Gorgeous Mountain Course!

I played this course a few years ago and really had fun memories of it. Although I found a few changes of the layout this time (the 17th and 18th holes, for example), the course is as challenging as I remembered it was. Vista is great and the overall conditions are excellent. The greens are as fast and true as any of the more expensive courses I have recently played. Unfortunately, I forgot to take daylight saving time change into consideration and struggled to find my ways for the last two holes. So be aware of the fact that it gets dark earlier here than you may expect. Have fun!

A Challenging Course!

Many, if not most, golf courses in Palm Springs have been constructed as part of the overall real estate housing development. Therefore, some courses, like those among the PGA West group, which were magnificent many years ago, are now clustered by houses and have become very unpleasant, for me at least, to play. The Classic Club is different. It is a stand alone golf course with magnificent mountain and water views for you to enjoy. The course is challenging with many water hazards and bunkers which require forced carries, if you want to go for it. Although some of the bunkers have packed sand, which should be expected during the summer, fairways and greens are in excellent shapes. In addition, the driving range is spacious. A minor complaint is that the GPS on the golf cart which I rode sometimes didn't seem to read the the yardage correctly. I ended up using my own Garmin for cross references. By the time I finished my round, the restaurant was closed due to its shorter summer schedule. However, I did dine there a couple times before and can attest to the quality of the food it served. In any case, my wife and I truly enjoyed the afternoon we spent at this club.

Aan Ordinary Venue

Purely out of curiosity to see what the course looks like, my wife and I opted to play this course. We found that this is a very typical golf venue constructed as part of the overall real estate development. There are many houses along the fairways. The overall design of the course is a kind of boring. However, because this is a par 70 course, it plays much longer than you might expect from the total yardage shown on the golf card. Greens were slow and bunkers hard. But for the Golfnow discount price we paid, we think that it is still worth playing at least once.

The Most Scenic Course in the Valley!

I have played this course numerous times before . This is one of the few courses that have panoramic views of the entire valley. The course design gives you an excellent feel of a desert link. However, being in the northern part of the valley, it could be windy and difficult to score well. Moreover, the condition of the club varies greatly according to the season. In this time of the year, the fairways are burned out and the greens have just received aeration. No wonder only the real diehards are playing. But I paid only $16 through GolfNow, which barely covered the cost for the cart. Play it anyway, for one can hardly find such a good deal often.

Excellent Resort Course!

I have played almost every resort course in the valley and am frequently dismayed by their rampant real estate development. This is one of the very few which locate its housing relatively unobtrusively. As a result, you have good views of the surrounding mountains and do not feel that you are playing in some back alleys. I have no reason to think that the overall design of the course is head and shoulder above any other resort club in this area. But the course is interesting and you encounter many such familiar challenges as water hazards, bunkers and island greens. Overall condition of the course is excellent. The only exception is the greens. Maybe because of the time of the year, greens are mowed to the bare minimum. They are not particularly fast, however. You have to constantly remind yourself to putt a little firmer. Practice facilities are very good and free. My wife and I truly enjoyed the experience.

A Club with History

Although it seems to have lost much of its glory, this is a club where celebrities used to hang out. The South is a newer, and probably the better one of the two courses. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is usually less windy than many other courses in the valley. Although one can see a few houses nearby, the course is so close to the mountains and is very scenic. Fairways and greens are well maintained at this time of the year. But the condition will likely deteriorate in the summer. In addition, the cafe serves good food and drinks. The only drawback is that the club does charge you $ 7 for a small bucket of practice balls. For the green fees we pay, this is a bad practice.

A First Rate Muni.

Although only the front nine were available on the day I played , I played this course before. And I have always been impressed by how well it has been kept as a municipal course. It is scenic and is not dotted with houses. On top, practice facilities are good and free. The only drawback is it is usually crowded and, with many water hazards and bunkers all over the place , the pace of play could be slow. However, I will return again the next time I am not pressed by time.

An Undulating Course

I played the Player Course on a very crowded day. Although the club seems to genuinely concern about the pace of play, it can only do so much as a resort. That aside, the club is situated in a beautiful environment. The housing is surprisingly not intrusive. As to the conditions of the course, I found that greens were true and fast and that fairways were excellent. My only complaint, for the price the club normally charges, was the sand coverage of bunkers, which are many, was usually thin. Although I did not score particularly well as a first time player that day, I will be back the next time I find a good deal again on Golfnow.

A Hidden Gem

My wife and I were intrigued by many good reviews of this somewhat out of the way club. We therefore decided to stop by and broke the monotony of our trip to other places. We are glad that we did. Except for a very few holes, most of the holes all have excellent views of the mountains behind the club house. While the course is moderately challenging, there are a few very long holes which certainly will test your skills and patience. All fairways were in good condition and greens were in great shape. The best part of our experience was that the course was not very busy. We were therefore able to tee off earlier than scheduled as twosome. Although I am not saying that it would compare to a grand cru, this club certainly is like a good regular table wine.

One of the Best Deals for Your Money!

The Boulder Course is the longer of the two of this club and is probably one of the best courses for the value of your money in Palm Springs. It is a beautiful desert link with virtually no houses near the fairways obstructing the views of the surrounding mountains. On the day I played as a single, I was able to played through three couples in front of me and finished the round in less than three hours. Although the condition of this course may become an issue during the rainy season, fairways and greens are in great shape this time of the year. I probably would have played it more often, if the club had paid more attention to its bunkers which, at least for the very few I was trapped, were covered with practically no sand. But as compared with some of the courses in this area which charge a lot more money and really give you mostly the views of people's backyards and less enjoyment, I would recommend this course to you without too much reservation---just keep off the beach. If I have to be precise, I would give this course a 3.5 rating.

