Carambola Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2017No Staff on Site
Had a tee time, took a taxi from the Buccaneer resort, got to the course and found no one there. Security did not know why no one was at the clubhouse. Waste of time and taxi money. Just go to the pool or beach at the Buccaneer.
The Buccaneer Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2017Just go to the Pool or Beach
Course is not worth the money you are paying for a couple views that you can have for free by walking the fitness trail which is mostly the golf cart path. Course is cart path only, which makes for a long round with too much time spent carrying 2-3 clubs to your ball. Cart path only might work for the locals who walk but not resort guests for this course. Many uphill shots to the greens, short course, and bunkers not raked. No reason to take golf clubs to St. Croix, just enjoy the pool and beach.
Little Mountain Country Club
Played On 06/25/2016Not sure it should be ranked as a top public course in Ohio
A foursome from Columbus came up to play Little Mountain at 12:12pm (we played Fowler's Mill at 6:30am). Parking lot looked full when we arrived, we were about an hour early so we grabbed lunch, food was good. Teed off on time when the starter standing on the steps off the clubhouse told us we could now drive to the first tee. Found why he was standing on the steps when we drove out to #1 which is out in the middle of the course (first time we had experience that). Probably need a starter on #1 with a walkie talkie. Course is in average condition but well below that for a course to be ranked as a top 5 course in Ohio. Bare spots in the fairways and many bunkers were GUR or unplayable. Other bunkers were full of a great deal of white sand. Greens ran at good spend for a top course. Course would be worth playing for less money (we played $50 for an afternoon tee time. Pace of play was very good. Course does not compare to the #1 course in Ohio - Longaberger.
River/Maple at Fowler's Mill Golf Course
Played On 06/25/2016Nice Course
Four of us from Columbus played the first tee time (6:30) on a Saturday morning having never played Fowler's Mill before (we played Little Mountain later in the day). No one at the bag drop area to greet us at 6:00am. Girl behind the pro shop counter where we need to check in, just ignores us (we are the only people there) as she is not happy about something and counting pennies out of the register. After we finally get checked in, one of us asks about coffee - we are told there is none but they are working on it. We hit a few balls and practice putts and one of us goes to check on coffee just before we are to tee off - still no coffee. Course is very nice, very good conditions. Greens were not as fast as you would have expected or wanted, maybe they were not mowed. Coffee was available at the turn. Played in 4:15, but of course we teed off first and let a 2-some through on the 3rd hole. After the round we saw a few guys at the bag drop who chatted with us but did not offer to clean our clubs.
Fowler's Mill is ranked as a top 5 Public course in Ohio, which may be true, but, Longaberger is a distant #1. Our foursome would play it again.
EagleSticks Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2016Great Course
Course was in great shape, no complaints. Love playing the course, have played in at least once or twice a year for many years. Great price to play the course. We did see someone walking but I would not recommend anyone walking the course. The course is hilly and you will be walking up and down hills just from the cart to the green.
Hope to see you again soon!
Sun City Lakes Golf Club - West Course
Played On 06/02/2016Always Enjoyable
I'm a member of RCSC so I play all the Sun City courses when I'm in town. I usually play a very early tee time so pace of play is never a problem and I always walk. Beware - 5 somes are a allowed and happen all the time on any of the RCSC courses. The course is flat with a nice layout.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 06/01/2016Nice Course
The course was nice, no complaints but not as nice as the top 100 public courses in AZ (I played AK-Chin Southern Dunes the day before). Two things could have been better - 1) Fairways all had mowed grassed left on the fairways - 2) Maintenance workers kept mowing sometimes when I was hitting. Must hit the fairways, very little room off the fairways (desert golf).
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2016Excellent
This is the 5th top 100 public course I have played in AZ over the past 1.5 years and it is just as nice as the others. Loved the course, great layout, excellent conditions with some tough deep bunkers on some holes. I played solo at 6am (first tee time), those working on the course were great, allowing me to play through them when I was ready. I played for $39, incredible value, I did drive an hour from Sun City, but worth the drive. Next time I will replay. There were flies, not terrible, but very noticeable. I checked it off my bucket list but I will be back.
Riverview Golf Course
Played On 05/29/2016Greens are tough
The course was redone last year, re-opened in Q4 2015 so the greens are hard and fast. They will keep getting better. Course was in good shape, has been every time I play it.
Sun City Country Club
Played On 05/28/2016Should be / Probably will be better
I played on a Saturday afternoon as I just got into town that morning (house is on the 18th). I walked, very few people on the course with temps in the 90's This course has struggled since deciding to go dormant this past winter. Fairways have too many bare / thin grass areas. Greens are being redone so grass is also thin on them. The course should keep getting better, but right now there are better courses in Sun City that cost less.
Windy Knoll Golf Club
Played On 05/21/2016Aways worth the Drive
Live in the Columbus area and every year I head to Springfield to play Windy Knoll. Love the layout, fairways and greens are in great shape. Staff is very nice and you can't beat the price for a great course. Always walk the course and always tee off very early.
Black Diamond Golf Course
Played On 05/07/2016Tough Course to Review
The course layout is fantastic, worth the drive. The course is hard for the average golfer with most every hole having an elevation change. Every green has undulations so 3 putts are going to happen but the green speed is average. Don't try to walk the course (I did last year), some huge hills in between holes. The issue I have with the course is that maintenance is not being kept up. Cart path is in terrible shape, half the bunkers have not been maintained in 2016, and no bunker had a rake. Last year the bunkers were not an issue. I played with my brother and we both were only charged for the walking rate. That along with the course not being busy, in a small town, I wonder if this course is going to stay in business long. I hope so.
