San Tan Highlands
Played On 11/13/2019Still a pretty good deal...
We were told that the course will no longer have drinking water on any of the tees, has eliminated the ball washers and that beverage cart service is discontinued until further notice. All this aside, the course responded well to overseeding and was in pretty good shape. Sand traps still need attention but some progress has been made since playing about a month ago.
Las Colinas Golf Club
Played On 10/30/2019Worth the drive
The course was recently reopened after over seeding so carts were limited to cart paths and the rough. In spite of this, we were able to complete our round in well under four hours. The fairways were pristine with the new winter grass, the greens receptive and a little slow and the rough short and dormant, as expected. we've already booked out next round !
We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back at Las Colinas Golf Club!
Four Peaks Course at Sunland Springs Village
Played On 10/23/2019A nice little course
We played San Tan/Four Peaks duo which were both in good shape after the over seeding. Finished the round in about 3 1/2 hours even with the cart path only restriction. Improvements to the clubhouse were noticed and the maintenance folks were active but cordial. Greens held very well with the additional watering !
Apache Wells Country Club
Played On 09/25/2019Great end-of-summer value
We've played the course many times and have never been disappointed. The $23 on-line rate including a meal voucher is hard to pass up ! Conditions are above average compared to other courses at this (overseeding) time of year.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2019Best value in the East Valley
The course has made a terrific recovery under the guidance of the new owners. The fairways are green and weed- free, the bunkers have sand in them, the greens are well maintained and receptive and all dead or dying trees and other landscaping have been removed and/or replaced. Even the clubhouse and restaurant have been given a long overdue face-lift. Our foursome completed our 18-hole round in 3 1/2 hours and enjoyed an overcast and relatively cool morning in Gold Canyon. We'll be back next week !
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2019Getting better
Played 18 holes as a twosome in three hours flat which is almost a necessity in August in Arizona ! Noticeably improved bunkers and irrigation since the last time I played there. I was struck by the amount of maintenance and/or other improvements which were being done so kudos to the management/owners for putting some of the greens fees to good work ! I'm sure this will come back "in spades" to folks like me who appreciate the attention to details.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 08/07/2019Hot and S-L-O-W
In general, the course was in pretty good condition for this time of year which is difficult for all courses in the desert. The price was fair for the condition but the experience was negatively influenced by the pace of play which was exclusively controlled by a threesome in front of who should have probably stayed on the range. With a reduced staff, there was no ranger to correct the situation which made standing on the tee or in the fairway watching the MULTIPLE practice swings and the long searches for lost balls in the August heat even more unbearable.
Hi RJ, thanks for leaving us a review. We're sorry to hear pace of play wasn't up to our usual standards. We hope you'll come see us again soon!
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2019Needs some TLC
As a regular player (once/week) the changes I've seen in the last couple months are generally not positive. Restrooms in the clubhouse and on-course are dirty and need attention, in spite of attempts at rodent control the ground squirrels are still winning and the course seems to need a new/better groundskeeper as current irrigation schemes result not only in large puddles and dead spots on the same hole but also the greens are showing a lot of stress from fungus and slow/no germination of the "regular" summer grasses.
The Links Golf Club At Queen Creek
Played On 01/10/2019Well maintained and fun !
The reasonable rates and excellent condition means this course gets a lot of play. Our threesome got off a little early (for an 8:58 AM tee time) and finished (behind two foursomes) in three hours. The fairways provided some roll and the greens were quick but receptive. Rumors prevail of an imminent course closing (to be replaced with houses) which I hope are wrong since it's become a local favorite.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 10/31/2018Looks great after over seeding
Our "cert paths only" round was completed in under 4 hours which was appreciated.
The fairways were generally nicely covered with new grass with only a few areas of standing water.
The greens held well and had a speed and smoothness expected of a course re-opened three weeks after over seed.
Right now in the valley it's a great deal for the money !
The Links Golf Club At Queen Creek
Played On 10/24/2018Almost playable
The course recently reopened after over-seeding and us trying to increase playability through obvious and visible efforts of the grounds crew. The rough was long and soggy, the fairways striated with emerging ryegrass meaning little to no roll and the greens quite slow and bumpy. This was all to be expected in anticipation of some wonderful conditions returning in another week or two.
Apache Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2018East valley favorite
The early morning greens fees included a meal voucher which is hard to beat ! The fairways had some bare spots typical of desert courses this time of year. The greens were recently aerated but were receptive and playable.
Apache Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2017Late season favorite
The course provided no surprises and we got what we paid for. Fairways were firm with generous amount of dormant grass areas typical for October golf in the Valley. The greens were recently aerated making them playable but somewhat consistent. In the "in between (normal and over-seed) season, "The Creek" provides locals and visitors an affordable golfing experience.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 09/22/2017A little remote but worth the drive
Quintero is a Troon managed course which definitely lives up to expectations. Rees Jones did an excellent job of carving out a great course from the high Sonoran desert. A few tight holes which favor the straight hitters but, generally very generous landing areas. A good approach to the undulating bent-grass greens will hold and then provide a smooth roll to the cup for that birdie putt !
Crooked Tree Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2016Flat and forgiving
I picked Crooked Tree based on the recommendation of a friend who played there earlier this year. I had never heard of it before even though I have played many other Tucson courses. Pros: flat and forgiving, favors the straight hitter, greens are consistent and fairly true, green fees are reasonable. Cons: most par fours seem to be roughly the same yardage, cart paths are only partially paved and in need of repair, the bunkers are some of the worst I've ever seen. Trevino did a pretty good job with what he had to work with.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 03/01/2016Remote but very palyable
This was my first round on the course in several years as it really going downhill not that long ago. Noticeable improvements everywhere ! The fairways have benefited from a (probably) functional irrigation system. The greens were a little inconsistent but still rewarded a good roll. The back nine has many more houses now which somewhat detracts from the open space look of the past.
Palm at Angel Park Golf Club
Played On 10/28/2015Should be on your "play list" !
I first experienced the Angel Park facility about fifteen years ago. I finally got a chance to return and it's every bit as good as I remember. Pace of play was slow (~5 hours) but we were paired with a couple "locals" which made the time pass a little easier. Overseeding went well as the fairways were emerald green and the greens groomed and fast.
Championship at Viewpoint Golf Resort
Played On 10/11/2015Overseed was sucessful
The course is generally very playable and fairly well rangered. With overseeding just completed, it was cart paths only and 3" rough. The round was further challenged by a golfer in front who had no business on the course. We watched him hit five (5) balls off the first tee and he continued this behavior for the rest of the round. This wasn't golf but simply a battle of endurance...
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2015A sign of the times ?
The course remains a staple to East Valley golfers hailing back to its "Camelot" days. The John Jacob's golf training held at Painted Mountain seems to ensure that the course always remains playable. August is a "difficult" month for most Arizona courses with many cutting back on staff and amenities; this was readily apparent during our 4 1/2 round. No rangers; saw the beverage cart once.
The Links Golf Club At Queen Creek
Played On 03/05/2015Nice but s---l---o---w...
A good track to work on your short game but waiting one every hole and every shot makes one lose interest.
Thanks for leaving us a review, RJF. We hope you'll come see us again soon!
