Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 12/14/2021Another nice day at Dove Valley!
This is our third time playing Dove Valley. I have to admit that it is not incredibly memorable. We actually forgot that we had played it before (twice):). When we got there it all came back to us. We completely enjoy the course. There is enough challenge. The conditions are good not great. Keep your ball on the fairway as the rough after reseeding is brown and not great. The greens are good. They had rolled them before we played so they were pretty fast - you really had to pay attention to breaks, up vs downhill, and grain or you might miss by a good deal. I personally like this kind of green.
I decided to play all the way back. I think it was a mistake as I was not hitting very straight. This together with the wind made it pretty hard. I should have stuck with the blue - would have saved me a bit of frustration, but all my fault. I think the tee box distances make the course a good challenge for all levels.
We had a drink and appetizers after our round. Happy hour prices made it a good deal.
I am sure we will play there again. I hope that we will not forget again!
Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 04/08/2021Totally enjoyed our round
This was our first time playing the course and we had a great time!
The course is interesting and challenging, but fair. There are some well placed lakes, lots of undulations, a few decently long par 4s, and well placed bunkers. The fairways were in decent shape. You can hit it out of the desert / waste areas. The greens are challenging with lots of undulations of their own. And the bunkers are good (not great, some a bit short on sand).
The staff were nice. The restaurant is well positioned to see hole 18, and has a good amount of outdoor space with shade.
We will play here again.
Hunter Ranch Golf Course
Played On 02/17/2021Mediocre all the way around
We had an enjoyable time on a mediocre course.
I had high hopes. The location in foothills and around a creek was promising. But the course did not deliver.
The layout was interesting, with lots of ups and downs. But there are far too many blind shots, steep slopes, trees too close to the center and greens. A course should reward a good shot and penalize a bad one. There are too many times when a good shot ended up in a bad spot (eg. Hole 10, 270 to the creek, hit a decent shot, Cauchy the downhill and in the rough right before the creek - I hit drives maybe 240).
The fairways are not in good shape. The rough is a disaster. Tire tracks. Large dead spots. Holes and ruts. Uneven grass. As bad as I have seen.
A bright spot was the greens. They were in good shape. rolled true and with good speed.
The clubhouse was ok. The calendar to were nice. The restaurant / bar seems good (hard to tell during COVID-19).
Best part ware the views!
Coldwater Golf Club
Played On 01/16/2021Fun round of golf on a decent course
This is the first time I have played the course. Overall - we had a good round.
What I like about the course is the layout, greens and pace of play. The layout is good and challenging! Some long holes (played the back), fairways were ok. Good grass mixed with areas they were pretty bare. The greens roll nice. And are fast The pin placement was on the tough side. We played es our round in less than 3 hours!
There are a number of things that I did not care for. There is an incredible number of waste dirt areas around the holes. It is pretty ugly and not a lot of fun to play out of. The pin placements were too hard. They were often right off the front of the green. And the cart woman
I will continue to monitor this thread
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 01/13/2021Fun round
Lookout Mountain is a fun course and a good challenge. The layout, other than a stupid hole 9, is interesting. There are good carries, well placed hazards and good - fast greens.
Not amazing but a good challenging course.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 12/09/2020Great views, great people, fun course
This is the fourth time that we have played Rancho Manana. It is my wife's favorite course. The views are great. The staff is friendly. The facilities are great. The course is a bit short and there are some kind of funky holes, but that is a big part of the charm. You have to hit it pretty straight to score well. The greens roll pretty well but are a bit worn.
The practice area is medocre. There is not all that much room, so they do a good job with what they have. The chipping area is nice and there is a big putting green near the first tee.
The people at the course and in the restaurant are all really nice, especially the woman that works in the snack building between #1 and #11. Great Bloody Mary's!
We will keep coming back!
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 12/06/2020Fun course with some challenging holes
We enjoyed playing the Starfire "The King" course. We started a bit late because of a frost delay. Good communication from the staff on what was happening.
The play started off slow. The marshalls must have talked to the group in front of the group in front of us. After about 3 holes, things sped up.
The course is a bit tight, but fun. The par 3's are challenging. A number of them are over water or an island green. There is some other well placed water on other holes as well - making them challenging. Most holes have an area to bail out, making the course pretty playable.
I liked the course enough to play again.
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 12/04/2020Good course, some funky holes, nice people
We had an enjoyable round.
The staff are nice, the pace of play was good, the course layout was good but has some funky holes, the greens are nice, but pin placement was overly aggressive (e.g. too close to the front with no place to land your shot).
There are some really amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
I would play it again.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 11/30/2020Fun and challenging course in an unusual locaton
This is the third time playing the course - which says a lot. The course is fun and challenging, in an unusual location. It is a part of the overflow drainage system in Scottsdale. When there are flash floods, it takes on a lot of the water then drains away quickly. What this means is that it has been built in a challenging location, but the course designers did a good job of making the holes interesting, pretty, and challenging.
The clubhouse is good. The people are friendly. The price is reasonable. The pace of play is good. It is a bit short, and not overly difficult. A course that you can have a good time playing.
The only real downside is that there is no practice range. There are some nets to warm up. There is a chipping area. And there is a good putting green.
Overall definitely like playing there.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 09/30/2020Good not great
This was our first time playing the Links course at the Arizona Biltmore.
