Pebble Brook Golf Club - South Course
Played On 06/11/2017Unplayable
The course is pretty basic, no signature hole, nothing about the course is really memorable. It's been dry recently but it's evident they haven't watered the course at all. The greens were so firm they couldn't receive even a wedge shot. After the first three holes we just started playing the yardage to the front of the green and hoping the ball wouldn't release over the back. I understand it's a relatively cheap course to play but even a cheap course needs to be playable and this was not. I won't be back.
Bear Slide Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2014Bear Slide Is A Must Play!
Bear Slide is a terrific course. The course has an excellent layout and and is very well maintained. The course really challenges your shot making ability and punishes you with hazards if you have a miss-hit. The other challenge of the course is that it plays longger than the yardage on the scorecard. You have to be driving the ball well if you want any hope of making par. If you have a relatively low handicap and want to challenge your game then Bear Slide is a great place to do that.
Eagle Creek Golf Club - The Sycamore Course
Played On 06/29/2014Always a fun time
I like Eagle Creek golf and with exception to only one or two holes I really like the Sycamore Course. It's convenient, a good value and well maintained. It's not the caliber of someplace like the fort or bear slide but if you play here and work it into your cycle of regular courses you wont be disappointed.
Winding Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2014Not my favorite course
I've played this course a handful of times. I usually can shoot pretty well her and since it's not too far out on the east side of the city and if there's a deal for around $30 it's worth the trip. At first the course doesn't appear very challenging but you quickly realize that if you're off of the fairway and on the mounds that line the fairway it can be difficult to recover. Many holes though are straight forward and offer plenty of fairway. Perhaps my biggest complaint with this course is that the surrounding area is just still being developed. The course winds through a community of newer generic homes and there are few if any trees to provide some separation from these homes and the fairway. The back nine goes into another part of the community where homes are still being built. It basically amounts to a construction site. Hopefully as the course matures this becomes less and less of an issue.
Coffin Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2014Interesting Course Design, Terrible Course Conditions
This course always floods. This means the grass seed that is put down never takes and the weed preventative that is used washes away. Because of this your lie in the fairway may not be any better than you lie in the rough. You would like to think that you'll be rewarded for good shots but at Coffin this is not always the case. Setting aside the issue of the course conditions the course has an interesting layout and at times is challenging. Several holes where it is better to keep the driver in the bag and select a long iron that may be more accurate off of the tee. The course is convenient and so if there's a good price and you're pressed for time it's worth looking at but for a good weekend round look elsewhere with better conditions.
The Fort Golf Resort
Played On 05/26/2014Great Track, Lots of Fun
This is easily the best course in Indianapolis. I played on in the afternoon on Memorial day. This means the course saw heavy traffic for 2 and a half days before I got on and the course was still in great shape. The course is challenging, there are several holes with forced carries, and the rough is thick. Additionally, many holes will leave you shooting to targets that are either below or elevated from where you are shooting so club selection is critical. There are some relatively easy holes too that can give you a false sense of ease. My only criticisim is with the yardage. I like to play roughly 6500 and there really isn't too much of an option for that. You're either short 6,200 yards from the white tees or long 6,800 yards from the blue. For someone who is a mid to low 'capper or someone who really wants a challenge this course is a must.
Saddlebrook Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2014Local course
This course is close , convenient and really very affordable (especially with deals from golfnow). There is also a good mix of challenges on the course, some holes are open and require you to hit a long driver, others will require more thought that would require a long iron. The holes are nicely laid out and present unique challenges. The biggest drawback to this course is the condition that the course is in. Bunkers are mostly unplayable, poor turf condition, uneven tee boxes, the list goes on. I know the staff does everything they can but this course gets so much traffic and so many people dont respect the course that having the course in this condition is inevitible.
The Trophy Club
Played On 9/28/2013A unique challenge
This is a very different course from what I am accustomed to playing. Usually I'll play courses cut into the woods, here almost all holes leave you completely exposed to very windy conditions. Tall fescue grass and deep bunkers are challenging. Furthermore the greens while large are very complex and a hard surface. The greens rolled fast so it required a lot of attention on approach shots and putts. Conversely the fairways are wide so putting a ball in play from the tee box wasn't an issue. Definitely the course was more demanding of your iron striking ability than your accuracy with a driver. Finally this course is long. I'll usually play around 6200 yards. The white tees leave you right at 6000 yards (short) and the blue tees sets you at 6600 yards. The extra yardage adds even more challenge as you're now looking at par 3 holes of 175 - 190 yards. If you're a very talented golfer the black pro tees will have you at over 7300 yards! After adjusting to the demands of the course I was pleased with my round. The course is in excellent condition and it was a fun to experience such a different course. I will definitely be back.
