Tubac Golf Resort - Rancho/Otero
Played On 03/19/2019Disappointed
I'm a winter visitor. I was really looking forward to my first ever round at Tubac. I drove down from Tucson. Even with a nice discount from Golf Now I feel the course was overpriced given the condition it was in, compared to other courses in the general area. The grass on the tees and fairways was really long, more like rough (not cut for several days), well normal rough, here the rough is still dormant. Many of the fairways were inconsistent ranging from clumps of grass to individual blades to bare spots from unrepaired divots, again more visible due to not having been cut lately. Maybe they also got a mixed batch of overseeding grass seed. Additionally, the greens didn't roll very true. Green speed was average. Another problem is that some of the hole plugs have been put in lower than the surface of the green, making them obstacles if they are in your line. The cart guys have to get you your ice water and there are very few refilling places on the course. There is also no beverage cart or Marshalls. There are some good holes, multiple tee boxes and nice views, but I was expecting a better conditioned, better serviced course. I'll be happy to play Randolph later this week. It's closer, less expensive, better serviced and in better shape than Tubac. I won't be returning.
Windermere Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/23/2016Beautiful Day Up North
I chose to play Windermere partly to add another notch to my Stanley Thompson designed courses belt. I was treated to an excellently conditioned course, that though not long by todays standards was quite challenging due to its elevation changes, narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers and small greens. The layout with respect to rock outcroppings is not as dramatic as some other Muskoka courses. The property does lack a driving range. (Net provided instead.) I'll be back for a rematch.
Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course - Deerhurst Lakeside
Played On 06/17/2016Has Nobody Played Here Since 2012?
I decided to give this course a try despite some negative reviews seeing as they were really old! I enjoyed my round. It was a challenging walk with many elevation changes. The front 9 is more interesting than the back. There are some pretty views of the lake. The course was in quite good shape with the exception of some clover in the fairways. If you are pressed for time or don't want to spend a ton on green fees, Deerhurst Lakeside if a great option.
North Granite Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2016Muskoka Gem
Don't be hung up on the fact that the course is "only Par 70." It is a great test of golf, with everything you'd expect from a Muskoka property, including a few black flies. The course was not busy the day I played so I enjoyed the vistas while relaxing in the signature chairs provided at most tees. Rivals Grandview at a fraction of the price.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 11/3/2012Good course for the price and central location +++.
Course was in excellent condition for the time of year. Nice choice of tees for players of various abilities. Only Par 70 but that helps make it fun. A Marshal would be helpful when on group is holding up the entire golf course. Practice facilities could be enhanced with a mat and net to hit a few shots into before teeing off as the 1st hole is one of the most challenging on the course. Greens ran true if a little on the slow side.
Thanks for the review! We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. We hope to see you back again soon.
