Unique Layout with beautiful views

Lakemont is a very unique layout with the first series of holes along and over the water. Challenging but not requiring a very high level of skill. Yardage book or review of holes on website in advance is very helpful. Some of the holes are not clear when on course regarding direction, carry, and layout. Not really blind shots, just need a little course knowledge to play some of the holes well and as intended. Conditions were good, some areas of fairways need some repair. Greens in good condition, but soft the day we played. Unfortunately many unrepaired ball marks from discourteous players ahead of us. I recommend this course for a unique round of golf.

Everything is in horrible condition. Staff unfriendly

From the moment we arrived - disappointment. The bag drop rack was falling apart. Cart person was not friendly and pointed to a cart and said "put your bags on that one". Peron in pro shop was not friendly, very abrupt one-word answers to everything. Pro shop and club house are tired and run down - looks like nothing has been done since "Jack and Arnie" played there as they promote on their website. Parking lot and cart area are decaying. Practice green is tiny and not maintained. Dot much difference between the rough and the fairways, weeds just blending together. The layout is actually fairly nice and if maintained this course would be worth playing. But you get what you pay for here at Rio Pinar. I wouldn't pay $10 to play here again.

Nice layout, friendly staff

Facilities are nice and clean. The staff in the pro shop, food & beverage, cart setup and starter were all very nice and friendly and helpful. Our round was played on Feb 3 so winter conditions prevailed, but were in much better condition than expected for this time of year. Course is interesting and somewhat challenging but still very playable. Occasional water comes into play but not some much to be excessive. We enjoyed our round and recommend this course.

Good Layout, Good Condition

After 3.5 days of rain I was impressed with how well the course drained. The overall condition of the course was good. Greens were a little slow but they might not have been able to cut them after all the rain (then only ended that morning). Played Red/White.

Poorly maintained, average layout

The management of this course overall is poor. We played January 13, 2017. Inventory in pro shop was low - 2 logo balls left, couldn't find yardage books, etc. The starter rushed us out to the first tee even though the scheduled tee time was 10 minutes away. The greens were in bad condition with fungus, plugs to fill in bare spots, etc. The transition from the cart paths to grass was like driving off a curb - sore back now! Fairway conditions were average considering time of year. Many bunkers were unplayable because of the condition. We met a few local golfers who said that the Owner / Management Company (Insperity) doesn't take care of any of their courses. That showed here for sure.

Nice layout, average conditions, no signage!

The course layout and conditions were nice. But there is not a single sign on the course! No tee markers, no ball washers, nothing. We asked about this and the starter said it's because the kids in the neighborhood keep stealing them. But local golfers we met said it's because the owners or management company Insperity doesn't care about their courses. We got lost a few times trying to decide which way to go to get through a tunnel or back to the next tee. I tried to buy a yardage book in the pro shop bubt they don;t sell them. The greens were in decent condition and the course was a fairly nice layout.

Nice layout, challenging but fair

Very nice course in a golf home community. The layout is challenging but fair. The greens had just been aerated so I can't comment on them, but the shape and layout of the greens was nice. Some holes are a little bit blind so knowledge of course layout is helpful. Get a yardage book if they have them, we didn't think to look when we checked in. The staff was very friendly - from the young lady in the pro shop to the starter. Well stocked pro shop. I highly recommend this course.

Nice layout - friendly staff

We played Jan 2, 2016. Community course winding through a neighborhood. Fairways are a little tight, but playable. Look for the landing areas and play to them. Too far left or right and you're OB or in a hazard most places.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, starter was entertaining, rangers were nice.
It had rained for several days before our round so it was a bit soggy, but it seems that the course drains well because the conditions really didn't affect play.
Most greens were large and receptive and it good conditions. Overall it's not a long course, but the layout and design make it challenging. We would play here again if we were back in the area.

Enjoyable Course - Great Staff

We played New Years Day 2016. Community style course, and typically a little bit tight fairways, but very playable. Too far left or right is OB or hazard.
The staff was great, friendly greeting in the parking lot when we arrived with a cart for us and some suggestions about checking in and course facilities.
All staff was very friendly and knowledgeable - inside the pro-shop, the starter and course rangers. Cart looked almost brand new.
It had rained quite a bit the week before playing so the course was a bit soggy, as expected. But it seems to drain well and it didn't really affect play.
The greens are a bit tired, some worn spots and some fungus here and there. But all were playable.
We enjoyed our round and would consider coming back if we are ever in the area again.

Enjoyed this course - will be back in the spring

We played Indian River on a cold and windy afternoon Nov. 13th. The course was in surprising good condition given the time of year. The layout is very well done - especially considering it winds through a community. Some community courses are too tight and require perfect drives down the middle. This design allows plenty of opportunity from the tee boxes. The greens were very fast, but in nice condition. Not sure if it was the time of year or always that fast. We will be back in the spring to play again to see how it plays when it's green again. Very much recommend this course.

A Gem in Greenville

We were greeted in the parking lot when a staff person brought a cart out to our car for us. The people in the pro shop were very welcoming and got us on the course quickly, the starter gave us a few helpful tips about playing the course. Conditions were fantastic, this is a very well maintained course. The course is challeging without being too difficult to be frustrating for a 14 handicapper. I highly recommend play this course, you will enjoy every bit of it!

Great all-around course in Spartanburg - Greenville area

My wife and I played Nov. 10th. The course was in great condition, especially for this time of year. The fairways are a bit on the tight side, but not crazy. The course winds through a nice community, so there is OB on many holes, but plenty of rough to work with on wayward drives. Greens are great, challenging - but fair. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. A long distance at time between the green and the next tee - don't plan on walking unless you're a pack mule! This is a great course, we will be back to play for sure!

Great conditions, unique layout.

The course was in great condition. They put out a basket of fresh apples on the first tee, nice touch! Was a sort-of rolling layout - challeging form the back tees, but enjoyable from the middle or front. I highly recommend this course!
