Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 02/28/2020Best so far at this price range.
Was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent price for on island. This is a really nice layout. Course was in good shape for this time of year. Tee boxes good, fairways not over seeded so thin but NOT bare spotted so very playable, greens are painted but are in good shape with good bite but a little slow. Bunkers have a good sand base and where well trimmed. Cart paths in excellent condition.
Will play again for sure and would recommend.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 02/17/2020Great mid winter golf
Course is in great shape for February. Lots of grass on fairways and tee boxes. Bunkers in good shape, greens rolling very well. Rough is dormant so if your off the fairway your not really penalized. Paid $50 on Golf now so a great price. Price should be a bench mark for some of the other off island courses who shouldn't be charging more that $25.
Would recommend for sure.
Pine Knot Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/20/2019Great Fall golf
Excellent conditions for late fall. Fairways dry and lush, greens were extremely fast.
Tee boxes in good shape.
This course is fairly wide open so you can stray a few drives and still be able to make a second shot.
Thanks for the great review we hope to see you soon
Forest City National Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2019Best public course in the area
FANTASTIC!! This course is by far the best public course in the area. The price to play is excellent. The fairways are immaculate. The greens are fantastic, rolling true and fast. Your ball sticks when it hits the green, so you can do a lot of pin seeking. Bunkers are so so, we always lift rake and place.
Otter Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2019WOW what a beautiful beast of a course
First time playing Otter Creek. Wow this course is tough, BUT fair. Played the whites which play about 6,000 yards. Wind was blowing, what a day. Loved it. The fairways are immaculate. The greens in beautiful condition, bunkers awesome, you could putt on the tee boxes.
This course is a steal for the price and well worth the 1 hour drive from London.
I would not recommend it to a beginner.
Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 03/27/2019Worth the hot deal
A good course if you get a good price deal. Tee boxes thin to sparce. Fairways bone dry, reminded me of our Ontario courses at the end of August after a long hot dry summer. Greens where cut and smooth and the ball rolled well. Bunkers ?? Well we just pull our ball out.
As I said well worth playing if you get a good price
Tarandowah Golfers Club
Played On 09/24/2018Bring plenty of balls
This is a really fun course to play. It's link style with lots of bunkers. (When I was in them it was automatically a double bogey). The rough is thick long grass so goodbye ball (when I was in it it was automatically a double bogey). I usually shoot between 85 and 90 but was happy here to break 100...shot a 97. The fairway and greens where in really good shape. BUT the greens where as hard as cement so nothing stayed on whether it was a pitch or punch. However putting conditions where excellent. I really recommend you play here to experience true links style like the Open.
Granite Ridge Golf Club - Cobalt
Played On 08/25/2017Wear a hard helmet
Holes are tightly wedged together. Would make a great 18 or 27 hole course but there was clearly not enough room for 36. If you play here be aware of balls flying at you from any direction.
Tarandowah Golfers Club
Played On 06/07/2017HI it staight or play somewhere else
This is a links style course with deep thick grasses after the second cut..If you don't hit your ball straight off the tee or with your irons I suggest you play elsewhere. .You may find your ball but you will never hit it out ...so take a penalty stroke and move on. The greens where in excellent condition, rolled true and with speed. Best bunkers I've played at a public course around London..great thick sand NOT peastone..Enjoyed the round
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 03/28/2017Best value for the money
Pay $100 on the island or drive 20 minutes to play a beautiful course for half the price. Don't get sucked in to the cheeper off island courses, pay the little bit extra and play here. The fairways are over seeded, the greens excellent, the tee boxes are grassy not dirt. Your fairway shots will be off spungy grass not dirt so your club face will not bounce and you won't skull the ball.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 03/12/2017Fairways in great shape.
If you want fairways in summer condition (grass not dirt) then you'll want to play Old South. I have been playing many off island courses since January, and all that I have played have dormant grass fairways except Old South and Hilton Head National. To get those conditions on the island would cost a lot of money so it it is well worth the drive to get great fairway conditions at a very reasonable price. Greens where slow, BUT if you hit on to the green with any loft the ball will stick and not shoot off the back like you're hitting cement. Bunkers were typical "beach" sand, tee boxes are a bit turtle backed.
Hi "u000004858211" Thank you for the great review. We appreciate you taking the time to come see us and are so glad that Old South could make your day. Can't wait to have you back again with us next year!
Pine Knot Golf and Country Club
Played On 06/08/2016A real ego booster
If you feel like a lower score for a change this is the course to play. The short par 4s allow you to hit a drive close to the green and feel like the pros hiring a wedge into the green. The fairways and greens are in great condition, and the rough is cut low. The bunkers are typical gravely sand so we just lift rake and place. This is a fun course and we'll worth the price
Island West Golf Club
Played On 04/18/2016Wow what a disappointment
Right now the course is in TERRIBLE condition. The fairways are hard as rock..was like hitting off cement. The greens are in between season, so they had little to no actual grass on them and where also hard as rock....I have played this course all winter and it was in great shape, one of brown's best values. For now I would say don't waste your money and play somewhere else .
Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2016Pass this one up
Normally the Brown Golf Management courses are an excellent place to play. usually in great shape for the winter and great value for the money. Unfortunately Crescent Point was not. The tee boxes where almost non existent on a few holes, the fairways where patchy and had to move the ball around to find some grass to hit off. The greens where in awful condition. Would recommend that you pass this course over and play one of the other Brown courses in the area.
I played on 4/5/16 and found the course in the same poor condition. Staff blamed it on a "late transition" to the Bermuda, but I don't think you can blame that for everything. I've played this course a few times each year since it opened and never saw it this bad from tee to green and everywhere in between.
Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 02/20/2016Best bang for your buck !!
Unlike many of the more reasonably priced courses in the HHI area the fairways here are well over-seeded so in great condition for winter golf. Greens in excellent winter condition, bunkers in pretty good shape as well. This course has an excellent practice facility. If you are looking to play a great course at a fantastic price for the HHI area, make sure you play here and for that matter any of the other Brown Golf Management courses .
Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 01/12/2016Much better under New Management
I was excited last year to learn that Rose Hill had been taken over by Brown Golf Management, and for good reason. The course has never been in this good condition. There is grass on the fairways !! There is grass on the tee decks. They still have a ways to go but it is so nice to see this course very playable for January. Oh and they no longer spray paint the greens with green paint. Thank you Brown Golf Management, keep up the great work !!
Forest City National Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2015Wow 70degrees on Nov 3rd & great golf!!
Nov and the course is in excellent condition fairways are carpet, greens best shape of the year .... Grounds crew have done an amazing job clearing leaves, cutting, etc .. Is the best public course in London.. Only complaint, and I have this with all the public courses, it's the bunkers.. Like hitting off cement... If you haven't played here you're missing out
Thank you for your review and for playing at Forest City National! We are extremely happy to hear that you had such a wonderful experience and consider us the best public course in London. We hope to have you back again soon!
Hickory Ridge Golf and Country Club
Played On 10/09/2015Best value in London
An amateur golfers dream course. Conditions of greens and fairways are always excellent. Tee blocks need work. We don't play out of the bunkers. Like all but the really high end courses in London the bunkers are crushed gravel and very thin. Most of the par 4 holes are under 300 yards so any drive over 200 yards leaves you hitting wedges, that is a lot of fun (just like the pros). You can score well here usually break 90 so it makes the game a lot more fun.
We really appreciate you taking the time to post your review and appreciate the 5 stars. We look forward to seeing you at Old South again soon.
