Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 07/02/2017This course bites back!
Every hole requires management to excel and the significant wind through the valley makes it play long. Course character will bring you back, probably having you humbly pick your tees that will enable you to excel. Not for the beginner but will capture the heart of the enthusiast. Greens good condition and particularly challenging, food is good, and staff is friendly.

The Links at Lakehouse
Played On 09/17/2016Great golf experience for the money.
Great golf for the $$. Easily permits of a three hour 45 minute weekend pace. Notably friendly staff. Course apparently short, but interspersed with a few long holes, and many of the holes made very challenging by wind and course layout, all make this par 71 course a significant challenge, yet affording playability for golfers at all levels.
Arrowood Golf Course
Played On 06/19/2016Beyond the Typical Local Course
From this 16.5 index who plays to same, greens in above average condition, the Oceanside climate much more forgiving in heat than inland, wind through the westerly valleys will make some holes much longer than the scorecard suggests (Barona was 102 with Arrowood 90 and breezes), Coyotes and roadrunners abounding on the fairways. . . Range, practice green and trap/chipping facilities very good. Ted Robinson designed, the lay-out requires a few rounds to intelligently manage through the course, but what beautiful looks: often majestic from the tee as well as the approach. The greens, many elevated, in very good condition, significant undulations, which with the 10 - 15 mph winds made for a 1 - 2+ club adjustment on selection. . . From the tee, Robinson gives a serious target look making it quite rewarding as the ball looks like it was shot out of a bow and arrow as it hits your spot. However, on arrival to your 2nd shot, it becomes apparent that the spot you thought was best may not have been what Robinson intended, e.g., a particular dog leg configuration left you with an impaired approach than discerned from the tee; the 18th hole appearing from the tee to be a great finishing hole, but on arrival at the approach shot, the great shot actually should have been to the left because the 265 - 300 yard great drive (blue vs. back tees) on the right is unsuspectingly vulnerable to the protecting lake. . . Ditto on the greens, not only with many of them elevated, but also are hidden (again, requiring a few rounds to really manage and attack the course). Specifically, a few have significant peaks and valleys in close proximity which if visually discerned in advance of the approach shot, would enable the golfer to manage for the eventual putt rather than being surprised by the putt that now has to be made. Clearly an echelon course and conditions. As in comparing fine wines, this golfer prefers in a perfect golf world that the best course management is obvious with the risk/reward easily discerned, rather than making the good and intended shot only to be surprised on account of the designer's hidden design features. . . . Highly recommend the course and definitely will become familiar with the course to eventually attack it.
