Excellent

Played here for the first time today, superb course, very well looked after and a real challenge despite the short yardage.
Will probably have to book a buggy next time as it's quite a challenge if you're not physically fit !
Very friendly welcome in the clubhouse and bar was well stocked. Will definitely return sooner rather than later.

Unfriendly welcome

Been here a few times before and always enjoyed it, unfortunately it was soured this visit by a very unwelcoming man in the pro shop.
We barely had one foot through the door and he moaned at me for having trainers on (we were just signing in and making sure there were no issues with the booking before unpacking all of our kit out of the car) and then bizarely demanded one of our group tuck his jumper into his trousers ??!!
We got the distinct impression we were being looked down on just for being a 'golf now group'.
We enjoyed our round regardless despite the course not being in great condition, we also enjoyed a beer afterwards at a local pub, after remembering the attitude in the pro shop earlier, we assumed we weren't welcome in the clubhouse as "non members" and spent our money elsewhere.
Sadly I think this will be out last trip here.

Enjoyable

First time playing at collingtree for a few years, was surprised to see the old club house and driving range is now a housing estate !
The course was playing firm and fast, the fairways were very baked out but the greens were still in excellent condition.
The bad points were a temporary tee on the 10th which was literally a patch of dirt in the rough under some trees ! There was a mat which would've been preferable but it wasn't in use for some reason ? I was also shocked by the new 17th hole, teeing off from an artificial grass tee box ? I would've expected something a lot better from a previous European tour venue. Bad points aside it was a very enjoyable day with friendly staff and very good greens. Will probably return but only on a 'hot deal' price.

Disappointing

Played at Silverstone lots over the last couple of years and always enjoy it. I appreciate its early in the season but the greens were probably the worst I've ever played on, and I've played on some bad greens ! Really severe damage, bald muddy patches everywhere and impossible to get the ball to roll without jumping all over the place made scoring fairly redundant.
To still charge full price and for the pro shop to not even mention the conditions when signing in was pretty poor.
We will be back but I think we'll be leaving it a few months this time.

Second time lucky (kind of)

Played here for the second time, first time round we had to give up after the 10th due to slow play (nearly 4 hours for 10 holes)
Booked a twilight hoping the course would be a bit quieter. It was and I was actually able to get all 18 holes in this time.
Unfortunately, again, slow play kind of spoiled the experience, 4 older gentlemen refusing to let anyone play through and holding up the last few groups out on the course.
Despite a couple of signs up reminding people to avoid slow play they're clearly not having much of an effect.
it seems like it's the members that let st.neots down. Real shame as It's a very nice course and the greens are excellent.
I would love to play here regularly as it's only 15 minutes away, but due to the attitude of certain members it's highly unlikely, the same reason applies why I couldn't recommend the place to a friend.

Great experience

Played here recently for the first time as a one ball after reading the positive reviews. The golf pro in the shop was very welcoming and helpful. Played the first 2 holes and caught up with a 3 ball who kindly asked me to join them. It turned out it was the club captain and vice captain ! They couldn't have been nicer. The guys really helped me as a first timer at the course, giving advice on where to aim and how to play the 'blind tee shot' holes.
The course was excellent, not long but not easy, lots to think about from the tee with well positioned hazards. Greens were a little slow but they were due to be cut the following day.
If the course was a little closer to my house, I probably would've enquired about membership !
I'll certainly be returning at some point in the near future and would have no issue recommending ramsey to a friend.

Firm and fast !

Played colmworth a few times now as I'm fairly local. it's a nice course with a couple of nice holes, not very hilly so quite an easy walk round.
The bunkers are never in good shape at colmworth. Very inconsistent levels of sand, some are deep and some are bare making it very difficult to judge your shot precisely. The greens are also in desperate need of some water, they are rock hard ! Whilst this makes them quite fast to putt on, it requures you to hit one or 2 clubs less into the greens and pray for a kind bounce. If you try to attack pins with a wedge you'll be over the back of the green pretty much every time.
If links style golf suits you, you'll enjoy your round here.
Friendly welcome in the clubhouse as always.

Take cover !

First time playing at Weston turville, decided to try it after reading lots of positive reviews.
We did enjoy the course, the greens were good, lots of quirky holes and a good bit of variety. The main negatives are that's the course is far too cramped, lots of waiting for other groups to tee off back across greens and fairways from the previous holes, it's just bizzare, it's like they have squeezed in an 18 hole course when there was only room for 12 holes.
The signage between holes is also pretty much non existent, we had to keep a close eye on the group in front otherwise we wouldnt have had a clue where to go on a few holes.
Our main problem was that we were almost hit on several holes from errant golf shots, we did see one player get hit by a golf ball which was hit from the group in front of us, luckily he was unhurt.
Maybe it was just busy for a Saturday afternoon but it seems like this is the norm, it felt like trying to play golf on a driving range !
I think if we ever came back we would wear hard hats rather than golf hats...

Ok but not great

Played here based on other reviews on golf now, unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the first 13 or so holes, all largely forgettable, 14, 15 and 16 are nice holes and use the landscape well though.
I would say the course is generally quite boring, far too many long, straight, featureless par 4s. It's nice to have some variation in a round to keep you interested, there just wasn't enough of it at rye hill.
The greens and fairways were in quite good condition but the bunkers were a mess, due to the rakes all being removed this wasn't a surprise but some had 6 inch long weeds growing in the bottom of them and virtually no sand, the ones that did have sand in were littered with stones.
I can't comment on the clubhouse etc as it was all closed due to the coronavirus.
It was nice to be out on the course after the recent lockdown, the weather was perfect and the price was great on a 'hot deal' however, we won't be rushing back to rye hill anytime soon.

