Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
Played On 04/04/2017A lot of rust
So the weather has dried out at last and I decided to take out the sticks and got a 12:18 tee time and showed up a little late. No problem the staff was super friendly and got us out right away. This day was far from my best as I have not hit a ball in months and my mechanics were off all day. Conversely my partner who in notorious for erratic shots had his best day ever after the same layoff. This course is hilly and they still have several holes that are cart path only. the greens were nice and mostly recovered from a recent punching. The rough is pretty high and the fairways narrow and you can lose a lot of balls even if you see where they landed. The wind was mold today and weather perfect. This is a great time to take your game back out. I would suggest hitting a few times at the range first if you are coming off of a layoff.

Hi this was a great day to play golf on the coast. I came down from San Jose and joined 3 other great guys for a 4 hour lap around the track. I was late and out of the car onto the tee and was horrible for 9 shooting a 50 then got it together on the back for a 38.
The greens are hard and you won't need to fix any ball marks out here and good shots often ran through the green. The fairways are pretty bare but considering the drought we can expect more of this everywhere. Had a great time and capped it off with some good beer from a local brewery a red English ale and decent food on the deck. We sat on the deck for an hour from 6:15 to 7 :15. When it was time to leave I regretted my front 9 and wanted to hit a last ball at the 130 par 3 1st hole. This final shot was nagging at me the whole time on the deck considering how badly I shanked it to start the round. I really wanted a chance to erase that memory. I got a wedge and a ball and the employee came out and said you can't do that you have to check in. i told him I already paid for the round and was wanting to hit a final ball for some fun. He insisted a replay fee would be required. I informed him my party just spent another $100 at the lounge and I was only wanting to hit a single ball. He stuck to his guns about this is city property and policy. Mind you no one had teed off for an hour and no one else was going to tee off. Any like so many people they can't think public relations and make a very minor exception he tainted what would have been a 5 star review. There are way too many people who can't think and make choices that extend a bit of friendly atmosphere and appreciate good customers who made an effort to spend their money with them. I enjoyed the course but would likely take my post golf refreshment somewhere else as a result of this incident.

I booked my round for Wed but thought I booked it for teus so I ended up playing both days. This really helped as this course has some slopes and nuances that will make determine strategy that only come with experience. I made a few good shots on Wed based on mistakes learned on Teus. The wind died down both days at about 2 pm the greens are pretty fast and hard but will hold a good shot. You need to miss below the hole as most greens slope pretty well down hill from back to front.
The staff was friendly and the course well maintained. This course is better than most and this time of year spring is the best time to play it. Mid week no waiting played all 3 9's and all are cool.

I played the East Course and the day was perfect 70 and clear with light winds. One two some in front and no one pushing from behind. The course was excellent. The course is a little short from the white tees and the grass is very healthy on the fairway and rough. The course has plenty of old trees and some overhang the fairways forcing you to either go over around or under. The greens were soft and receptive and rolled true. They will reward a good shot unlike so many courses where a good shot just bounces off the back of the green. The place is quiet no cars and the scenery is awesome. The staff was very cool. I came over an hour from san jose and it was worth it. A yellow ball is a good idea as the rough in some areas it is hard to find a white ball. Watch for golden bears.

The Ranch is very fun and the views are spectacular. You have to pay the price of a few rounds to gain local knowledge as to where to aim. Each tee box gives a course a different play as the further back you play from not only adds distance but changes the angles into the fairways. Many elevated tees with diagonal canyons that you have to hit over on several holes. There are no opposing fairways that you can hit into. Pretty much OB left and right on every hole. You have to stay on the cart path and get a lot of walking in. The course will present plenty of uneven lies. The greens are in good shape and the fairways excellent. Pretty wide open mid week. Bring plenty of ball and watch out for poison oak around the OB areas by the creek.
