DarkHorse Golf Club
Played On 06/02/2022Painful pace of play
This round to go over six hours on a Thursday afternoon
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 02/07/2018Perfection!
There are some golf courses that when you play them you know it will be a round that you remember for ever. This is that type of golf course.
Coyote Moon Golf Course
Played On 05/26/201618 Beautiful Holes
Coyote Moon is an excellent golf course. I play Coyote Moon this time of year when they offer an early season special for NCGA members. I would never pay full price.
Bring your camera because each hole is special. It doesn't favor one type of golfer over the other, but it does help if the straight hitter since it's tree-lined.
Like other have mentioned, there is no driving range, but they do have warm-up stations.
I love Coyote Moon and try to play it once a year.
Apple Mountain Golf Resort
Played On 05/16/2016Poor Man's Coyote Moon
I read Jim's review right before posting this and can agree with a lot of things he says, but all those things he wants comes with a price.
For $24 on Golf Now.com, I can't expect perfect conditions and a beverage cart girl. It's clear the course runs on a tight budget. The fairways are rock hard because they probably haven't been airified and top-dressed with sand twice a year like they should be if money was no object.
That being said, the layout is fun, beautiful and challenging for people who spray their tee shots. Apple Mountain is in a gorgeous setting, but lower your expectations because it was $25 not $125 that Coyote Moon would charge.
Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/02/2015Pray for Rain!
I almost feel guilty for giving the course 3 stars since every course in Northern California is suffering in drought conditions.
The tee boxs were in good shape. Fairways have hard pan areas but is fair conditions. The greens were horrible. Slow, shaggy, ball marks every where.
Morgan Creek is a thirsty golf course. Let's hope for a wet winter so local courses get get back in good shape.
Schaffer's Mill Club
Played On 08/31/2015Mountain Course Paradise
Schaffer's Mill is not a course I could play often because it was pretty expensive. The do offer public play on Mondays.
The proshop is pretty small with limited selection of items. The facility itself is all you need. Excellent bar/restaurant area.
The practice facilities are great. Big putting green and chipping area. Plenty of balls out at a large range area.
The course is pretty tight and not as open as some of the neighboring courses. there are holes where I wish I had hit a 3 or 5 wood instead of a driver. The fairways were perfect. The rough is practically non-existint. The greens have a lot of undulation and were very quick, smooth.
I really enjoyed Schaffer's Mill!
Serrano Country Club
Played On 08/17/2015Beautiful setting but lacks service
It was 106 today and there were no water jugs out on the course. A nice country club should have bottled waters in coolers or refrigerators out on the course. The snack shack was closed for our tournament of 120 players. There were about 20 pyramids of range balls for the 120 players and we hit off mats. Mats at a country club is not a good thing.
The course was in good shape from tee yo green. The greens were a little slow but I don't blame them since it's been a hot summer.
Cart guys didn't appreciate my tip when I dropped off the clubs. I wonder if this is a no tipping facility. Guy didn't thank me. Pro shop is pretty small and crammed with stuff.
The Golf Club at Grays' Crossing
Played On 08/09/2015Spectacular!
The course was in terrific shape. From tee to green, there was hardly a blade of grass out of place. They have an excellent practice facility with balls on the range, short game area, and multiple putting greens.
I'll be back.

West at Rancho Canada Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2015Lower Your Expectations
(The picture in the description is of number 9 East.)
The West course is tougher than the East because more trees come into play. Holes 1-2 are two of the toughest and often into the wind. Holes 12 and 15 are as narrow as any course can get.
Like others have said, the pro-shop staff aren't very friendly and the course conditions are poor (bad bunkers and slow greens).
I play here when I feel I'm not on my game and I need something close to my parents house (driving on highway 1 can be slow).
Mather Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2015Wide Open, Long, Boring
Mather is the kind of course that you could get tired of very quickly. A lot of the holes look the same. Tee boxes are not flat and the sand in the bunkers is like heavy dirt. The greens are usually in good shape, but the course gets a lot of riff-raft playing it and usually find trash scattered about. It is fairly long and the back nine is more interesting than the front.
The pro-shop is a real armpit. I usually find the staff to be rude and feel as though I'm in a check-out line at Target rather than at a golf course. Amazing amount of mice and vols running around the pro-shop grounds outside.
Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Monterey's Second Best Kept Secret
BlackHorse was in excellent condition from tee to green. I tee'd off at 4pm and was done by 6:45pm. BlackHorse is wide open with the main defense off the tee being fairway bunkers. The greens have a lot of slope and you often have to play approached away from the green , so the ball will roll towards the pin location. Their twilight rate is the best deal in town.
Bennett Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/27/2015Great Value
California is in a sever drought, but Bennett Valley is still nice and green. The front nine has good charcter, but the back nine has 4 or 5 holes that run parrell to each other and look the same. The tee boxs are alright and the fairways were in good shape, Bunkers had wet, muddy sand, but that may because I played VERY early in the morning. The greens were good, but a bit slower than what I am use to.
DarkHorse Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2015Worth the drive
Darkhorse is always a fun experience. You don't come here to be awed by the clubhouse, it is the design and value of the course that makes it great. There are lots of good rates on GolfNow. The first 5 holes are really tough and there are birdie opportunities after that until 11. The one way to improve is the bunkers which are full of rocks and always have been. DarkHorse is in my top 3 courses in the Sacramento area.
Thank so much for the detailed review! We agree that our golf course is the bread and butter of our facility, and we like it that way! We value our partnership with GolfNow, so we're glad you found it to be a great experience. Would you mind if we share your pictures on our Facebook page? They're awesome!!
West at Rancho Canada Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2015Good warm-up or Ego Boosting course
For $40 with a cart on a Saturday morning, it is hard to complain. I teed off at 6:15am and was done by 8:30am. The tee boxes are often uneven, rough inconsistent, and the greens slow. It is in a pretty setting and good for the ego since the East Course is shorter and more wide open than it's brother the West Course. I play Rancho when I need to get around fast early in the morning or my game is struggling.
North at Rancho Murieta Country Club
Played On 05/04/2015Too Many Homes
I was really disappointed with this course. A private club that makes you hit off mats on the driving range is unacceptable. The putting green is severly sloped, so it's hard to get a good feel of the greens. The greens on the course were slow. There are so many hole that have homes on both sides of the holes and right up against the fairways. I will never be back.
Castle Oaks Golf Club
Played On 09/14/2014Castle Oaks-A Pleasant Surprise
$40 rate on golfnow.com, so I arrived at Castle Oaks for the first time with low expections. My expectations were exceeded.
The course was in very good shape for this time of year. The tees and greens were in great shape. The fairways were pretty soggy which was surprising.
The driving range has very good balls, and the staff in the shop, and snack bare were all friendly.
I'll be back because $40 with a cart is a great deal and I love a great deal.
Thank you for the 4 Stars and for coming out and playing. We are always running great deals and you can find out about them through our Facebook page or by signing up for our emails! We hope to see you back at Apple Mountain!
