Rancho Bernardo Inn
Played On 04/20/2016A Favourite in SD County
This course is a regular stop for my wife and I and very playable for both of us(my hdcp is 2; her's is 36).
We did play there on April 5 as well, but they had aerated 10 days before so the greens were almost back to normal on April 20.
Can't say enough about the staff and facilities. Pace of plat is always good unless you get behind a tournament which they do have each week, but just check b4 you book.
The Golf Club of California
Played On 04/19/2016Great Layout
I played at 2:00 pm on a Thursday and the course was not busy. Tees and greens were very good. The fairways had been punched recently and were quite rough, but playable.
A championship layout with elevation changes, great bunking doglegs etc. Not recommended for the high handicapper.
A cart is a must with some long and confusing trips from green to tee.
I paid $23.00 on a Hot Deal twilight rate and it was excellent value for this price.
The course is a minimalist, sustainable course for water conservation so do not expect a lush green venue.
Twin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 04/15/2016Great Condition and Value
Another favourite for my wife and I and playable for both of us (my hdcp. 2, her's 36).
The greens here are some of the best we play in SD County and were aerated in early March so they are back to full speed and smoothness. On this day they were running a 10 Stimp, but we played on March 30 and they were 11.5.
Lots of elevation change so a cart is preferred.
Only a snack bar so plan dinner elsewhere.
Maderas Golf Club
Played On 04/13/2015Challenging Course
Tough golf course for anyone not experienced. Demanding tee shots, large tricky greens, lots of length. I played the blue tees at 6670 yards and shot 78 off a three hdcp. and felt I played quite well.
Greens had been punched two weeks ago so they were running about 9.0 and a bit bumpy.
If they cut them downto 11.0 - 12.0, add four strokes to my score.
Not a course for a novice but a test for an experienced golfer.
Twin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 04/10/2015Worth a Visit
My wife (35 hdcp) and I (3 hdcp) played Red and Blue tees. I found the greens, tees and bunkers in excellent conditions. The fairways were not as good or well manicured, but quite acceptable.
The course is very fair, not too tight off the tee, but the bunkers are well placed and the greens are tricky so you need to be in position to score. The course is anything but flat which adds to the challenge.
For women, the course plays long at 5400+ and one par 3 has a 100 yard carry. However, my wife did enjoy the course very much and did not find it too difficult.
We were made to feel very welcome and our round took 4:15.
The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course
Played On 10/23/2014Challenging Track
Extremely friendly staff. Course was in fair condition with the greens being pretty rough and slow. Fairways OK, bunkers reasonably good.
Signs ant elevation changes and blind shots. Very challenging for high hdips.
Eagle Vines Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2014Perfect for Napa Golf
Very playable course for all levels. Wide fairways, but bunkers, water and elevation change as well as undulating greens make it a true test. The wind generally is a factor so it is a shotmaking and short game challenge. I am a single digit hdcp. and my wife is a 35 and we both said we would definitely return.
Vineyards surround virtually every hole and the view on the blue/black tee of the island green is spectacular.
We had to set our Garmin to Hole 11 as the have changed the starting hole so you start the first tee on 11 and your 18th is 10. Check with the Pro Shop to see if they have updated the GPS community.
Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort

Very playable, 2nd shot golf course for all levels of golfer. I was a bit worried that it would be too tough for my 35 hncp wife, but she loved it. I am a 2 hdcp and I loved it.
Rancho Bernardo Inn
Played On 04/05/2014The Whole Package
Challenging from the back tees, but still playable for my wife from the Ladies.
Great staff, great food, great pro shop.
Overall, a great deal.
Chula Vista Golf Course
Played On 04/03/2014Price is Right
My wife and I wanted to play an inexpensive warm up course at the beginning of the vacation( snowbirds). At $21 including a cart for a non resident, it is hard to complain about anything. Our round took 5:15, but in fairness, we were behind two tournaments. Course conditions were average for a municipal course with one half of the green punched. The normal portion of the green, I would rate as above average for a muni and quick, 10.5 stimp.
The holes are pretty non descript and a fair test without being punitive. The carts are electric and excellent with auto emerg brake. Staff is excellent and helpful.
I would definitely go back for the same price if the greens were in normal conditions.

Kahili Golf Course
Played On 6/11/2012Great views and challenge for all levels.
Lots of interesting holes, elevation changes, well bunkered, not too tight ,but tough skecond shot course. Wind is always a factor as the tradesk blow thru the course regularly.
