Very playable for both 7 & 18 handicap, tightens up a bit on the back

WIDE fairways & HUGE greens welcome you to the course. Back nine adds a little more challenge with uncertain fairway landing areas or "pick the right line" to carry the water from your tee.
My wife (18) and I (7) were first off on a very dewy morning and played in less than 3 hours. Greens were very true but, needless to say, the dew slowed them down. "Greens hit" here are a fine stat to count but you could still be 40 Yards from the hole! Count your putts instead!
She shot her handicap. I was 3 under mine with only 1 birdie. Will definitely play here again. Both for the course and the price value.

Poor customer service & slow play

I get it, it is a resort course and a foursome whom are not guests apparently aren't that important to their fiscal well-being and the survey cards they pled for us to complete were probably not read . But we did get a bag tag!
Confirmed tee time was delayed almost half an hour.
I give credit to the starter who at least kept us informed. We knew it would be a long day when there were 4 groups on the first par 3. Then we waited on every shot for over 5 hours. And never saw a "course ambassador" or whatever they called this invisible person.
100 degree heat and we did not see a beverage cart until #14.
We enjoy the challenge of Pete Dye courses but the lack of customer service here will eliminate this one from our future plans

Excellent Course & Customer Service!

My wife and I have played golf from Hilton Head to Hawaii and Canada to Costa Rica. As well as many courses in the Coachella Valley. Having driven by Classic Club for years, this was our first round there. Why did we wait!?!
No slight to any of those other courses but The Classic Club has the finest Customer Service we have ever experienced, anywhere.
From Bag Drop, to Pro Shop, to Cart Staging to Starter to Waitress - Kudos to you all!

The course is beautiful & challenging.
You play in 4 hours or less.
You have to finish before 4:00 and have the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich.

I will not continue my positive rave, but in the case of Classic Club, just do as Old Tom Morris on the commercial says "Go Play"!
It will be a most excellent adventure.

(All this is said even in light of playing like a hack and shooting 10 strokes over my handicap!!!)

Unknown to us course was being aerated tee to green

You can not argue the beauty of the course setting and the layout is typical Weiskopf (blind tee shots, tricky greens, elevation changes and a couple of tricked up holes) however.......
Bob at the Gate, Dmitri at the Pro Shop & Cole at Bag Drop were very cordial yet no one mentioned to us that the entire course was distressed and being aerated. We paid the "hot deal" price, still $150 for two of us. Had we paid rack rates, I would have stopped at 7 (the turn) and requested a refund. Speaking of the turn, you are not allowed to buy a beer or a cocktail unless you are a member. We Did have 4 bottles of water provided in our cooler at no charge.

Such a shame to have such a beautiful setting yet the course is in such poor condition. Caveat emptor to those who will be paying the $100,000 initiation fee in a month or so when the course goes private. Again. Hopefully, your money will help them provide you better course conditions than we experienced.

Challenging yet very playable course

One of those courses where 1) you want a GPS showing you distances to bunkers/washes/arroyos and 2) you wish someone was with you who knew the course and your target line for many tee shots - especially #18!

Very enjoyable course where course knowledge is invaluable.

Very playable course with forgiving fairways sprinkled with bunkers in landing areas and fronting most greens

Course was in very good shape from tee to green. (Albeit a bit soggy from a little overwatering of the chicken manure fertilizer that was being applied. Yes, twas a bit ripe on the back nine!)
Fairways are relatively wide and forgiving. Greens medium sized with moderate undulations and some subtle breaks near the cups. Maybe it was just where I placed shots, but it felt that every approach shot to the green I had to carry a bunker with the pin placed strategically behind it. I played from the Gold and my wife from the Jade tees. Different "looks" of landing areas from different tees on each hole - Gold tee appeared to be a very tight landing area, but Jade tee you could how wide-open the landing area actually was. These "looks" changed on each hole. Reminded me of a Dick & Rick Phelps-designed course in this aspect).
The 2 of us followed 3 groups of ladies (who were having a great time) and we all played in less than 4 hours never seeing the 2 guys behind us who "didn't want to play with a girl".
We would recommend the course to most anyone, especially at Arizona summer prices!