The location is good. The holes are mixed, some good and others not. The corse shape is only ok. The greens are decent but the fairways are mixed.
I play d all the way back. A reasonable challenge. My wife played almost all the way up. Good challenge for her as well.
There are a few holes with good views and others with apartment / condo views only.
We enjoyed the bar and lunch.
I doubt I will play the course Rae again.
Oakcreek Country Club
Played On 10/02/2019Very Nice Round, Amazing Views!
This was our first time playing Oakcreek Golf Course.
Far and away, the best part of playing here is the views. Absolutely amazing. Some of the best anywhere in Sedona!!
The course was in good shape. There was one hole that was being overseeded and some rough spots here and there, but overall, it was very good.
The layout provides a good challenge. The fairways are somewhat tight but fair. The par 3s were a good challenge. There are well-placed sand traps. And some carries. The course does wind back and forth so the fairways are near each other, but you do not feel like it is too tight.
The practice facility is nice. There is a chipping green and a decent sized putting green.
The pro shop is good as are the rest of the facilities. We did not eat in the restaurant.
There was a drink cart out on the course, but we did not see it the whole first 9. We finally saw it on hole 11, after we had stopped to get a drink and a hot dog.
There were no premade sandwiches - although the person at the bar told us in the morning that there would be.
Overall a very nice day!!
Hi u911999298. We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Oakcreek Country Club!
Eighteen Hole Regulation at Santa Teresa Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2019Decent course, fun back
This was the first time playing Santa Teresa.
The layout for the front 9 is uninteresting. The back is kind of quirky but fun. Speed of play was good. Quality of greens was very good except no one fixes their ball marks.
Overall a fun round.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 02/25/2019After Frost Delay, Great Round!
This was our second time playing Rancho Manana. It is a beautiful course. Not too hard, but with enough challenge to make it fun. We were delayed about an hour and a half due to frost. After that, the course was packed, but we still managed to finish in about 4.5 hours!
We love the place. It is beautiful. The people that work there are friendly. And so far, we have hit perfect weather.
I would recommend this to anyone that is good with a beautiful course that is challenging, but not hard. And a bit short.
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 11/26/2018Really fun round of golf!
This is our last round this trip to Arizona, and it was a good one.
The course was in really good shape. We were a twosome with a full course ahead of us, but we still managed to complete the round in about 4.5 hours. And everyone that we interacted with were friendly.
The course itself is fairly straight forward. It is easy to see where you are supposed to hit the ball. And the sides of most fairways are mounded to help funnel the ball toward the middle.
But there are enough challenges to make the course fun. There are well placed bunkers. There is water. There are plants, trees and dirt between holes. And there are undulations especially near the greens.
The greens were decent. The ball rolled well even though the grass is a bit thin and there are repairs that have not completely healed.
Overall - worth a visit.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 11/24/2018What a little jewel!
We were looking for a course that was just a bit out of town, but not too far, that would give us something different. Rancho Manana was exactly what we were looking for.
The area is beautiful. The views on every hole are amazing. The conditions were great. The people were beyond friendly. The course is a bit short, but more than challenging enough!
The only thing to add to all of that is - the course has lots of ups and downs. Some of the holes are up in the hills. There are some blind shots, but it is not unfair. There are lots of hazards. So you have to hit reasonably straight to score well. And the greens are good.
Oh, one more thing. This is a good course for women (not being sexist, just good for short hitters).
We will make this one of our regular courses when in Arizona.
Deep Cliff Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2018Fun course, good price, plays a bit slow on the weekend
We played a round on Father's Day. The weather was a bit overcast at the start but cleared up nicely. We got off on time and played with another twosome. We had a great time. The course is in decent shape. It is fun and a bit challenging as a short course. And it is beautiful!
Play was slow. It might have been because of Father's Day. The first nine took more than 2 hours (should be 1:30-1:40). The back was a bit faster.
Blackberry Farm Golf Course
Played On 01/21/2018Fun short course for the money
This is a short course that is tight but fun. The overall quality is not great but the cost is low. We had a lot of fun. Layout is a good balance of easy with some challenge.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 01/14/2018Course is in BAD shape
I have played The Ranch a couple of times. This will be the last. It is in terrible shape. The bunkers have no sand. One has weird old bags and weeds. None are really playable. he grass is spotty on the fairways and worse off. There is no water in the water hazards. The greens are a mess, spotty and lots of weeds. And the tee boxes are in bad shape.
The course is hard. You have to hit well to score. But in this condition it is not fun.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2017Fun Challenging Course
We played The Ranch on a perfect spring day. It was about 70 degrees and almost no wind. This was a good thing as it is spring and we have not played much. So wind would have made an already very challenging course impossible:)
The course itself was in good shape thanks to a wet California winder. The grass was good. There were some bare spots but overall fine. The bunkers were a disaster for the most part. It is clear that they have not done any work on them over the winter. Many have grass growing in them and not enough sand.
The course itself is a pretty serious challenge. There are a LOT of carries. I don't think there are any flat holes. But this is what makes the course great. There are safe places to hit on almost every hole. There are a couple of carries that are challenging for my wife unless she is in the perfect spot, and even then it takes a good shot.
Overall, I love playing at The Ranch and will do so again.
Thank you for taking the time to review Lookout Mountain Golf Club! We are glad that you enjoyed the course and we look forward to seeing you again!
