The Club Renaissance
Played On 08/14/2016I'll give it 3.5 stars
It's a good course. The course certainly has teeth with water seemingly all over the place.
It's probably a course you need to play quite a bit to get a handle on how to play it. There are quite a few shots that have hidden water hazards or red steaks that aren't easily visible from the tee box.
Course condition was good. Greens were good and rolled true. Fairways had some dead spots but overall I would say they were in good condition.
Bloomingdale Golfers Club
Played On 08/12/2016Great course for the value
I live in the vicinity of Bloomingdale so I have played the course more tha a couple of times.
First let me say this, the course is 200% better than it was last year around this time. I nearly vowed never to play it again. One year later the course has totally redeemed itself.
My round was only hampered by the 2 inches of rain that fell the night before. The fairways were soaked (which could not be helped, but the greens were in great condition and drained well.
Regarding the course...I love the front nine with its challenging holes with Hole #9 giving you the ultimate risk/reward Par 5.
The back nine is another story for me, there are a couple of 90 degree doglegs that I don't particularly enjoy. The final hole is missing something. For me it's a 3 wood into a very narrow corridor and another 90 degree dogleg to the left.
Overall for the money it's a very nice course that I think you will enjoy. It's no pushover but if you hit good shots you are rewarded.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 08/04/2016Love the layout...love the course
I am a big fan of Royal St Cloud Golf Links which has 27 holes of American Links style golf representing a Scottish nine, a Irish nine and an English nine.
Unfortunately my play ended shortly after my 13th hole because of lightning, but that did not take away from this great course.
Positives:
I love links golf and links style courses are fairly rare here in the States.
The layout gives the player some nice challenges of risk vs reward shots. I like to have the option to take a riskier line for more reward or the option to dial it down for safety.
There are quite a few beautiful holes
Finally for the money it is very hard to beat this course
Negatives:
The greens were slow for my taste. The last time I played there they were a bit quicker.
Lake Wales Country Club
Played On 07/17/2016Hard for me to write this...
I am a huge fan of Lake Wales Country Club and it is honestly one of my favorite courses in Central/West Florida. For the money is usually one of the great value buys in all of Florida.
All that being said, Donald Ross is rolling in his grave today. I have played this course many times and it is usually a 4 to 4.5 rating, but the conditions were as bad as any course I have played in some time.
- Fairways had some weeds
- Bunkers were impossible because the sand is all but gone, liken it to hitting off a cart path
- Greens were at least 30-50% dirt
I pray the course comes back because I won't until it does. I walked off the course after 9 holes depressed about what had become of this course that I love!
A Donald Ross Gem
I love this golf course. From the historic clubhouse to the layout and condition come step back in time and play this Donald Ross Gem.
The bunkers are strategically placed, the fairways have subtle twists and turns and the greens are in great shape.
It's like stepping back in time- I half expected to look across the fairway and see Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen.
Rockford Country Club
Played On 07/06/2016Stunning course on the river
Rockford Country Club is one of my favorite golf courses in the Midwest. Originally built in 1899 it is a pre-1900 golf course that has certainly stood the test of time.
The course has a great mix of short and long holes, open and wide fairways and it makes you think as much as any course I have ever played.
Interesting facts:
-> Fred McLeod was one of the original golf pros who later went on to win the 1905 US Open.
-> RCC has two square shaped greens
-> Back in 1899 RCC had one of the longest golf holes in the United States. The hole was a combination of what stands as two holes today...holes #4 and #5.
-> The course has hosted many great golfers including Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan.
Streamsong Resort - Red Course
Played On 07/01/2016Best of Florida
One of the best golf courses in the country and easily the best golf course in the state of Florida. It is an American Links style golf course built out of the phosphate mining grounds of Mosaic- a brilliant repurpose of the land.
Beautiful routing, great holes and great fun.
Wild Horse Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2015The best course under $50 and its not even close
I have played at least half of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the US and this course holds a special place in my heart.
Put it this way...if this course had a view of the ocean it would be in the Top 5 on everyone's Top 10 list...it's that good.
It is an astonishingly beautiful golf course with great everything...layout, privacy, quiet, bunkers, greens you name it this course has it. It is the epidemy of golf's version of Field of Dreams.
Interesting tidbits...it's one of the hardest golf courses to find, it is literally surrounded by corn fields on a gravel road (Field of Dreams?).
It is unbelievably quiet. I have played the course 5 times and when I have played alone I swear I could have heard my heart beat in the quiet. No cars, no planes flying over and the way the course is laid out you really don't see other groups.
I don't hand out 5 stars often but this one is a no brainer.
