It’s a Par 3 layout

and definitely worth playing. Kudos to the course designers.
The layout was fun and it was hard to miss a green, as they are large, undulating and fast.
There is a premium on getting the ball in the right section of the green so that it feeds to the cup for a realistic change at birdie. It was a windy day, so everything played longer/shorter from the tips. Took a cart but next time will walk. Great little course for beginners and those seeking to improve their short games.
Several signature holes with water and nice vistas.
Take a 3 wood as the back nine has 2 long holes over 230 yards, which allows the course to have a rating.
It will be interesting to play this again after all the real estate has been built out.
After golf food and service was excellent.

tough but fair

with lots of forced carry second shots. huge greens, which i prefer, but some severe undulations.
played this and Tower on a package deal and think this is the best track.
adequate practice range...small chipping and putting area ( this always seems to be an afterthought in golf architecture). Cabin course was dryer and played fast while Tower course was too wet, hence no carry.
Both courses have nice scenic vistas and shot values.
On course amenities truck was nice and staff were friendly. Ate dinner in the grill and it was just ok. Was expecting a better dinning experience.
At 7000 feet, the high country was a nice change from the valley summer temperatures.

Very nice course

for a Public facility. It is a pretty straight forward layout which can play long depending on tee. Fairways are contoured to run off on the sides, so keeping in the middle is important. Unfortunately,, the greens, whilst large, suffer from Poa
and are spotty and bumpy - they will need resurfacing soon.
Nice practice range but green was under repair. Nice after golf facility and friendly staff.
Great views and several fun Par 3’s.
I will play this track again and the adjoining Victory course when next in town.

are they bent grass?

have played Talon and was expecting similar conditions on Raptor. i am a Fazio fan but think this track
is a bit over bunkered ( they are deep) and the greens have too many severe undulations( think Weiskoff).
having putted on the pure practice green i was expecting the course to be the same - however, most greens were lumpy and bumpy ( V-cut perhaps) and did not roll true - so that was a disappointment - i play on bent several times a week and don’t think these greens are bent.
would say the front 9 was better then the back and that it is a test of golf so choose your tee box wisely.
it will be interesting to see what the ‘pro’ college ametuers shoot when NCCA plays it in 2020.
all things considered, it is worth playing but bring ear plugs if you like silence while you warm up.
the cart girl was very friendly.

its a resort course

for a beginner to intermediate it would be an ok place to play and its sad that someone below paid $200 to play it as its not worth that amount.
played in an organized event so course set up, as expected , was tough with hard to reach pins.
practice facility was adequate, not great. course condition was ok but not well manicured and a bit over watered.
the greens were trampoline tiff ( not a fan) so there were no ball marks but they were not pure and were very spotty and distressed in a lot of areas. greens had a lot of undulation and they tended to be small which required second shot precision. bunkers were perhaps the best part of the course.
cart girl was nice but grill had closed before round was finished....which was odd.
if you stay there play it. if its on your must play list- good luck.

worth playing

Played an amateur sanctioned event.
Practice facility was good. However, due to limited space, special low compression balls are used on the range
to mitigate distance. Range is for warming up only.
The course is all Bermuda grass which is kept in very good shape. Fairways are wide open, however several holes
require some layup thought as there is a small creek that gerrymanders throughout the course.
Bunkers were to my liking. The greens varied in shape quite a bit, with some undulation on each one. The surface was
very good to putt on however, some of the greens “ hour glass” shapes made for strange pin positions.
All things considered it is a good track for a beginner or average golfer.
Clubhouse seemed nice ( didn’t have time to fully explore it) and the food was very good value with friendly staff.
If i had to change one thing - i would utilize electric carts.

Enjoyable round

Played in a tournament and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem hidden in the Prescott hills.
Beautifully conditioned course with excellent bent grass greens. The greens were very large( which I like) for the most part but fair - very puttable without a lot of unnecessary undulation.
For the most part I am not a Weiskoff design fan - but he got this track right.
Some very pretty vistas with nice shot values.
Beware when the wind picks up, the course plays much longer and becomes much tighter off the tee.
Would strongly consider joining this club if I lived in the area.
If you have the chance - go play it.

Course has potential.

Just about everything that a fellow reviewer wrote below sums up my experience. See “hogans fundamentals” below.
Very soggy wet course where mud balls are common - so play lift, clean and place.
Have played it several times ( previously reviewed) and currently the course has regressed and suffers from lack of TLC.
But, it is a Resort course ( not championship caliber), so can be played by all handicap levels.
If I had to choose, Oakcreek, which is just up the street, is better.
On a positive note, the cart lady was great and the all the staff are friendly.

