Fun course. Perfect greens.

I usually olny golf here in the middle of the summer. The greens were in great shape. Lots of fun shooting right at the pins.

Great views!!

Play this course if you are in Sedona and don't want to waste your day hunting for healing rocks or walking through a flea market with a bunch of retirees selling overpriced eyesores they like to refer to as art. Don't tell my wife I wrote that! The course is short. Most holes were a long iron off the tee followed by a wedge. The greens are well protected by sand but large enough to let you pick a safe zone. The only issue I had with the course occurred on the first hole. It is a par 5 that requires a big slice off the tee. It seemed like the course moved the tee back at some point to add length resulting in a circus hole. If I play it again I will hit a mid-iron off the first followed by another and then wedge it in for a par. The feature I will remember most about this course are the views. I had to break out the camera on almost every hole.

Nice golf experience.

This course is in very good shape. The staff was helpful and seemed to really care about my experience. The course was pretty full but moved along well. The residents were friendly and happy to share their course with an outsider. The range is short to mid iron only but that is exactly what you should hit off most of the tees. They do have one short par 5 with water down the right side and traps surrounding the green.

Phoenix Golf is a joke.

Other than the dog track that was once the great Papago golf course, I love playing the City of Phoenix municipal courses but I have never liked the call center the city uses to manage these courses. Even the number on the scorecard goes to someone sitting in a cubicle. We had an on course issue with some golfers jumping in front of us causing a slowdown. The golf operator asked me to hold while he tried to contact the proshop. After over five minutes, he came back on the line to tell me that he was not able to get through!! So I call the proshop number to get a guy who has to call the proshop? What!?! I asked him what could be done and he answered that he had no idea!! What a disconnect. When I finished I told the guy at the proshop about the issue and was told that he would have handled it if he had been made aware. It was tough watching him apologize for something he has no control over. Now it looks like they are going to outsource the course maintenance as well. I feel bad for the good guys that have been taking care of the place for 20 years that soon will have no ability to control a player's experience at their own course. If they don't handle the payment or the course conditions, are they just golf cart schedulers? I am sure we can find a company to do that as well.

Not a good experience.

The staff is not friendly. They are short and bothered on the phone and visibly annoyed by golfers in person. The course looks like the maintenance staff was fired months ago and nobody was hired to replace them. This place has potential but seems to be run by people that have given up.

Time for overseeding.

I read the recent reviews before golfing this course so I was ready for the conditions. It is dry and will be shut down soon for overseeding. The fairways were more dirt than grass and the greens did have a bunch of sand on them but this should all be taken care of by late October.
Conditions aside, here are some items that might be helpful for future golfers. This is a course that uses very small, elevated greens to compensate for its lack of length. Most greens have multiple bunkers left, right and deep but not in the front. This would most likely be appealing to senior golfers that play a lower shot and rely on some roll. I found that a 120 yard approach shot that normally would not be a big deal seemed impossible because the landing area was so small. There are also a number of canals that run through the property and are not always visible when taking a shot. The starter listed the holes that had canal crossings which helped.
The holes are very tightly packed on this course. It felt like they packed 18 holes into a property best suited for 9. The range is very small requiring restricted flight balls. The first hole borders Chandler Blvd. to the north and has office buildings and parking lots pushing into the fairway. The difference between a good tee shot and a broken window is about ten yards. They also have a big sign on the tee saying that you are responsible for any damage adding pressure to the shot.
Overall, this course is worth playing because it is a change from the desert layout seen all over town and it just turned 100 years old making it one of the oldest courses in the state.

Nice course. The driving range needs work.

This is a fun track and a great value. I want to spend more time on the range but would rather hit off real grass not green carpet.

Just a heads up the range is off the grass Thursday through Sunday if you do not like to hit off the mats.

Stuck behind the senior men's league.

Just a heads up that the Friday 10:05am tee time follows a full senior men's league. It was very slow going since some were walking. Looked like some groups of 5 as well.

Big changes coming for Kenny Mac.

The course was is great shape. This is a really nice, older, in town golf course. It looks like they have plans to build a new clubhouse closer to the range and the current 17 tee box. This would allow for a parking lot without the walk across the canal.

I think I played a great course.

I was really excited to play this course but had no idea what I was getting myself into. I would place this course as a top 5 in the state if it wasn't for the flies. There were a stunning amount of them. At no time was I not brushing them off my face or arms. I could feel them crawling on me when I setup to a shot. There was no way to enjoy the round. I ended up just driving the last bunch of holes to see them because I couldn't imagine stopping and dealing with the flies any more. They have free bottled water but as soon as you set them in your cart, they were covered. I was hungry but could only imagine what the kitchen at that place has to deal with. You can see tons of cow farms next to the course so I doubt it will get any better. It was like going out on a date with an incredibly hot girl only to find out that she had the worst smelling breath ever and that it was always going to be there. As much as you want to like her, it’s a deal breaker.
