Short Track/Good Value

The Point has a short layout (less than 6400 yards from the tips. The fairways are spectacular. My only complaint is the number of unrepaired ball marks on the greens. C'mon boys fix your ball marks. That said, the greens were pretty quick and true. The bunkers around the green were consistent. Back to the layout - there was not a lot of imagination in the development of the course. There are more interesting layouts nearby. The Point remains a good value for you OBX vacation dollars.

Bowie Golf Club - A pleasnt surprise

I had not played Bowie GC for many, many years. Before I go any further, the value vs. golf experience was very good. On a beautiful Thanksgiving Day, the course was almost empty. So, the pace of play was at our leisure. The fairways were in good shape for November. The greens were on the slow side, but in fair shape as well. The bunkers were unkempt or shabby condition, perhaps due to the likelihood of limited play on Thanksgiving morning. With all that said, I will probably try to play 9 holes from time to time on my way home from work. Can't think of a better way to get out of "honey-do" chores. If you have a limited budget or time, Bowie is a good bet.

Nags Head - Short but still challenging

I've played Nags Head about a dozen times over the years and have found the course condition to be very consistent - very good to superior. Many of the holes have creeks or other hazard that prevents you from pulling the driver out of your bag. Therefore, the posted length of the hole is deceiving. I have found the wind is the course's most troubliing defense against posting lower scores. The greens run true, but be sure to view every putt from both sides of the hole or be prepared to be fooled.

Compass Point South Course - Good Value

I had planned to play the South/West course. However, because temps were in the mid to high 90"s, I trimmed an 18 hole round in half. The South course was in very good shape, tee boxes, fairways and greens. There are a few wet spots in fairways and a few ground under repair areas as well, but I attribute this to the extremely wet summer (2015). It has rained almost every day since mid-June. The greens were extremely slow. This was due to the extreme humidity and probably a deliberate effort to protect the greens for high summer heat . We played on a Sunday and should note that all but one of the flags were hugging the edge of the greens, protected by bunkers or hanging on the back of the green with little or no margin of error. These pin placements, sometimes as little as 3 or 4 paces from the edge, harmed significantly the pace of play considering weekend golfers would dominate the mix of players on a Sunday. I would suggest that pins be placed with the average golfer in mind on weekends.

Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and you are right on many points. I will have to speak to the team about pin placements which seem they were setup for a Sunday at the U.S. Open! Thank you again and we hope to see you back on the links again soon. Regards, Mike

Good Course ... Pin Placements could be more fair

Pleasant Valley is a very course and I was pleased tht the course was as I remembered. Because of heavy rain the couple of days before we played, carts were restricted to the cart paths ... always a good move. Most greens have multiple levels with sharp elevation differences between levels. While the course was in terrific condition for the last day in November, the pin placements were for the most part extremely unfair on a windy weekend day. At least six pins were placed on the edge of the ridge between two levels of the green. A few of the greens were so fast that a missed two foot putt could go 10 feet past the hole. Given the speed of the greens (not complaining about the speed) the pins should have been more fairly placed so that there was at least a better side of the green to aim. Still, overall it is a very enjoyable track

Great track with very good variety of holes

Eisenhower is a muni course that is a great track. Summer of 2014 has been mild and the course has benefited greatly. The greens are in good shape, although very slow in my opinion. The fairways on the back nine were in terrific shape. Can't speak to the front nine as I just had time to squeeze in 9 holes. Sand traps could use a little more sand, but were raked and in uniform condition. Staff is very accommodating and got me out quickly . The value is great for the $21 twilight fee and finished in just over two hours. Could have been quicker, but let a twosome in a cart play through on the par 3 13th hole. Note: the back nine has three par 3's, 4's and 5's.

Renditions Remains a Good Value

I have played Renditions a half dozen times over the last 10 years. It is always very fun. Many of the greens are tricky and you would have to play it fairly often to know when you can challenge pins positions and when you should be happy with hitting the center of the green, two putt for par, and move on to the next hole. The putting surface was in terrific shape, putts rolled consistently, the break was fairly easy to read. That said, golfers need to fix their ball marks. Favorite part of the course is Amen Corner and the Island Green. Everyone should play this course at least once.

