North at Admiral Baker Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2017Saturday Afternoon Round
Great conditions. Great weather. Tee'd off at 3PM and didn't wait on a single tee box.
Reasonable green fee and great staff.
We'll be back.

Always a great time
I play a couple times a month and Eastlake is always in the rotation of courses. Weather conditions were great. We tee'd off at 7AM on a Saturday. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were perfect.
I found the green side bunker on the first but was able to get up and down to save par. My only complaint if you want to call it that would be there were a couple bunkers throughout that were a bit muddy from some standing water.
Eastlake is tough to beat for the value of conditions. We will continue to be back.
Cottonwood Golf Club - Lakes Course
Played On 02/11/2017Terrible...even for Cottonwood
The day started out great. It's a Saturday. Golf at sunrise. First in first out.
When I checked in I was told that my free round I had been holding on to was no good because of "new ownership" doing away with the Players Club that had been around for a few years.
I wasn't to happy about it but my buddy and I agreed to stay and play Cottonwood since we like to play fast and be the first if not one of the first groups to tee off. Plus we wouldn't have made it to Sycuan before the morning rush.
We paid the overpriced rack rate and headed out. I haven't played Cottonwood is awhile because it was so bad in that past and believe it or not...it's gotten worse. We were the first twosome.
In a nutshell:
The driving range is shut down "until further notice." No starter. The bottles of divot mix were both empty. Teeing ground was set up from yesterday's rounds and chewed up. Empty beer bottles and trash next to every tee box. No kidding, every tee box. The bunkers are either concrete or empty. Greens are full of weeds. Fairways are bare.
I'm not a golf snob. I just love getting out and enjoying a round. I play all over San Diego County about 4 times a month. From budget courses Mission Trails to nicer tracks like Encinitas Ranch and Ram's Hill. These were the worst course conditions I've played, ever. Do not give this place your money. Sycuan has a better rate if you look out for golfnow deals. Steele Canyon is a bit more expensive but for a difference of $20 over this place it's well worth it. When visiting Rancho San Diego, do not even pull into Cottonwood's parking lot. -JP
Club West Golf Club
Played On 11/19/2016Great Experinece
I was in Phoenix for a few days and wanted to get a round in before heading back to San Diego on Saturday.
Let me first say the guys in the pro shop and outside, setting up carts for the day, were excellent. Very accomidating. They allowed me to get my round started early to be able to get back to my hotel for check out.
Bunkers and fairways were great, my only complaint would be the greens at some holes could be better. Other than that everything else was great.
I saw the cart girl twice before my round was over which was impressive considering I started my round in the dark and was playing pretty fast. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely be back to play Club West.

North/East at Oaks North Golf Course
Played On 09/10/2016Always a good round
Great place for beginners and experienced golfer. You'll use every club in your bag. Conditions are always great. Staff is nice. Not super long but longer than a typical executive par 3 like Pine Glen.

Friars/Presidio at Riverwalk Golf Club
Played On 03/30/2015Horrible back 9 conditons
Terrible.
Horrible back nine conditions on Friars. The round started off great on Mission. Pace was great because most early morning players like myself and my group have things to do. We're all trying to have a quick round and get on with the rest of our day.
After we made the turn things went downhill. The fairways on a couple holes on Friars were being aerated and no one told us. We tried to play lift and clean but again, a warning would have been nice. There were mantainance people, ground under repair signs, and huge pools of water and mud on almost every hole.
I used to play the course every Tuesday at sunrise for about 2 years straight. I took a few months off recently and this is what I've come back to. Just awful. I would not recommend this course until they get the place together.
I paid $34 but my party was charged a higher rate when they checked in and was told to come back a speak to someone after the round but I just wanted to get the heck out of there after the conditions forced me to shot 12 over on the back. I will go and play Steele Canyon for a similar rate and better conditions from now on.

Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch
Played On 03/08/2015Fantastic Course
Fantastic course. My buddies and I try to get out every other Monday morning close to sunrise to play. It's either Sycuan or Steele. You can't go wrong with either. Lately we've been playing Steele more because of the rate. It's an unbelievable value. Canyon plays harder for me but with three 9's, it is definitely a great place for all abilities.
The guys in the pro shop, marshals and the starters are always accommodating.
Weekends can get crazy. I played for the first time in the afternoon this past Sunday. Never again. It was a bloodbath. I was late for my time and there were no carts so I was kindly driven to the second hole by the marshal to meet the rest of the players in my time slot.
Slow day. We waited at every hole for 15 minutes not because people were playing slow just from being backed up by 2 groups at each tee box. No exaggeration. I stopped at the turn and called it a day.
Still love the course, but you'll never catch me there on a Sunday again.
Reminder to all...SC can be tough so tee it up at the correct box for your level of play.
