Overseeding week

Since I played as a guest I don't know what the greens fees were but the posted rate is $135.00. The course was entirely overseeded and probably hadn't been cut in a few weeks. The tee boxes and fairways were 1"+ of new sprouting grass. Since the course was over watered and with the recent rainfall cart path only conditions prevailed. You could not find your ball in the fairway as it was either plugged or could not be seen from the cart path. Every bunker was either covered in mud or was unplayable as damage was never repaired from the rain. The greens suffered the same overseeding problem and ran about 4 on the stimpmeter.
I play many different courses over the Grand Strand and have not seen any worse conditions than the Norman course. To add insult, they post a $135.00 greens fee. There are much better conditioned courses that you can play for $40.00. I would call the Norman course before you play and ask what the conditions are. If they are not as advertised, then ask for your money back.

It was a really wet fall! The flooding in South Carolina even closed a 90-mile stretch of I-95 in October and the whole state had not dried out by November. But conditions are great now on all the Barefoot courses. Give them another chance when you're back in the area!

Premium golf course should have premium conditions

I don't like to issue a bad review on any golf course but when a course is advertised as a premium course, golfers expect premium conditions. This is what you should expect from a course bearing the Nicklaus name.
I play golf on Grand Strand courses almost every day and was very disappointed in the condition of Long Bay compared to the other courses in the area. It was a Tuesday and looked like the fairways were not mowed for several weeks, the greens were bare and putted poorly. When we reached our 10th hole (the first hole) the sprinklers popped on in the middle of our backswing and next thing were knew we were being followed by a maintenance crew dispensing some chemical on the fairways. The GPS in our cart shutdown after the first hole and an error message read the system could not find the course. After several reboots, we gave up.
