Twisted Dune Golf Club
Played On 11/02/2014It's a beauty!
Loved the course, very interesting layout. It's not a course where you won't see the hole next to you, which can be a turn-off if someone is hitting into the other fairway a lot. There were only two other people on the whole course when we played (45 degrees, 30 mph winds), but we had a great time.
Vineyard National Golf Course
Played On 10/25/2014Tons of interesting holes
No driving range, which is a bummer for me. But I love the layout here and you walk away remembering so many holes.
Very generous fairways, the difficultly is definitely in the approach shots.
White Oaks Country Club
Played On 10/12/2014Plays short, but interesting
Good variety of holes, some very good. It is a short course though, and you might not hit a driver but once or twice the whole round.
No driving range kills me... It's in the middle of no where. How does this place not have a range?!?
Brandywine Country Club
Played On 09/02/2014Nice, not excellent
The day we went, there was absolutely no one in the parking lot. We thought we had gone to the wrong place or booked the tee time on the wrong day. However, there was just absolutely no one playing that day (Tuesday morning) and we played in under 3 hours.
The course is nice, and you can see they have high quality grass and stuff. Some spots looked pristine, and others looked like it had had an awful lot of play. The greens rolled nice though.
I enjoyed the course just fine, although I wouldn't pay the regular price for it. I thought the golfnow price was about what it should have been charging.
White/Red at Ramblewood Country Club
Played On 08/30/2014Nothing fancy, but nice enough
There are no holes that will leave a lasting impression on you, but the course is nice enough and convenient. The blue course is tighter and more interesting than the other two.
The Links Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2014Decent course for the money
Decent, but don't be fooled by the previous Private course status, it's a moderately nice public course. Playing from the middle tees is closer to playing from the front tees than I would prefer, so don't immediately jump to the white tees without taking a look at the scorecard yardages to get a good idea of how long of a course you want to play.
I lost a wedge there and wanted someone in the pro shop to take my # in case it got returned, and they told me to just call back the next day instead. That was disappointing, but no one was rude or anything.
Princeton Country Club
Played On 08/05/2014Very short course
First time playing Princeton. People were very nice, but the course wasn't terribly interesting. It was extremely short. If you're even a moderately long player, you don't need to hit anything more than an iron off the tee of every par 4. Also there were some odd dog legs that require you have a GPS or at least some local course knowledge.
I wasn't a fan, but this would be a really fun course for a short, straight hitter. Also would be great for walking.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - East Course
Played On 07/28/2014Loved it
I played the East course, which I understand is the links style course, as compared to the target golf styled West course. I really enjoyed it and thought the course was interesting (fairways were slightly rough in a couple of spots, but barely worth mentioning).
Pace of play was just ok. We were a foursome, and got through in 4 hours and 20 minutes, but somehow seemed to be waiting on every shot. It wasn't bad, but there didn't seem to be anyone monitoring it either.
I really enjoyed the course and will definitely be back!
Mountain View Golf Course
Played On 07/26/2014Good, but not memorable
For the price, it's about as good as you're going to get. However, the back nine holes seemed to get a little monotonous, and there really weren't many memorable holes.
That said, it was pretty well maintained and the pace of play was nice. Would definitely recommend!
Edgmont Country Club
Played On 07/18/2014Short, but fun
Fun little course, not terribly difficult. Greens were true, but quite a bit slower than you'd imagine. Pretty scenery with the course sort of running through some mountains.
It was a bit of a ride for me, so I'm not sure I'd make it back (definitely not at full price), but if you're close by, it's a fun course to play.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 07/13/2014Great experience
Really loved my experience here. It's clear they pay very close attention to the pace of play, spacing out the tee times and utilizing all 3 nines. Saw the beer cart girl often.
You don't need to hit driver very often, but it's a challenging second shot course if you're not hitting irons on line.
Freeway Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2014Painfully Slow
Showed up early before the round to warm up, but the range was closed. Annoying, but stretched out and got started...
We were a twosome and headed to the tee box. There was another twosome waiting on the tee box, waiting for a comically bad foursome on the first hole. It was clear right there that it was going to be a long day, so we introduced ourselves, but the twosome were grumpy and didn't want to join. I wouldn't blame that on the course, except that there absolutely should have been a starter there.
