Slow Saturday but nice renovation of the clubhouse except no showers

I wish they would have kept the showers in the locker rooms

Been a while since I played Winstar

We arrived early and were greeted by my favorite Cart attendant. He quickly loaded our clubs and had us headed to check in. This was my first time back since the Clubhouse reopened. It’s a fresh look and still has the same basic layout as before it closed a few years ago. They did eliminate the lockers and showers in the men’s room which was disappointing since I travel from an hour away and enjoyed that after a hot day on the course. I probably won’t go to the Casino afterwards if I’m sweaty and greasy with sunscreen. The practice facilities were in top notch condition except it was time to move the tees on the range as most of the grass had been dug up from others that morning earlier or they had not moved them from the day before. The chipping and putting greens were excellent. We got to go early and were sent to Redbud which is said to be in better shape than Scissortail which we had made our reservation. There were a number of bare spots on every hole from either the summer drought or the winter freezes that hadn’t recovered. The greens were firm and fast, very few shots at the pins held their place. The tee boxes were in great shape and the rough is deep enough to swallow your ball with an incredible appetite. Had one grumpy cart attendant when we made the turn because we asked for ice since the cooler by the course was empty. The beverage carts were plentiful on a hot day and the ladies were very nice. The pace of play was poor. We waited on every hole by the time we reached the third tee. I’m a little disappointed that there was no Marshall.

Long Drive

Long drive for a disappointing day on the golf course. Pro shop guy was nice enough but said he didn’t have my reservation at first. Then called me by name before I had a chance to say it. Possibly a common occurrence with the distance from connection I experienced with my mobile device.

Practice area is a small chipping green and putting green with a range that I never saw. They were offering range balls that looked like the ones found on the course lost by playing the poorly mowed weedy fairways. Tee boxes were mostly weeds and needed a hammer to put your tee into before your shot. Greens were okay but had so many ball marks that I had to repair several on my line almost every hole. Also the pins had not been changed and the cups were wore down on every hole. Some greens needed treatment for weeds while others needed sod replaced in several areas.

The scenery is beautiful and the elevation changes make it a tough track at times. All the bunkers have been allowed to grow over with grass. It’s a picturesque goat ranch in my opinion.

Play was unbelievably slow with no Marshall in sight. We could see that groups of five players were measuring putts to see who was out and holding up playing. Saw the name of what looked like the owner on a bag in one of the carts used by them while I was waiting to TeeOff. Was told there was a group of 19 that played every Sunday and they had privilege. The group immediately in front of us quit at the turn.

I have been wanting to play this golf course for years. The trip was my first and last in the same day.

Clubhouse is closed

The golf course is awesome! In excellent condition and a fairway shot is heavenly due to the green winter grass. Unfortunately the clubhouse is closed for renovation since late last summer and won’t be ready for the coming summer or next. They have not started on the work? There are some circumstances that are not allowing them to reopen it prior to the delay of starting the work. It was a nice place to grab a drink and food before during and after playing. Hopefully they figure it out soon and get it back open.

They punched the greens and didn’t advise on the website

I came to play this afternoon because my home course had punched the greens. Get here and find out on the first green these are punched too. Nothing putted true even though they had top dressed and rolled the greens since the heavy rains last week. I’m sure in a few days they will be better. Only saw the beverage cart once on the front and back nine. It was really hot out this afternoon and we could have used a few more beverages. The course is in great shape except for the greens. Kinda disappointing after many previous rounds played here. I’ll be back and call before I book on Golf Now.

Great Friday afternoon.

Everything about this place is always good. They do have some ground under repair on the North Course, which was my Front 9.. The South course 9 was awesome and have played the west course 9 many times. Wind was strong but that’s no fault of the staff or layout. Staff were friendly and helpful, just never saw a beverage cart, no big deal I always pack some water and snacks. You have to check it out.

Slow Play kills a great day of Weather

Mid January is always chancy at getting great weather for golf. This particular Sunday afternoon was beautiful with light wind and warm enough to see some players in shorts. This course is in awesome shape for all the overnight freeze/frost we have had this fall and winter. However, the pace of play is horrendous when you have to wait on every shot for the group in front of you, in front of the group in front of the the group in front of the group. TeeOff was right at 2:00 pm and it was a 6:45 finish in the dark. Why don’t they have a Marshall and instruct people to play ready golf? They also closed the makeshift snackbar and outside bar before we made the turn before 5:00 pm. Only saw the beverage cart on the front nine about hole four. Problem was she was pre occupied with text someone and not paying attention to customers. This once was one of the best in the area, well managed and top notch. It’s slipping.

Course in Recovery

Tour 18 Dallas is in recovery after a minor renovation this past summer. They closed from July to September to address issues with all the greens and turf on some holes. They have done a great job. This course has been through loss of greens over the past several years from well known mismanagement by the superintendents. They may have pulled off a great repair job and if the weather is good in the spring could have one of the best facilities in the area. While I have been playing golf in this county for 46 years, I am convinced they may have been able to turn the conditions around for years to come. Time will tell.

Great Greens, Fairways and Tees!

Didn’t know what to expect since morning freezing Temperatures had arrived in the Red River Valley a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find over seeded Tees and Fairways with the smoothest Bentgrass Greens in the region. This place is a great experience from the minute you arrive in the parking lot. A cart is brought to you and your clubs loaded. The Pro Shop staff are friendly and helpful. While the clubhouse is under renovation the locker room is open for use. A temporary bar and food trailer are available for refreshments and something to eat. On course beverage service is always friendly and timely. Shout out to Dale, Cory and Lacey for always making me feel at home! It was a great day of golf even if I did hit it a bunch!

Greens are poor and tees are too

Played early this morning and it was a great day for it. However the greens and tee boxes were not well maintained. Several of the bunkers were full of rocks and had to take a drop to avoid clubs damage. You would think after 25 years the course would be in tip top condition with the spring that we have had in North Texas. Green fee paid was 50% too high for what you get on $80!

Windswept link style course on the south shore of Lake Lewisville

Softened greens after recent rains made it easy to fire at the pins. Really soft course conditions made for cart path only rule day played. Good value, good condition after hot summer.
