ASU Karsten Golf Course
Played On 07/21/2018ASU Gem
Never made it a priority to play Karsten and now I am kicking myself for that. Great price to play summer golf at ASU's old stomping grounds. Fairways are in great shape. Greens have some bare spots but didnt take away from the round. Very hilly course and driving the ball well is a must. You really have to think your way around this course. Staff was great and I will be back to play again real soon.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2018Great Course
First time playing Longbow. Great course and well designed. Having a map of the course was a necessity playing from the back tees. Only complaint i really had were the greens being slow with sand on them. Fairways are in decent shape and I will definitely make my way back!
Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan - Willow Glen
Played On 07/06/2018Hot Day in El Cajon
Was a very hot day to play. About 105 with a bunch of humidity. Greens were soft and you could throw darts at them. Fairways were in ok shape as it is summer time. Being from Arizona im used to summer golf conditions, but didnt expect that in Cali. 60 dollars for the round was a little pricey for the conditions they have. Fun course to play though, I will say that. Got through my round in about 3 hours which was nice.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 06/30/2018Great Summer Golf
Papago is in great shape for being in mid summer. I am beyond excited for their facilities to be done. The driving range will be fantastic when it is done. Playing from the tips is difficult here. Didnt shoot the best round but I will be visiting again soon.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2018Disappointment Once Again
Every single year I give this course a chance. Every single year I leave wishing i didnt waste my time. Fairways are in poor condition and its only the beginning of summer. Fairways are so bad that its better to be in the rough than the middle of the fairway. Anything 120 and in your literally hitting out of dirt/dead grass. I just dont get it. I dont understand how they let this happen. Im done giving this course a chance. Its sad because this course is easy and fun to play with a great group.
Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
Played On 07/29/2017Great Course As Always
Camelback Golf Club in my opinion has the best facilities in the city. They boast two beautiful courses. Padre is your more traditional course and Ambiente is the link style course. Ambiente forces you to hit shots in certain areas in order for you to play the hole in regulation. I absolutely love this course and will continue to come back here every summer. It is pricey in the winter time, but i am more than happy to endure a hot day to play a course of this caliber. Their staff is always friendly and top notch. Course is in great shape. There were a few greens with some bare spots; but the shape the course is in, is miles ahead of everyone else in the city. Cant recommend playing here enough.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2017Great course
Great alternative to Dinosaur Mountain if your in the area. I play this course a few times a year and it never disappoints. Staff is always friendly and the course was in decent shape. Pace of play was fantastic.
Bison Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2017Pleasantly Surprised
Went up to Pinedale for the weekend and spent some time with the family up at our Cabin. I had been waiting to play some golf up here and was not disappointed. Range is really small, but the warm up area feels very personal. Your tucked away hitting balls between the tree lines listening to the wind blow through the trees. Absolutely Incredible. The course is actually in really great shape. Probably the best fairways ive hit off of. The greens were slick. There are a few greens that had some areas of concern, but they are fixing it. The ranger was awesome and friendly. He rides around with his beagle and is the nicest ranger i have ever met. The course has some forced carries makes you use a lot of different shots to get to where you need to be. There are some blind second shots as well, which make the course difficult on some holes. Fairways are narrow on some holes so tee shot accuracy is a must. Dont really have any complaints to be honest. Great course and i will definitely be playing every time i go up there during their season.
