Wild Laurel Golf Course
Played On 05/16/2016Great Experience
I had seen this course pop up on several searches and decided to give it a try. Course wise, the greens were awesome and true. There were some tee boxes that were a little rough and a few of the fairways needed mowed/weed control. These really were minor concerns though. The layout from the white tees wasn't especially long but lots of holes where you have to think instead of grip and rip.
The staff was EXCELLENT. They were the friendliest I have encountered in a long time from the pro shop to the rangers to the cart girls. Add in the views of the mountains and it was a very relaxing, enjoyable round. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone.
Royal Oaks Golf Course & Event Center
Played On 05/08/2016Very Disappointed
Good:
The young man and girl working in the clubhouse were very friendly.
Bad:
- Table in the clubhouse butts right up against the pro shop counter and was filled with cronies who couldn't even be bothered to move a chair so you could check in.
- Purchased 18 holes but because of the ridiculously slow pace of play only completed 9 in the 3 hours and 10 minutes on the course. To be fair, the girl working in the clubhouse did apologize and give me a raincheck for the 9 I didn't get to play.
- Other than the greens, which were flat and straight, the course looked like the cow pasture next to hole #1 including clover everywhere.
- Every other course I have played that is part of a golf/housing development the housing was built around the golf course. Here it seems like the course was jammed inside the houses and they are very close. There were 2 holes where the houses are so close that I could here the conversations going on while on the tee box.
- The carts for this course should be required to be street legal. I have never traveled so much on public roadways to go hole to hole. To get back to the clubhouse from #9 green was literally an 8 minute drive up the main road to the course.
I can't recommend this course to anyone.
Echo Farms Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/10/2013Book With Caution
I booked a tee time at Echo Farms via GolfNow for 11:08. When I arrived at 10:45, the pro shop attendant stated the group I was supposed to be added to showed up with 4 instead of the booked 3 but they would send me off with another group. As I was walking out, the attendant was radioing the starter to help get me out. Unfortunately, this is where things broke down.
The started appeared to be in his late 70's or early 80's and was immediately confused because my last name was similiar to the group I was supposed to be paired up with. After 10 minutes of explaining this, I was told I would be paired up as soon as possible. As I sat that watching for 30 minutes, the starter sent out groups of 2, 3 and then 2 without even acknowledging me. A gentleman came up to me and said the starter was joking with the group of 3 that he had to find a place to put me but wouldn't do that to the members since he had no idea if I was any good.
Enough was enough. Thankfully, the pro shop was willing to refund my fees, minus GolfNow fees, with minimal difficulty.
Price Was Right...
GolfNow had a great Play-Solo rate for this course so I tried it out. Overall, the layout of the course is enjoyable. The best feature was no parallel fairways. Fairways were in very good condition, rough was challenging and the greens were good and fast for this time of year.
The glaring negative was the condition of the tee boxes, particularly on the front 9. On at least 5 of the holes you had to tee off from nothing more than a sand/dirt mixture.
At the price I paid, I would happily play this course again but wouldn't at the full "list" price.
Pinehills at Myrtlewood Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2013Forgotten Course
Myrtlewood isn't a course you normally hear about when talking about Myrtle Beach golf. We were able to arrange a same morning tee time for $31 so we weren't expecting what we found. When pulling up, the gentlemen at the bag drop would actually walk over to your car to help with items. Clubhouse staff was very friendly. The starter asked if we minded being paired up with a single and spent time talking with us about the course while waiting for the group in front of us. About every other hole, a cart came by offering water from a cooler and saw the "cart girl" 3 times during the round.
The course itself was in fantastic condition. Tee box looked like they hadn't been played in weeks, fairways, rough and bunkers were well maintained and then greens were fast and true. It does play long and on a few of the holes the condos hid the wind. I would gladly play this course again.