Tiffeagle greens are an aquired taste

Played in an organized tournament so expected tough conditions and pin locations.
Fairways were suffering from burn out - very patchy with mud and the greens are very small round targets - ala Nicklaus design ( even though it was not his work).
If you hit the green with approach shots, for most of the round they did not hold and not a ball mark to be found.
Safe to say, even though putts rolled well, I am not a fan of tiffeagle.
There were several water holes with nice vistas and shot values.
GPS on carts were out of synch with laser shots.
Have played the adjacent Ambiente course and think it is the better of the two.

Course was in excellent

condition. The layout was very interesting considering it is in the middle of no-where.
Staff was very friendly and gave good advice on tee selection.
Our group played early so there was a bit of dew on the course, so yardage carry was important.
Only negatives were a constant cow dung smell that seemed to hang in the air for 8 holes ( i didn’t see any cows) and then
for remaining holes huge horse flies seemed to appear as it got warmer.
Both distractions, but manageable- I would play it again.

Worth playing

... just to experience the back 9.
The place has the look and feel of a muni. Front 9 was ho-hum but the red cliff back 9 saves the course. Conditioning was
fair but could be much better. When I saw the ATV rental kiosk on the drive up the lane to the course, I thought a planned peaceful golf outting would be shattered by noise, but thankfully no one was using them - so it was peaceful.
The course could be so much more of a destination if the owners put the emphasis ($$) in right places.
On a windy day - bring balls!

The Lava field

.... is awesome. Rocks go from red clay on the front to black lava on the back. The course conditions were very good, as expected from a private club. Landing areas from tee box were generous but Johnny Miller put in smallish greens ( ala Nicklaus) with requisite undulations, which made for an exacting second shot.
The course, played from the back tees, should be rated at a higher slope then shown on the card.
For the record, I prefer larger greens.
As a guest of the Inn, it was worth playing and enjoying the club house food.

2 nd time

playing the course from blue tees. it had been awhile since playing it and was looking forward to the return trip. but, big surprise - it did not live up to the expectations created by my first time playing or the other current reviews.
pratice facility was basic, but you could not warm up the driver - a club that you need more then any other for this track.
the carts did not have club/ball washer - the guy said it was a nuisance to maintain - did i mention the red clay ?
Yes, the views are fantastic but course conditions were poor. greens had not recovered from punching and were inconsistent and slow. fairways were patchy and thin. tee boxes were chewed up and unlevel. still, i managed a pretty decent round.
the course ranger was best part of the round - nice guy.
a must play course - but definately overrated with all the accolades.

Dear RelJ,
Thank you for your comments. I am guessing when you mention it didn't live up to your expectations has nothing to do with the range or the club washers because they haven't changed from your first visit.
Typically in the summer time with 100 degree plus temps the course is good but not in pristine condition. We recognize this and set the rates appropriately at this time. Perhaps you can visit us in peak season when I am sure you will find the course in amazing shape.

3 stars seriously? If you judge courses on driving ranges and ball washers then you should stop reviewing golf courses and skewing the ratings.

3rd time playing

and still a great vista course with great shot values. greens had been punched recently ( would have given it 5 stars) but they
still rolled nice. lots of memorable holes. terrific practice facilities and very nice clubhouse, which is being renovated with new spaces- sure to take it to the next level. half way huts were mini cottages, stocked with everything you would want - very nice.
Fazio was definately an artist in painting this track in amongst the rolling rocks - superb !
oh ya- the staff - very friendly and professional.
play this course, if given the chance.

excellent conditioned course - well worth the drive.
nice practice range but could use a larger chipping area and perhaps a larger putting
green or two.
our group ( all low or mid h'cap golfers) thought the back 9 was better then the front.
the greens are undulating, firm and fast lending themselves to tough pin placements. we all felt that
the back 9 greens were fairer then the front because they were larger and didn't repell a decent shot.
the greens definitely protect the course but they are beautiful to putt on.
one negative - the yardage book doesn't show the size of the green or the undulations and there
is no pinsheet. so hitting into several 'unseen' greens are just a guess.
having said that - we will play it again.

Great views all around

unlike the first reviewer our group played from the 2nd set of tees-6850 yds- was enough test, especially into the wind which blows on a daily basis.
the facility:
very nice but still under construction. take advantage of the freebies on first tee.
the staff:
excellent and professional. a forecaddie is a must the first time around.
the practice area:
hitting balls towards the ocean- nice view.
decent little putting green but did not see a practice chipping or bunker area.
the course:
wide open fairways, with a variety of lies. second shots are varied to up hill or down hill greens.
the greens are still young( year old) but for most part hold chip shots well.
Tiger does need to make changes to the greens on # 12 and # 15. Neither green holds a ball especially in windy conditions- they need to be softened. Tip - putts TOWARDS the ocean are fast!
Overall-- I would play it again even with the stiff greens fee.
