe it is the same course.
I played this course when it was called The Farm and it was terrible. I saw this course on Golf Now and for the price ($20) thought I would give it a chance. The fairways were well mowed, the greens rolled true (with an occasional worm mound, but a few taps took care of that), so much so that I was sinking 6-10 foot putts on a regular basis. The front 9 has a nice mix of elevation and wooded areas, however, the back nine is pretty much parallel fairways with few trees in between. This is not a bad thing if you are a beginning golfer and if you are experienced you can pretty much grip and rip. The bar and pro shop are small, but there is a nice deck to expand the seating. I will be placing this course again soom.
Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 03/20/2022Great start to vacation
First course of the vacation, played Brigantine and Galleon. I was hoping for something with a little less water but in the end this course wasn't as intimidating as I thought it might be. Was teamed up with Mike and Jeff who have played the course several times and were helpful in shot placement. Quite a few gators on the course including a huge one about midway through the round. Additionally, the group in front of us left a ball just a few feet from a gator near the pond on Galleon's second hole. I had to laugh, would have done the same. Greens were in good shape, ran true but were a little slow compared to what I am use to. Fairways starting to green nicely. Actually, the fairways were the best of the three courses I've played so far. Tee boxes were just OK. Sand traps were a little hard, but I have found this to be the case on all of the courses I've played this week. I was lucky enough to catch this course just before the rates went up, but for what I paid this was an excellent course. Shot placement is important on this course, if not it is easy to lose a ball on most of the water lined fairways.
Lost Plantation Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2022Great course for the money
This course is a bit out of the way from Hilton Head Island where I was staying but the price was right and it looked to be a good basic course. I was lucky enough to team up with Larry, a member who lives on the course, He helped me with shot placement, etc. There are a few dogleg holes and it was nice to have a strategy even though none of them are difficult. Fairways are wide, most shots straight forward. Some water, but nothing difficult. Fairways were OK, just starting to turn green. The greens were somewhat brown but faster than the two courses I played earlier that week. The only problem with them was that they were dry and didn't hold the ball well when chipping or pitching . The pro shop had little to offer other than balls and tees but the staff was quite friendly. The restaurant recently re-opened and has a limited menu but once again the staff was friendly and the beer cold. Over all I will definitely play this course again when I am in the area. Thanks again to Larry for an enjoyable round of golf.
Farmstead Golf Links
Played On 03/29/2017Great Greens
After playing a couple of local courses I decided to try out this course. WOW, we these greens outstanding compared to the other courses I played. Even the dormant grass seems to be greened up more. I did struggle with the length on a couple of wholes, but over all it was great. It was also fun that the course plays on both sides of the N. Carolina/ S. Carolina border. I will play this course again.
Azalea Sands Golf Course
Played On 03/28/2017Not as bad as I expected
I was looking for another day of golfing when I found this course on Golf Now for a reasonable amount. The reviews claimed the greens were terrible but I found them to be smooth and true rolling over all. The fairways were green and the pace excellent (at 1:20). I ran into another single player (Bob) who had a snowbird membership and he helped me around the course with hints on positioning, etc. I wouldn't pay much more than $27 to play this but over all it wasn't as bad as other reviews might have you believe.
Beachwood Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2017Great basic course
Great basic course, wide enough to be friendly to new golfers BUT we spent 3 hours playing the front nine because it was over booked. Disappointing for 1:20 in the afternoon. Edges of fairways still rather dormant, but that is pretty common for this time of year. Great place to warm up for the rest of the week.
Crown Park Golf Course
Played On 04/06/2016Hard Greens
Golf Now had a great (read cheap) deal on Crown Park so I took a chance. The fairways were wide and green but the greens were rock hard. I landed several from 150 yards out or so and could not find the divot where is landed. It also caused me to lose a few balls as they tended to roll over the edge and into the water. We also got behind two other groups and ended up taking over five hours for 18 holes. OK for the price but the pace made for a long day. Luckily I was paired with a couple from Canada, John and Marie. They were excellent companions and we all enjoyed the afternoon together, that took the edge off the long waits. Without them I probably would have left before finishing the round.
Pineland Country Club
Played On 04/05/2016Even better than before
I played this course two years ago because it was a low price on Golf Now and I assumed it was near Myrtle Beach where I was vacationing. I discovered it was actually about 45 minutes away, but the price made it worth the drive. THe course was brown and dry except for the fairways and greens. This year, what a difference! The whole course was green, the fairways in good shape, and the greens were soft, smooth, and true. No, this is not a top course, but I played another economy course yesterday and compared to that one Pineland was great. I still have issues with pine cones hiding my ball, and some of the fringe is a little hard, but that is part of the charm of the course. George at the pro shop made me an egg sandwich before I headed out and after the round I purchased several items in the pro shop at a great price. I enjoyed the course so well I'm headed back Friday.
Trying to find information on the age limit for Senior Discounts and a phone number for information.
Looking forward to playing at this course in the near future.
Pineland Country Club
Played On 03/31/2014Early season golf
Last day of March and the fairways were still fully brown. The greens we OK but very slow. Price on Golf Now was so inexpensive it was worth the 45 min. drive fro Myrtle Beach. Over all this would be a great beginners course, other than a few water hazzards and pine cones that seem to hide wayward golf balls it is pretty wide open.
We look forward to seeing you again in the near future!