Also there was no ranger monitoring the pace of play. It was the slowest, most torturous round I ever played. After 4.5 hours, we had finished 12 holes. We just up and left since there were three groups on the 13th tee.
Even if it was free, this course isn't a good value.
Ron Jaworski's Valleybrook Country Club
Played On 06/22/2014Second shot course
Nice course, with some interesting holes and some very, very bland holes (especially the disappointing 18th). Really wish they'd switch the front 9 to the back and vice versa. Decent enough practice area. It was very crowded, but moved along nicely enough.
Rancocas Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2014Over 6 Hour Round!
They. Ran. Out. Of. Carts. Seriously, when I got there, I had to walk to the range and was told to walk back to the clubhouse before my tee time to get a cart.
I was a single, and watched the starter send off a threesome (at my tee time) while telling me that 3 foursomes were ahead of me... no idea why that made sense in his head, but ok. I walked back to the clubhouse and 12 people were standing there waiting for carts.
I asked to get a refund so I could go play a course that had capacity for me. Well at that point, it was decided it made more sense to join me up with a group. The group they joined me with were SHARING a set of 1960's era blades...
The round took over 6 hours and was the most frustrating event of my golfing life.
Indian Spring Golf Club
Played On 05/18/2014Good, cheap course
Difficult for a first time player to know where to hit the ball, as there are a few doglegs and such, but no pictures on the scorecards or on the hole markers. It's maintained well enough for the price. Slightly annoying that the driving range is separate from the course (only half a mile away, but still, you need to get in your car and drive over there and then back).
Wedgwood Country Club
Played On 05/11/2014Well maintained, no noteworthy holes
Played on Sunday at 7:30, pace of play was great, but it was early. The course is very well maintained with perfect greens, but the design is a bit boring. Some holes just seem like a green at the end of a large field that happens to have a fairway in it. Profoundly boring 18th hole. No driving range.
Woodcrest Country Club
Played On 7/15/2013When it's good, it's great, but it's bad in spots.
Playing there was awkward. We dropped out bags off, but there was no clear indication of where to go. The front doors to the clubhouse were all closed. We walked all the way around the clubhouse before we found the pro shop. There was a bucket on the counter to catch the leaking water
The driving range was hitting off of ratty mats and there's not enough room to hit drivers.
The course is very interesting with a good array of different holes. But there are no signs on any of the holes or distance markers. It's pretty easy to get lost.
Where the fairways and greens are green, they're great. But there are a LOT of brown areas where there is absolutely no grass whatsoever
In summary, it's a nice, interesting layout, but with lots of areas that need to be fixed.
Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 6/29/2013Very challening, interesting layout
This course has a lot of different kinds of holes, and the statement that you'll use every club in your bag is definitely accurate. Wide fairways and big greens make the course accessible, but the punishment for a mis-hit ball is severe.
The course does not drain well though, and the wide fairways make playing the course during "cart path only" a burden, so my recommendation would be to play when you know the weather has been nice for the past few days.
There were a LOT of ball marks on the greens, which is a shame for a course otherwise so well maintained.
Despite vast areas of empty space all around, there is no driving range. So make sure you hit some balls before you get there, or else that first drive can be intimidating with no warm up.
Scotland Run Golf Club
Played On 6/23/2013Some great holes here
This is the most interesting public course in the south Jersey area. There might be better maintained courses out there, but the layout of this course is great. Pace of play is perfect, and the staff there was great. I love playing at Scotland Run.
Cobb's Creek Golf Club - Olde Course
Played On 6/23/2013Gimmicky, with very poor conditions
This facility has two courses, and admittedly I played what was obviously the lesser of the courses (Karakung course).
Pros:
Priced appropriately
Cons:
-Many of the tee boxes had no grass on them, and there was no discernible difference between the fairway and rough.
-No ranger, or anyone monitoring pace of play.
-Almost all players on this course were beginner players with little to no idea about golf etiquette, or pace of play.
-Because of the tightness of the course and the skill of the golfers who choose the Karakung course, many balls were hit in our vicinity with no warnings.