Painful....

First time playing here, the lady in the shop was very friendly and helpful, I asked if the course was busy and she said it wasn’t too bad.....hmmmmmm !
The 3 ball on the first tee asked me to play through them straight away which was very good of them. Unfortunately I needn’t have bothered as I caught up with the next group after 2 holes and hit the backlog on the course. There were 3 groups on EVERY hole.
I eventually finished the first 10 holes in 2 hours 45 minutes ! (Normally I would expect to get round 18 in 2 hours / 2 hours 30 minutes as a one ball).
I would anticipate this pace of play on a weekend In the summertime but on a Friday Morning at the end of November ?! As I had to collect my kids from school at 3pm, I couldn’t risk going any further than the 10th (and I had pretty much lost the will to live by then anyway).
I would like to complete 18 here one day as the course was fairly good (albeit a bit wet due to recent rainfall) but I’m not sure I could face enduring a 5 hour round...

Very very slow....

Normally enjoy it here but we got stuck behind a 4 ball who were more concerned with drinking beer and doing handbrake turns in the buggies than playing golf. 5 hour round that felt like it would never end.
Lack of ball washers on the tees a constant negative but the course was in fairly good shape.

First timer

After reading lots of positive reviews on here I decided to book a twilight round. I couldnt really see how the course warrants such a high rating, the first 6 or 7 holes are fairly dull straight up and back, the only hole that particularly stood out on the whole course was the 12th.
Greens were rock solid but very slow to putt on, the grass looks like it hadn’t been cut in a few days. Tee boxes were caked in topsoil and what looked like wood chippings, the bunkers were very poorly edged with no real definition. Lack of ball washers with only 2 or 3 on the whole course.
With the price being charged at £18 for a twilight it’s very poor value. Other courses within 2-3 miles are much cheaper, much better maintained and much more of a challenge.
Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon.

Slow Saturday

Turned up at the course to be told tee off times had double booked the tee time and joined our 2 ball with another 2 ball, the guy in the pro shop was very helpful and kept us as separate 2 balls.
Unfortunately it didn’t matter much as we were all stuck behind a society 4 ball that we couldn’t play through. A 2 ball round of golf took us 4.5 hours. The 10 minute wait on EVERY tee box was fairly soul destroying !
Course was generally in good condition for the time of year, couple of patchy greens but nothing major.

Enjoyable, but.....

Played this course for the first time after seeing the great reviews on tee off times. Turned up half hour early and the chap in the pro shop said we could go straight out as it was quiet. We were very Impressed with the layout of the course, it really makes you manage your tee shots as there are quite a few blind shots. (Hit lots of fairway woods and very few drivers). Holes 13 - 17 really stood out, they look like they would be at home at Woburn or Wentworth ! The 18th was a bit of a let down as a finishing hole but the rest of the course made up for it. The greens were also in excellent condition, not overly fast but ran true.
Now for the but... unfortunately the fairways on all 18 holes were abysmal. I’ve been playing golf for 30+ years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such patchy, muddy, neglected fairways. I understand we had a summer heatwave a few weeks back but other local courses seem to be fine and perfectly playable. It was such a shame as the layout of the course is great.
I would personally like to give it another chance but I would be hard pressed to recommend it to a friend in its current state.

Enjoyable round

Played here many times before and always enjoy it. We played our first round of the season here, the course was in good condition generally but considering the recent weather it was a bit boggy in places. Greens were very good for early Feb.
Pace of play was fairly slow going due to a number of society groups in front of us - a usual 3 hour round took 4 hours, waiting on every tee box in 2 degree temperatures didn't do much for morale !
That aside we did enjoy it and will definitely be back for more In the spring summer and autumn !
I know this has been said a lot on here but PLEASE put some ball washers by the tee boxes, for such a small thing it really lets the course down.

Enjoyable

Played this course for the first time in around 12-15 years in early December.
The welcome from a young girl in the pro shop wasn't particularly warm but courteous nonetheless.

The practice area is excellent, you can choose to play from mats in undercover range bays or from a grassy area outside. I haven't found this at many courses so it was nice to hit a few from the grass before going out.
We were pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course for the time of year, greens were generally very good as were the fairways. Ball washers and towels on every hole is always a welcome addition.
The course layout was nice if lacking a little bit of variety, there are a few tough holes (a few fairly long par 4s) but generally a good test of golf.

The bar staff were very polite and friendly in the 19th. The bar area is small but fairly well stocked.

An enjoyable day overall, a really nice, well maintained course just lacking a bit of wow factor for me, that being said, I would look to come back for another round in slightly warmer weather !

Nice course

Played this course during 'storm brian' It made it a bit tougher than usual with 40-50mph winds !! The greens were in very good condition for the time of year, rolled fast and true. The only negatives were a lack of ball washers on some holes, the flags weren't a consistent colour (we had red, yellow and white flags on the front and back 9) this could have been a bit confusing if you were unfamiliar with the course layout. The range had also ran out of balls so I was unable to have a proper warm up which was a bit poor for a Saturday lunchtime.
Facilities are generally good but a bit dated / tired looking in places, I think the decor was the same as when I last played here around 15 years ago ! Enjoyable trip nonetheless though and I would recommend it.

Nice place

The course was quite unique, as a first timer some of the blind tee shots were a bit hit and hope, the course planner helped somewhat with this though.
Played in early October and the greens were in great condition.
Some really nice holes, some really quirky holes and some fairly average.
lack of ballwashers / towels on most tee boxes was disappointing considering the price of a normal round.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
