SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 02/17/2020Interesting layout , declining conditions
We play Sun Ridge canyon once per year. We were disappointed in the declining conditions of the course versus past seasons. The greens were not in the best of shape ( could see all the remnants of the old holes), the tees were overgrown, and the desert washes were unkempt. It looks like the course has funding issues.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 02/20/2019Enjoyable round
Course was in good condition except for some low lying wet spots. Fairly wide open layout (tough to lose a ball) but many of the par 3’s and 4’s presented a solid challenge from the back tees. I’d play again.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 02/09/2019An interesting and enjoyable challenge
We had an enjoyable day. With multiple sets of tees, The course provides an interesting challenge for a wide range of players. The pace of play was very good-much better than my previous rounds here. (This was in part due to chilly weather and a few groups not showing up for their tee time). Course conditioning was pretty good, with the bunkers being the main exception (not enough sand, too hard to hit a proper bunker shot).
This was the first time I played the course in more than a year, since Troon took over the course management. They have not yet adopted the nice touches which I have come to expect normally at Troon courses (such as free range balls with your greens fee, towels in carts, divot tools and ball markers, and GPS in carts).
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 01/24/2019Great layout, decent conditions (except for bunkers) & slow play
This is a very good layout and fun course to play for all abilities. Overall conditioning was pretty good, though greens were very hard and ball marked, and several of the bunkers were unplayable because they were like hardpan without enough sand in them. The other big negative was pace of play-it took us 5hrs 15 min to complete the round. On the par 3, there would be 2-3 groups waiting on the tee-brutal!
Verrado Golf Club - Founders Course
Played On 03/02/2018Good balance of Enjoyable, Well Conditioned and Challenging
Verrado Founders was a great value and checked all the boxes for me- we’ll conditioned , challenging , yet fair and fun. There is good hole variety and generous landing zones off the tee, yet plenty of places where you can get in trouble with a wayward shot. The one minor negative is that there are some blind shots which require experience to navigate.
Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 02/18/2018This place is a disaster
Everything about our experience was a disappointment . We teed off 30 minutes after our scheduled tee time due to overcrowding on the course. The course has no practice facility , the conditioning was terrible , the layout was very disappointing (particularly the first 5 holes and the second nine holes) with several holes poorly conceived and designed, with insufficient landing zones and “Mickey mouse “ features. And to cap everything, the pace of play was terrible! After being at the course five hours from our initial tee time and only completing 15 holes, we had enough aggravation and drove off the course. I will never go to this place again!
River Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2017Enjoyable and challenging
This was a very solid public course at a reasonable price. It offered a good challenge while not being overly difficult. Greens were fast if you were above the hole! Course conditions were good on the day we played.
Talamore Golf Resort
Played On 05/04/2017Decent layout, bad greens
This is the second time I have played this course, with the last time being two years ago. I left the course feeling like the course conditions worsened vs. my last time here. Apparently, they recently completed a redesign of the greens and performed other course updates. The greens undulations were unnaturally tiered, and rock hard and not receptive to irons or pitches. The grass in the chipping areas around the green was sparse and barren in spots. Also, there are several holes with very deep, sod faced bunkers which we very difficult to play from, particularly with greens as hard as they were. Overall, I had a favorable impression of the course coming in to the day, but left disappointed.
SilverRock Resort
Played On 03/08/2017Great design, very challenging, but slow pace of play
This was my first time at Silver Rock and I came away impressed with the golf course. I am a 9 handicap and this course was very interesting and offered me significant challenge from the blue tees which were 6600+ yds (though you can push it back to 7500+ yds if you like to be tortured !). The course was in very good condition for a public course and the value for the money was pretty good. My only complaint is that the pace of play was very slow. It took us 4.5 hours but it felt like 5.5 hours because we waited on every shot.
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 02/09/2017Would be a great course if not for terrible greens
This is a very interesting and challenging course, with a lot of variety in the hole designs. The biggest negative is that the grees were is bad condition...very bumpy (and a strange color...almost looked like they were painted)...and a few of them are very unfair due to the severity of the slope and location of the pins on those slopes.
The women's tees were very friendly, avoided all forced carries, and 1500 yards shorter than the men's tees. Perhaps there should be a more challenging set of women's tees offered for the better women players.
We played in the afternoon , which meant that we played the final 6 holes into the setting sun, making the "wicked 6" even more wicked.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 02/04/2017Average public course
The layout was acceptable but course itself was not in great shape as compared to several of the other better public courses we have played. The greens were not receptive and there was not enough grass on the fairways and chipping areas, making it very difficult to play pitches and chips.
The starter at the first tee was very friendly but the guy working the bag drop and cart staging area was not.
They only allowed "50% distance balls" at the driving range which were only useful in helping you warm up, but not in deciphering how well you were hitting the ball.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 01/22/2017Friendly staff, decently challenging short and tight layout, Average conditioning
We had an enjoyable day with good pace of play, as we were one of the first ones on the course. The course is short but tight, with true greens. It was a good course to play for our first round in AZ this year. The staff was very friendly and helpful-They all deserve an A Plus. The biggest negatives surrounded 1) course maintenance (there has been a lot of rain and the course and bunkers did not drain well, and there were other areas-particularly around the hazards, which were not well manicured) and 2) the finer details were not attended to (cart was very dirty, no towels in cart, no sand in divot repair containers on cart). I also though the price was a bit high ($105 incl. tax) for the quality of course, but I guess that is what you get in AZ this time of year.
Quicksilver Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2016Still a very good challenge
I grew up in Pittsburgh before moving away in the mid 80's, and used to play this course when I was in high school. The tees, fairways and greens were in very good condition for a public course, and it remains a very strong challenge. We played in under four hours and enjoyed our day at Quicksilver.
Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
Played On 02/05/2016A good test and
Overall, it was a fun course to play. Tee shots are fairly wide with the challenge being the approaches. Course in good condition
Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 01/20/2016Poor condition for the price
I was disappointed with the very poor condition of the putting greens, as well as the rough. I thought that the course was overpriced At $79 given the quality of the course conditions. The best thing about my day was that I had the first tee time and so I was able to finish 18 holes in two hours.
Verde River Golf & Social Club
Played On 02/22/2015Off the beaten path but worth the trip
The course is beautiful valley overlooked by lush mountains....the scenery was gorgeous. The course itself was fun, with very very few trees and generous landing areas . We played on a very breezy day , and whether you were playing upwind or downwind made a Huge difference in the relative difficulty of the hole. For example, On the opening 390 yd hole, I had 65 yards to the green with my second shot, while on a 590 yard Par 5, I hit driver, 3 wood and 3 iron and was still short of the green. The course conditions were average, the rough was brown and dry, and it played firm and fast.
Because the adjoining real estate development has not yet taken off, The course still has the feel of a new or incomplete development, with a trailer clubhouse and several sections of cart path that are unpaved. But tee to green, conditions were acceptable.
Overall, it was worth the trip , and presented a fun challenge in a beautiful setting.
Thank you for your review! We're pleased that you enjoyed the layout of our course but we apologize that the pace of play was slow. We appreciate your feedback and we hope to have you back again soon!