Club West Golf Club
Played On 04/15/2017Disappointing
I played club west about two years ago in the summer and really hadn't been back since. I've always known them to have a nice course. I read the reviews before going and id have to say, i think people were a little over the top about the fairways. They are in summer condition hands down, but the greens i will fully agree with people on. The greens were bumpy and horrid. Ive played greens in mid summer that were better than these. I'm not sure what they are going through but id hope by next winter they get it together. Only reason i'm not recommending to still go and play is due to the greens. I can over look the fairways due to being an avid Az summer golfer, i'm used to it. The greens though really ruined the round for me. Its a great course, i hope they get things worked out.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 11/05/2016Pro Shop Troubles
Ive played this course many times over the course of the last few years. Its a long course so its great for working on your longer clubs. Normally i would give them a decent review, but the way they treated us in the pro shop was absolutely absurd. I take my spouse as a rider many times through out the year and have taken her with multiple times to this specific course in the winter and summer. They tried to charge me a rider fee for the first time in 3 years even tho it is not written anywhere in their rules or pricing. The head pro was extremely rude about the entire situation as customer service is obviously not his strong suit. The staff outside was very nice as usual. Honestly for the price i paid it was worth it only because it was a hot deal. Anything over 35 dollars here is a waste of your money. Ive read reviews about the head pro in many other places with people stating how rude and inconsiderate he is. Id suggest Johnson Ranch get him up to speed on customer service training.
Quailwood Greens Golf Course
Played On 07/04/2016Ive played worse
So i didnt expect much from this course to begin with. When you have stoneridge and Prescott country club up the street its hard to compare. There were some greens that had some brown areas in them. The layout is ok and not really hard. The thing that made this course "hard" was the rough. The rough in some parts were thick and long. Outside of that its just a below average maintained course. Honestly i wouldn't pay more than 15 bucks to play in the summer. It was good place fora hungover round that i didnt care about, i had fun though. Some of the holes bring a little challenge. If you an afford it, play stoneridge antelope and prescott cc. I only utilized this course to get a second round in over the weekend while we were in town for the holiday.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 02/27/2016Never Again
Ive played this course many times over the last couple years and have always enjoyed my time here. I would say ive come about 4-5 times over the last two years and every time now i come back more disappointed than ever.. First off we had a five some in front of my group of 3. Because of this we did not finish our round with a 2 o clock start time. With the sun going down at 630+ that's more than enough time to get a round in. Secondly, the greens were horrific. Greens are not cut down and are as slow as putting on a fairway and this is not an exaggeration. I think it was the 16th hole that the back side of the green legitimately looked like rough. This was on the green and extended about 3 feet inwards. There were many holes where there was mud just off the greens as well, im talking within a foot or so. There were wet spots and mud in the fairways as well. You can look at my post history, ive played here before and used to love buying cheap rounds here. I just honestly cant recommend anyone play this course. I will not come back until i see multiple 3+ star reviews consistently. Id rather spend another 30 dollars somewhere decent.
Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 02/13/2016The Diabolical Mind of Pete Dye
Not gonna lie, I was very nervous to play this course do to Pete Dye designing it. I play a lot of courses across the valley but never played one with such a high slope rating. Nearly every green in some form is tiered and/or has Undulating Greens. Greens are fast and true. I had a lot of fun and gained even more respect for what some of the pros play on. Although this is not the hardest course in the world, dealing with pin placement, rolling hills, slick greens, and approach shots that need to be perfect really throw you for a whirl. I posted an 83 which i was more than happy with. Had it not be for a double and a triple(first hole jitters) i would have shot under 80. Great Course. I Will play again in the summer when the rates go down.
Fountain of the Sun Country Club
Played On 01/30/2016Quite Surprised
Look, we all know where seniors stay round the city.. especially when the snowbirds are in town. I booked this round not even thinking about it and my buddy and I ended up being the youngest people within 5 square miles. Driving range was short so i only got to warm up with my driver for a few swings., but that's ok. Shotgun start with seniors meant for a long day, right? Wrong! Pace of play was absolutely fantastic. I think i waited 5 minutes or less on a few holes. The greens were immaculate. They rolled true and balls stuck. You could throw darts at the greens all day. Course layout is fairly easy. They have a 400 yard par 5, which you can expect at a seniors course. Overall i had a lot of fun with the two others we got paired up with and would love to come back in the summer to see if the greens hold up. Great Place to work on your irons.
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 12/26/2015Heck of A Day
I love Arizona. I love the weather and how we can play golf year round. Oh man was Saturday ridiculous. 25 mph and 40 degrees. Not my ideal day for golf, but oh well. Course was in great shape overall. No complaints at all. I cant wait to play this course with better weather. Greens were a tad slow but im sure they will get faster as the winter goes on.
