Executive Course

Booked this course on Golf Now. Not sure if I missed it, or maybe it didn't say, but this is an executive course, par 62. The staff, inside and outside, were extremely friendly and even funny. No bunkers on the course and the greens were bumpy, so really this is a great course for brand new golfers and those with the grim reaper following their foursome. The other positive is that if you've never made a hole-in-one, you have 11 par threes here I think, so it almost triples your chances. It was kind of fun for a change, to play a short course, but I just wish the greens were smoother.

Too uppity for me

Their "members" are too uppity to be paired with a walk-on like me. Even though they aren't even private, they have "members" I guess who feel too important in life to be bothered with someone who is not a member.

I know Las Sendas is trying to go private and is having trouble finding enough members to make it happen (the assistant in the shop says they're at 180 and need 325) but with a culture like the one I saw, I seriously doubt they'll ever get to their goal.

I've been members of "real" private clubs since 1987, but I'm new to the valley and I haven't joined a club yet. I was toying with joining Las Sendas when it becomes truly private and even moving there but after this experience I'm headed to Superstition Mountain. Now, I know these "members" could just be two bad apples, but the pro had warned me in advance that their "members" don't necessarily like to be paired with non-members.

So as for my review, I haven't played alone since 2001. I made a hole-in-one that day and vowed never to play alone again. Therefore, I received a refund and walked out of Las Sendas for the last time. So I can't rate the course, but I can say the greens were perfect in February and went downhill fast after the first heat wave of the year in March. I played the course four times this year and each time the greens were progressively worse. They have punched them since the last time I played and hopefully that will help. I like the course, but sadly the people there have forgotten that camaraderie is what makes golf great!

Play the correct tees!

The Paiute Wolf course is really a great test of golf. The greens are tricky but manageable. The dude in the pro shop had the personality of a rock, but four different cart girls and the one in the halfway house were incredibly friendly and made up for the rock. Also, the bar/restaurant staff were great and we had a table overlooking one of the 18th greens (three courses on property).

The 15th hole on the Wolf Course is very close to the Island 17th at Sawgrass. There are a few differences but now that I've played both, it's almost like you're playing the famed par 3.

Just make sure you choose the right tees. Two sets of tees are over 7000 yards and the third one back (Yellow) is more like 6500. The Yellow was plenty for this 3-handicap. Enjoy!!
