Reston National Golf Course
Played On 12/31/2021Course renovations/maintenance needed to justify cost
Reston National has a good layout but unfortunately although the greens are in decent but bumpy shape for end of December golf, too many essential green-side and fairway bunkers are just dirt and clay. Easy to say just ignore them but they are an essential part of course design.
Pace was fine, clubhouse renovation is nice, and staff were friendly enough.
Fairways are in decent shape but not nearly in the level of shape of Twin Lakes courses (both) and the cart paths are in terrible shape (roots along with old carts creating a ridiculous bumpy ride).
The rough is sparse and inconsistent and the worst I've seen in the area.
Bottom Line: This is a very poor value for the money - go play Twin Lakes or even Herndon Centennial with far better conditions at much less $.
Bristow Manor Golf Club
Played On 04/10/20215:20 hr round???
Absolutely no player management or organization!
2 groups waiting on 2nd tee box, 3 groups by 3rd tee box. 2hrs to play first 6 holes??? Marshall driving back and forth complaining about golfers complaining and telling us one tee box has 4 groups on the tee box. Can’t imagine how much slower it would’ve been it was cart path only.
Some greens were rolled other bumpy. Some greens hard as pool tables and others soft. Greens use bunkers have different sand or dirt.
DO NOT PLAY UNLESS YOU WANT A 5.5hr ish round of golf.
Whiskey Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2021Great layout, aerated greens healing, and strong management of pace.
Mid morning weekend afternoon and they are on point with tee times running sharp and on pace. Marshall is clearly a golfer and managing pace that started off slow then caught up to finish in 4:10.
Course is coming around nicely with greens a little bumpy but with some rain and maintenance should be great (as usual) by mid-April.
With a great layout and great management, the high price is worth it.
Reston National Golf Course
Played On 10/17/2020Good course for the money
Played 9:20am on a Saturday 2hrs front 9 2:45 back 9. no Marshall’s and they don’t wipe dew off greens in the am-even after 9,10am,etc
Course is coming back although bunkers are dirt and clay mostly. Greens are rolling ok although lots of pitch marks.
P.B. Dye Golf Club
Played On 08/19/2017Good conditions but SLOW play!
If you've played PB Dye you know it's a tough course. The Gold tees which are 6374 are challenging including a 196 yard par 3 that was playing into the wind with a back pin stretching it out to 218 yds according to my Bushnell. Back to back par 4s that are out 430+ yds on what is a tough front 9.
Throw in cart path only and Marshalls that drive around but don't actually make any comments on slow play and you have a 5 hour 15 minute round with an 8am Sat am tee time. Our group was waiting on every tee box and fairways.
If you don't care about pace of play and what a challenging course, this could be for you. The greens and fairways were in very good shape.
Whiskey Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2017Great course and great on course pace management!
An early holiday am round of golf as a foursome and we tee off on time. 4-5 holes in and we're waiting 2-3 minutes to tee off and the pace slows down to about a 5 1/2 hr round.
Marshall stops by a couple of times to tell us he's monitoring the situation then by the 7th hole, it opens up and we're moving along without a group in front of us. Marshall stops by and tells us after several warnings, he asked the group to skip 2 holes! We finished in just under 4 1/2 hours thanks to the Marshall doing his job. I was amazed and impressed and put Whiskey Creek at the top of the list for managing pace. Having played a dozen times over the past year, this is one of the only courses that proactively manages pace.
As always, their course conditions are among the best and the layout is challenging but fair.
Whiskey Creek Golf Club
Played On 3/24/2013Only complaint was that the course was not marked nor discounted for aerated greens.
great layout and the staff is very professional and friendly. food (burgers) is excellent. pace of play for a weekend morning tee time was 4 hours (cart path only!).
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We apologize that you didn't enjoy your experience with us and that the pace of play was slow during your round. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back at Bristow Manor Golf Club!
