First Time on Course

Our wives played with us today and we went out on Seaside. We were essentially on the course by ourselves so the wives felt comfortable not being pushed. The course was in great shape, flat without much bunkers or water to keep us from just hitting straight. The greens were hard and fast, and it took about 16 holes to get used to them.

Everyone said they would come back anytime to play, as it was very comfortable for their skill level.

Rough was cut low and wooded areas were kept clean so that you could easily find your ball. A big plus for us.

Flat, but interesting Layout

Although the course is flat and has only a few water holes, there are several holes that are a good challenge for a hacker such as myself. The tree lined holes are generally wide enough to accommodate unintended draws and fades, but hooks and slices will end up in the trees. The water holes have fairway along their sides, so that straight shots will be rewarded by staying dry.
Today the fairways were good and well watered; however the greens were sandy and appeared to have been recently aerated. The rough was a disappointing mix of regular grass and crabgrass.
One of the interesting holes was a par 5 that had many bunkers and a tree guarding the green. It took me awhile to figure out the best approach to use.

Short, but Challenging

This course used to be the nemesis for our group. It was always short, but challenging for us. They have cleared out many of the trees, taken away some of the bunkers, and aligned some of the tee boxes since we last played (a few years ago). It's still short and challenging for us - which speaks more to our skill level than the better course conditions. The greens and fairways are in great condition - much better then I remember. I'll be coming back to play again this fall, especially with the Hot Tee times from GolfNow.

Great Value, Excellent Course

While the course was a little out of the way (50 min from our home in DE), my wife and I enjoyed a beautiful morning at this course. There was nobody on the course when we started and when we finished, there were only a few cars in the parking lot. The course was very wet, so it was cartpath only. Because the fairways are narrow, it doesn't take long to walk over to your ball. The fairways and greens were in great shape.
I plan on going back again soon. I hope the course is just as quiet and serene as it was the other day.

Too Cold to Finish

My wife and I were first time players on this course and had heard great things about it. We played late afternoon (3 pm) and didn't really expect to finish all 18 holes. The day was sunny and in the 60s. First thing we noticed was that the entire course was aerated, including the fairways and greens. Putting was bumpy. Second issue was that the electric cart died on hole 4. Luckily they had a GPS system that allowed us to call the clubhouse to get another cart. Got one in about 15 minutes. Third was the weather changed so that the wind picked up to 15 mph and the temp dropped into the low 50s. The final blow came on hole 11. There were two groups waiting at the tee and you could see that the remainder of the course was packed. So we waited and played 11 and 12, then decided that it was too cold and windy to continue, so we left.
We'll try the course again in the near future and hope we get a better day, cart, and course conditions..

Slow Pace

The course is very playable for the average golfer. Low handicap players would probably find it too easy.
The pace of play was unbelievably slow. They have signs that state that the pace of play is 4 hours and 10 minutes per 9 holes. We started at 12:32 pm and should have finished before the sun set at 5. We could not play the last 3 holes because the sun had set. There were no rangers/monitors to have players keep up the pace.

Great for Midweek Play

Well maintained course with attentive staff, except on the course. We played mid-week and got an outstanding price from the HOT Deals. We expected the pace of play to be quick, as we were a two-some playing behind another two-some. However, they were behind a very slow four-some. We were waiting at every hole. Our front nine took 2.5 hours. At the turn, the two-some in front of us jumped ahead of the four-some. Then we skipped hole #13 and went ahead of that group. From there it was easy to finish the back nine in under 2 hours. Unfortunately, the pace of play made the golf experience less then good.
I would still recommend the course, but the pace of play needs to be monitored.

Good Value

This is a private course that sometimes allows non-members to play, but only through GolfNow or special advertisements. I am not a member, so it was a treat to play at a reduced rate. The course is longish for the high handicap golfer, but it is rather open - it is not target golf. Several of the par 3s were very long - 211 and 190 yds. It was surprising to me that there were many thin spots in the fairway and that the sand in the bunkers was not deep. The layout was a challenge with many hills and doglegs. But, as always, good friends and a good day make for good golf.
