Sandpiper Golf Club - Lakes/Palms Course
Played On 04/23/2016They call it Sandpiper for a reason
0-4 handicap. Course is very wide. Greens are smaller than average. Plenty of hazards both water and sand. The greens are very healthy albeit slower than average. Stimpmeter speed of 7. Yes I own my own stimpmeter. 30 bucks on eBay. Lucky for me I had a few locals to play with David and Wenn. Nice guys that offered a lot of advice on how the course was designed. Fairways had grass but also had a fair share of weeds. The tees looked okay. I would suggest this course to higher handicapers and others looking for a variety course that isn't difficult to play. Most of the water was not too much in play. The sand traps are hug and will catch off line shots.

Tee boxes were very good. Fairways were soft and green and had ample grass. The greens were good and rolled a little faster than medium speed. I would say rolling about 9 on the stimpmeter. Yes I own a stimpmeter. The only green that wasn't so great was number 1. After that the rest of the greens condition is better than the putting green. The greens were receptive to a decently struck shot. Green size is medium to slightly larger than medium for the most part. Tee to green seemed pretty narrow. And I'm a very straight hitter. I can only think of maybe two courses I've ever played that seem more narrow. Plenty of hazards here and there to keep it interesting. Only once did I feel like a hazard was hidden. On the second par five on the front. You can definitely hit it in the water off the tee on the left side. I shot within 4 strokes of my handicap and I've been scratch for 30 years. I would definitely return again. I would recommend this course but caution about how narrow it is off the tee. Most golfers will find it to be tight.
Bacon Park Golf Course

This course i would say is better than average. I enjoy playing it and I would recommend it to others and have. The renovation to the original Donald Ross design has made the course more fun to play. The greens are firm and fast. They have more grass on them than most courses I have played nearby this winter. The course like all others I have played recently is winter dormant. Overall the course handles rain well. Where it doesn't they have recently added french drains to attempt to remove excess water.

Played On 03/03/2016very windy handicap : 0-4
It was a very windy day. The course was in very good shape for this time of year. It is a very challenging course when the wind is blowing 20 mph and its your first time around. I suggest buying one of the yardage books in the pro shop. Very good Donald Ross design. Lots of bunkers in play. Overall the course is medium width tee to green with smallish greens that are well protected by water and/or bunkers. The greens seem to have about 3 sand traps guarding each one. There are two holes that come to mind that you have to lay up off the tee to avoid driving into a hidden pond. Number 5 and number 10 I believe. Staff was excellent. The practice green was having some work done, but the chipping green was so good it was just like the greens on the course. I will return and play again before I leave town. I suggest you play it forward. Course plays tough. Winter time golf !!!

Played On 02/21/2016Tough Course (4 handicap)
Tough golf course. Course knowledge is huge here. I wasn't able to play to my handicap. I shot 6 over and have been playing to about a 4 lately. I thought the course was tougher than the course rating of 72.4 (par 71) from the back tees. The first 3 holes will eat your lunch if you aren't ready. I suggest hitting a small bucket of balls or you can just throw three balls in the water on the first three holes. Your choice. If you have a buddy that out drives you by 40 but can't find the fairway that often then take him to this course and suggest a small wager. Some tight holes mixed in with a few long holes. The greens aren't that small, but were difficult to hit secondary to being firm. The greens were faster than average. The course overall condition is above average for this time of year. The design of the course is difficult. Hope to get to play it again after the grass greens up some. Overall the course drains well. Like may coastal courses you can't always see the trouble that is out there. Buy a yardage book for your group. Make then give you a few bucks each if you're cheap.
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! We're so glad you came out to play and hope to see you back soon!

Medium wide golf course that I was able to play at about my handicap the first time around. The next time around similar story. There is very little hidden trouble. The length of the course didn't seem too long. I describe myself as a medium length hitter of the ball. 4 handicap. Plenty of challenges out there, but nothing unreasonable comes to mind. Fair fun golf course. The practice green was just resurfaced late last year and is not a good indicator of the rest of the course. Look forward to playing it again. It isn't as flat as most courses around here.
Adam,
Thank you for the great 4 Star Review! We hope you will come back out in the Spring and play again!

Played On 01/04/2016Windy day
Good course. It was wet and windy when we played the course. It drains well. The staff was excellent. There were several twosomes trying to play a quick afternoon round stuck behind a couple of foursomes that were also trying to play at the same time of day that caused a log jam. Otherwise the course was in very good shape and enjoyable. Would okay again.
Bacon Park Golf Course
Played On 12/08/2015Newly opened bacon park
The refurbished 18 holes is now open for play. I was very impressed with the course. Not overly difficult from tee to green. The greens are very firm. The greens keeper likes to put the pins on top of knobs. Otherwise I liked it very much and plan to play it often. If the pins continue to be on the knobs I will say something to the management. I think that could drive away business. Frustration for the golfer on the greens is not the way to win customer loyalty. Scratch golfer.
Worth the money
I've played this course probably 6 times now. It's a good challenge from the scratch golfer point of view.

I was pleased with the course for the most part. The greens were smaller than average and had more than average slope. The areas on and around the greens was 4/5 condition. The fairways were 3/5 condition. It had rained quite a bit two days before we played and we found there to be no standing water on the course. The routing of the course was a little confusing behind the first and fifth greens. Overall the length of the course was short. The par threes were long. The par fours were short. And the par fives were average to short. The fairways were wide enough that you felt you were not being choked. I hit driver only 7 times. Don't hit driver on 17 (creek right). I played to my handicap but chipped very well. The 16 and 18 green are a bit too severe. I would play it again.

Well designed challenging course with large to medium sized greens that were in very good condition. Played from the tips and I'm a medium length hitter and felt like the course played fair. Not a bombers wide open type of course. It has rained about four days ago. Course was firm and fast tee to green. Greens crew was out working on the bunkers. Good course for the price paid
Thank you for playing the course. We appreciate the positive feedback and welcome suggestions on how we can continually keep improving the course for golfers of all skill levels.
