I play it when I can when I am in town. Great greens. Cool layout. Lot's of birdie looks and some hard holes too.

Good fairways. Slow, but well grassed and consistent greens. The layout is wide open and easy. Hardly and bunkers or dangers. The course is short and the rough is short. They keep it in good shape and the people are friendly. I was expecting more character and water features due to the name and having crossed Pymatuning to get there, but there are none. There are very few trees or anything to frame the holes. The fairways are narrow, but the rough is so short that it does not matter. I will say, the back nine is a little harder and has more elevation changes and doglegs. If the front was more similar to the back, this review would be much different. Great course for beginners and higher handicappers.
Chardon Lakes Golf Course

I play this course a bunch. Bang for buck is great. The fairways, tees, and greens are generally perfect. The greens are as fast as they can keep them without making them unfair. They all tend to slope heavily from back to front, so stay below the hole. Bunkers are decent. The layout is tricky. The tips play much harder than the next set of tees, but most of the demand at Chardon Lakes is on the greens. The tee shots are at a premium too. There are a number of doglegs and the course requires accuracy off the tee. Well worth the price.
St. Denis Golf Course

Super slow greens. The fairways were a little brown and burned up but had playable surfaces. The rough was patchy and brown in places but still short and playable. I liked the course, but the pace of the greens was a turn off for me. The layout was different from a lot of the flatter courses in the area. Definitely worth playing if you want a different sort of challenge.

Fun layout. The front nine was much easier than the back. Greens were moderately paced and had a bit of undulation. Not the most scenic of courses, but tee to green it had nice grass and was fair. I played this before going out to see the Bridgestone Invitational. The two courses are quite close. It is a very wide open course like most in the area, but has a little more elevation change and teeth than the cookie cutter Ohio courses for $25 that are flat and have 20 foot high maples lining the fairways. Definitely worth a look.

I had higher expectations for this course because the other reviews had it pegged as "Excellent Course Conditions." Excellent they are not, but they are in no way bad. The greens were average speed and rolled pretty well. The fairways were decent, but do have some wet spots and some other places that were under repair. The rough was like most of the rough in the area and a little inconsistent, but the lies you get aren't bad. Half of the holes had some character and the other half were a little blah, but this place is definitely worth the low price. It is a feel good course. It is quite easy and has a number of birdie holes. The thing that amused me was they had 30 or 40 carts and they were all different. Most were ancient and dirty. Half of which had knobby tires designed more for mud than a golf course. Mine made a high pitched, keening sound the whole time and moved at the pace of those carts at the grocery store.

The course has a lot of grass and decent greens, but it is a swamp, literally (I think it was built in a swamp or wetlands). I did play 2 days after some serious rain, but it had not begun to dry out and there was no end in sight. Also, I played early morning. I like courses that have 7 am or earlier tee times, but only 11 of the 18 greens had been mowed and it basically alternated from mowed to not cut. There are some challenging holes, but it is mostly wide open. If I ever play it again, I will take my high handicap buddies and only if it has not rained in a couple of weeks. Good course for beginners and if dry it should have better than average conditions, especially at the price.