Hi Dwhite083,
Thank you for playing at Bear Creek Golf Complex, and thank you for the 5 star rating! We are happy to hear that even with the colder than normal temperatures you still were able to enjoy your round. We look forward to your visit back in warmer weather!
Best Wishes,
Bear Creek Golf Complex Management
Las Colinas Golf Club
Played On 12/05/2015Great Shape
I frequent los colinas once every few months when im in the area. I played this course a lot during the summer and love the layout. Winter is in full affect and you can definitely tell. Greens are true and fairways are in great shape. Was very pleased with the job they did getting it into shape! I hate paying winter prices for golf and these guys keep the prices low. Paid 30 bucks for a mid day tee time!
Dwhite, Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback and appreciation of the course and value we offer. You are welcome back anytime and we hope to see you soon!
Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2015Beautiful Day
Played Kenny Mac multiple times before and have always had a good time. The course is getting ready for over seeding but was still very playable. Greens were a lot faster than you expect. Couldnt really throw darts at the green because nothing would stick, but thats the end of summer golf anywhere. Overall had a great time. Only thing that really irked me was they didnt call me for my tee time and didnt have enough cart keys to provide me with a cart when i got there. Really? How do you not have enough cart keys for all your carts? If your looking for a cheap round while courses transition into winter go for it. Course is always in great shape come winter.
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 09/26/2015Pleasantly Surprised
I haven't played this course in a couple years, but knew what to expect. I was very surprised with the Greens. The greens arnt in the best shape but they rolled pretty fast. Any shot from 125 out is going to roll out tremendously. A lot of the greens around the city this time of the year you can throw darts at, not here tho. Fairways are in great shape too. They key to this course is staying in the fairways and not trying to play hero shots. The rough on this link style course is thick. Pace of play was pretty good. Overall had a good time and will be visting again!
Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 09/17/2015Summer golf at Its Best
Summer time is when i usually play all the more expensive courses, so when i saw the deal for this course i couldn't pass it up. The first shot is blind tee shot over a hill towards Rustlers Rooste Restaurant. Right then and there i knew i was going to have to be smart about how i play ed this course. The front part of the course has water everywhere, after the 5th hole the rest of course is mor desert and in between houses. Absolutely beautiful course, even in the summer. Only a few greens were spotty which is great for this time of the year. Half your tee shots are blind, but they do give a yardage book so you can plan out your shots. My only gripe is that their "range" is almost like a batters cage with a net for you to hit balls into. Outside of that, an amazing course that i will visit next summer when the rates go down.
Thank you for spending the day with us and for recommending our course. We really appreciate the review!
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2015Needs TLC
Ive played this course a few times before. It is the middle of summer so i dont have high expectations for courses with it being so hot outside. First and foremost a course should know that they should be watering the fairways and tee boxes mid day. My biggest pet peeve in golf is muddy fairways. IM talking about when you go to hit your sw 100 yards for the from the middle of the fairways and it only goes 60 because the ground is so soft that you cant get a clean hit. That type of thing should never happen in a fairway. Weve had a couple storms come through and they had a lot of trees go down throughout the course. Understandable. The problem is theyve been down for two weeks. I played with two members who said that the trees were down from the strom two weeks ago. Driving range is closed due to downed poles. Overall it was just a terrible experience. I will say that they are redoing a lot of the tee boxes. I think during the winter this course will get back up to speed but i will not being playing there until summer is over and the course overall is in better shape.
Hi "Dwhite083" We apologize about the current course conditions on this particular day. With the hot summer month in Phoenix we do need to water the course on a regular basis to keep it from drying out. We are doing our best with the staff we have to upkeep the course after this terrible storm. We hope that this current situation will not defer you from playing our course in the near future.
We are sorry to hear that we did not exceed your expectations. Please email us at AhwatukeeGolf@outlook.com to speak further. We look forward to hearing from you.
