Royal/Sabal at Grand Palms Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/17/2024Enjoyable Round
First time playing this course. The starter (sorry, didn't catch his name) was FABULOUS! Our group had gotten split during booking, and he magically got us put back together! Course conditions were's fabulous, but were fine. Greens were a bit weak, with spotty grass issues. We loved the layout, with many fun and challenging holes. Well worth our time, and we all enjoyed the round. Outdoor food tent at finish was a nice touch!

Love the layout of this course. Some very tough holes, but fairways are generally fairly wide and forgiving. Very enjoyable round of golf. Management is currently replacing all the bunkers - they said it should be done in a few weeks. The work did not disrupt our play.
The only issue we had was slow play. The course says they are encouraging people to play quicker, but our back nine was quite slow. Front nine in 2 hours, 10 minutes. Back nine in 2 hours 30 minutes, with lots of time spent waiting. Great, proactive Marshall on the front nine, but none around on the back nine (when we needed one).
Proximity of this course to the airport makes it a perfect place to play a round upon arrival or right before departure.

In central Florida, we're blessed with many excellent golf courses, and this tract is one of my absolute favorites. The course is always in beautiful shape. Nice practice facility (driving range, large putting green). Very friendly staff. DO NOT MISS playing this course while it is still available to the public (it will be going private sometime in the future).
Our only issue on this particular day was a slow foursome in front of us, and they wouldn't let us play through! No marshals on the course, so we had some frustrations waiting for every shot. Even so, our round was 4 hours, 15 minutes.

One of my favorite courses. However, on this day we had a GolfNow tee time for 1:00 PM. When we arrived, we learned the course had put a foursome into our 1:00 slot and moved us to 1:08. Seemingly no problem, except that they were playing from the whites and only one of the four golfers knew how to hit the ball! They played extremely slowly, often waiting to hit shots until the group in front of them was way in front. For example, on a par 5 with 300 yards into the green, they waited until the previous group was off the green! Then they proceeded to flub their own shots. It was so very frustrating. And one of the most frustrating parts was that we didn't see a marshall all day long!
As much as we wanted to hit into this super slow group, we didn't! Course management needs to get their act together and get some marshalls out there! That was inexcusable!