A Pleasant Resort Course.

Gary Player's Mission Hills is a typical resort course. It provides enough challenges, yet is pleasant to play. The front nine is a bit more difficult than the back nine. I found that the fairways and the putting greens were both in very good shapes. Although most of the fairways were surrounded by houses, golfers still have some mountain views. If you are in Palm Springs for a vacation and don't want to bang your head against the wall by playing some ridiculous "must play" layouts, this course is for you. Practice facilities are free and the stuff members are very courteous. My exact rating is 3 1/2 stars.

It should be a fun course under the normal circumstances.

My impression of this course is bound to be biased due to the fact that it had suffered from flooding a day before my visit. As a result, the club had to close the first and the second holes. Some of the other holes did not fare any better as I joked to my wife that we were playing a course of a thousand ponds. Having said that, I believe that the course probably deserves at least a three and a half, if not a four, star rating under the normal circumstances. I saw many maintenance crew members working diligently trying to restore the course. Acts of God aside, I like the overall design of the course which is challenging, but not ridiculously difficult. Greens were not affected by the flood and were in very good condition. I hope to visit it again under happier circumstances.

One of those typical real estate development courses.

The course is located closer to the northern part of the valley by Hwy 10 and is easy to get to. On the other hand, however, it commands a more distant views of the surrounding maintains precisely because of its location. When you add that to its mature and fully developed housing by every fairway, it seems to be hard for the club to hope to compete as one of the leading clubs in this resort area. Having said that, all fairways and greens are fairly well-maintained. The 18th hole, the fairway of which feels like an island green, is very interesting. For the sake of variety, I have no reason not to try it out at the Golfnow discount price.

Beware that the real estate development is undertaken in earnest.

I always enjoyed playing this well-designed course when I visited Palm Springs. The fairways and green are usually in very good conditions and they were no exceptions this time. However, I found that the club has now undertaken an extensive real estate development. Some of the houses by the fairways even consist of two stories. Although I am not privy to the extent of the real estate development the club has planned, I believe that much of the magnificent views now still exist will be at least partially blocked. When this happens, it would be truly a shame. I for one may want to add a few more rounds before the club runs its predictable course.

A convenient venue for Palm Springs resident and visiting golfers.

This is an established club right in the heart of Palm Springs. It has dramatic views of the surrounding mountains, particularly the majestic San Jacinta ranges. I played the Legend which, I am told, is much longer and has narrower fairways than its sister Resort Course. On the day I visited this Club, it had suffered from two recent torrential rains. As a result, portions of a few of the fairways were still wet. Other than that, all fairways were reasonable and the greens were fine, considering it was during the summer season. As an older club, fairways are surrounded by well-developed real estate, which fortunately does not block the view of the mountains. If I want to be more precise, I would give this club a 3 1/2 star rating--excellent value at the discount price nevertheless.

An enjoyable resort course.

Despite the course is located at the center of the valley and therefore seems to have more distant views of the surrounding maintains, I still enjoyed the vista of this Club. The overall design is excellent. It provides enough challenges without overwhelming average golfers who come to the resort for fun. Fairways are generous and are in very good shape. Alongside their fairways, several holes have water, which actually should not affect your play too much. Most of the greens are protected by many Scottish types of deep bunkers with accessible areas for good approach shots. On the other hand, perhaps anticipating approach shots using long irons or woods, a few, such as the 16th, do not have sand traps near the greens at all. On the day I played, the Club sanded the greens. Even though I didn't mind that, I obviously cannot evaluate their true conditions. The Club has good practice areas conveniently close to the starting hole. I very much enjoyed this course and should find time to visit it again in the near future.

An ideal maountain/dessert couse for vacationers.

My wife and I played this course as part of our golf vacation devoted to mountain/desert courses unique to American golfing experiences. Although Ledges has not been rated by others as one of the top courses in the Southern Utah/Northern NV regions , we found it thoroughly enjoyable to play. Unlike a few of its more notorious neighbors, the course is moderately challenging with some spectacular scenery to make it almost ideal for vacationers. We have not encountered any holes which border on being ridiculous in design. We also found that both fairways and greens are well kept. While there are a few houses throughout the entire course, they are moderate in numbers, at least up to the present, and are not intrusive. As the green fees are moderately priced, we would recommend that you play it before it becomes clustered by real estate development.

An interesting course, but not as well designed as its sister North Course.

My wife and I had played the North Course, which was totally enjoyable, a week before we did the South. Unfortunately, it was a very windy day and our judgment might be affected by the severe weather conditions. For example, we could not even see some of the surounding mountains as it was very dusty. That said, we noticed that there were two or three holes where the fairways and bunkers really needed attention. However, as we got a good bargain through Golfnow, we believe that the South is still a very good value for the money we paid.

Because the course is in its winter conditions, you may not enjoy it as much as you would.

My wife and I played Glen Ivy before and really liked its layout and conditions. But it was in summer time. This time, we had a very different impression of the course. The fairways, at least those of the front nine, were in bad shape. Fortunately, all the greens were in reasonable conditions. That said, all staff members at the pro-shop and the club house, as well as the starters and marshals were super-friendly. If you can get one of those promotion deals, I suppose that you may still want to play it.

An excellent course which we will visit again in the near future.

The course is located near major highways and is therefore easy to get to. Except for a few holes where you will see the heavy traffic, most of the holes are seclusive. The most important thing for my wife and I is that there is virtually no, at least not yet, real estate development on the course. All holes are separated generously from each other and do give us a peaceful and quiet feeling. The conditions of the fairways and greens are excellent. And the food at the club house is quite good. The only drawback, if any, is that the practice range is a bit small. But then, it is still pretty adequate for average golfers like us.