Caolina Club remains a very good track

I play The Carolina Club once a year while on vacation in OBX. This course is one of my favorites. The staff is super friendly. The fairways and greens were in great condition. The only short fall is the driving range which limits you to shots of 180 yards or less. That said, there are two short game areas and a very large putting green. The shack after the 6th and 13th holes was closed. Usually it is stocked with sandwiches, hot dogs, etc, but there was a cart girl making the rounds.

What I like most about this course is the variety of holes, from wide open pull out your driver to narrow shorter holes to hole number 9 which is a par 5 "pure target" golf type hole. If you are vacationing in OBX it is a must-play course.

Good Value - Very Good Course

White Eagle is a very good course. The greens (May 2014) were in excellent shape. The grass in the fairways was cut a little higher than I am used to in the mid-Atlantic region. The winter of 2014 was long and cold. As a result, White Eagle experienced some "freezer burn" on some areas in the fairways. It was clear that the grounds staff was working to repair these areas and by mid-summer, the fairways will likely be in fantastic shape. I highly recommend White Eagle to any golfer who wants a good value for their money.

Interesting Track, Poor Conditions

I played this course about 8 years ago when the conditions were quite good. The quality of the course has fallen considerably since. I would have rated this course "poor", but feel the layout warrants some consideration. Sections of many of the greens are in in need of some serious TLC. The fairways are adequate in terms of landing area, but are generally pretty beat up. The tee boxes need a lot of work. I paid $18 to play basically 17 holes. Hole number 14 has been abandoned. Only the green is maintained (sort of). The fairway is rocky. The score card doesn't even show yardages for any of the tees. It is just blank.

Nice Track - But Greens Need Some Serious Work

Palmetto Pines CC is a well laid out track. I used a 3 wood and PW on #1, but there is plenty of room to pull out your driver on most holes. The fairways are in good to very good shape. However, the greens are rock hard and thread bare. There were a few places where I thought that there should have been a white outline for unplayable sections on a few greens. I had a couple of well played PW's bounce off the back of the green.

The course is very walkable with most tees very close to the preceding green. The club house is very nice and the free sandwich after the round was worth purchasing.

Overall, I would not recommend this course until there are reviews that indicate PPCC has paid more attention to their greens. After all,the money we pay is call "greens fees".

Bottom line is that PPCC is a nice track, but the greens need a lot of work.

Great track that needs some attention

It has been years since I played Timber at Troy. So, I was looking forward to getting back there. The track itself is very interesting - although there are several blind tee shots in which directional flags would speed up play.

Their practice facilities are pretty good, small chipping green, both natural grass and artificial mats on the driving range. Putting green is in good condition.

Most of the fairways were in good to very good condition, but there were areas where the turf had either too much or too little water - unplayable patches on almost fairway.

The greens were particularly beat up. Players MUST fix their ball marks. Every green had dozens and dozens of ball marks that players had left without fixing. It is the number one area that Timbers must attend to improve playability.

Great course, a must play if you are staying near the Delaware beaches

I have played Bear Trap Dunes twice. The second time was more enjoyable than the first. Practice facilities are first rate. The course has five tee boxes to ensure that golfers of every level can enjoy the course.

The entire course was "path only" after a night of heavy rain, an understandable precaution. The fairways were in very good shape and mostly dry despite the rain. The green were dry and average speed, likely much quicker in dryer weather. There was water in many of the sand traps, but staff was busily pumping the water out of the traps.

Overall, an excellent experience, highly recommended.

Good course, not likely to replay. I am from the east coast. Too many other courses to play.

The course was in good to very good condition, with the exception of #10 fairway that is under major maintenance. There are a couple of tee boxes where the view is spectacular. Fairways were in very good shape. The only thing that I really didn't like was the 3 par on the back nine where the tee box lined you up toward the left and the opening to the green was angled to the right which made the tee shot overly difficult for the first timer on the course. To further complicate matters, there is a "gimmicky" hump in the middle of the green. With the exception of that one hole, the course is highly recommended.
