Canyon Mesa Country Club
Played On 11/15/2016Great little executive course
Beautiful layout and super fast greens. This course is a real beauty for scenery and challenging greens. Everything was well manicured and attention is paid to the details. Would play again in a heartbeat!
Blue Knob Golf Club
Played On 05/14/2016Save your money and time!
Have played this course in the past when maintenance was good. Lately I am sorry to report thr course is in terrible shape with no improvement in sight. The tee boxes were not mown and required a 3 1/2 inch tee just to get the ball level with the grass. The fairways were overgrown and obviously not mowed but the real problem is the greens. There was dead spots all over and the remaing grass on the greens was high enough to prevent any kind of roll on the ball. This was magnified by all the tree debris present on the greens. The bunkers were washed out with big rain ruts, tree limbs, and large tufts of weeds. The gravel cart paths were equally rutted and covered with leaves and fallen limbs.
Played 6 holes and returned to the golf office to inquire about refund. The employee told me that they don't offer refunds or rainchecks and that I should have called ahead to inquire about the conditions before I played. Almost tried to make me feel that I was unreasonable in my expectations.
Bedford Elks Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2016Great Value on the Way to Bedford Springs
Booked this course for $10 each for my wife and I and did not have high expectations but was greeted warmly by the staff. The course was in excellent condition despite being early in the PA spring. The course has a great layout that winds down the valley and along a small river. Greens were not super fast but had a very nice roll that gave a good opportunity to make a putt when needed to make par. I would highly recommend this course for someone on a budget that does not feel like dropping $120 on a round at Bedford Springs which is less than one mile down the road.
Cameron Hills Golf Links
Played On 04/18/2015Course in disrepair except for area around greens
I was a little disappointed in the overall upkeep on this course with the exception of the areas around the greens. Fairways were 90% dead Bermuda and 10% new growth that was not mowed. Tee boxes not well manicured and grass in rough was variable. I played other courses in the area the same week and those courses were lush and green. Cart paths ranged from broken pavement to dirt complete with water filled potholes. Carts are old and obviously well worn. The staff however was extremely helpful. The starter spent about ten minutes with us explaining the yardage book and some unique holes on the course and how best to play them. The design of the course was awesome and would have been a blast to play had the turf conditions been better. Greens, approaches, and rough surrounding the greens very well manicured.
The Rockland Farm Course at Shenandoah Valley
Played On 04/17/2015Great day on the links despite the staff lecture
I would like to highlight the positives first and then a rant! The course was in excellent shape for this early in the year. The greens were running pretty quickly and it was obvious that some work had been put into the course to have it play this nicely. Fairways were lush but well manicured and every aspect of the course was top notch. I would play here again the next time we are passing through. Overall a 4 1/2 to 5 star course.
Now for my rant. My wife and I were celebrating our 15th anniversary by taking an impromptu road trip, playing golf on our way south from PA. When the weather for the day looked promising, I booked an extremely discounted fee ($13 each with cart) on lastminutegolfer.com. We arrived about an hour and 15 mins.early, and when we checked in with the staff in the office, the starter immediately started giving us a hard time about being early and not to expect any special treatment since we only paid $13. He was borderline irate that we would ask to get out earlier than our tee time (despite the fact there were only 7 cars in the parking lot and the starter sheet laying on the desk clearly showed nobody with a tee time before ours). I weathered the verbal storm for a few minutes hearing how the golf course would only get a few dollars for my round (I still don't understand how this was any of his concern unless he is working on commission) and how unfair it is that some patrons pay $45 for the same course (again, this is something he needs to take up with the people responsible for the rates listed on the website). I finally just turned and began to walk away figuring my putting could use a quality 75 min session on the practice green when the other person in the office gave us a key to a cart and told us to go ahead and start play when we were ready. The starter then got real helpful informing us about a $9 replay rate on the North course and giving us a fairly detailed overview of the best way to play the south course????? We played the entire round having never seen another golfer for the whole day!
