Bacon Park Golf Course
Played On 06/05/2020Exceptional Muni
Bacon Park is probably the best shape it’s been in since I’ve played it, with my first experience occurring 25 years ago. The course has seen some layout changes but the most recent formats have had a few years of development and the fairways and greens were in good shape. Still lacking a cart path and halfway house, the Donald Ross course Design is challenging enough for experienced golfers But forgiving enough for beginners and high handicappers.

The layout of the course is very fun. Provides a challenge on the greens without making it unplayable for a hacker. However, it needs a few things to get to the next level. First thing they need is to spend the money to lay a cement cart path throughout the course, and then enforce cart path only or 90degree rule on the rainy days/weeks we get. The course is so beat up from the carts and mud that I don’t know that it will ever recover. Next would be to identify pin locations and share with the patrons playing. Simple way to improve the course and help out the paying customers. Last thing would be to put a concession stand/restrooms/vending machine station at the 9th green where the 4th green and 5th and 10th tee boxes all meet. Do those things and the course will be top notch!

Played On 03/15/2019Groups sent out every 10 mins, but level of play by golfers takes 15 mins per hole, resulting in long waits and delays every hole. Need someone to better regulate start times and pace of play.

I read other reviews before purchasing a tee time here, but took a chance. I have to say the course was in much better shape than many of the other reviews mentioned. Credit to the guys in charge for greening up the tee boxes and taking care of the fairways and greens. For the price it’s definitely one of the best values in the area and by summer should be a great course to play. My only complaint would be the condition of the bridges on the course. Because of the layout, players on a different hole will cross a bridge that will rattle incredibly loud while you’re playing on a different hole.
One of top courses in Savannah
Crosswinds is probably the best course in Savannah value-wise. The conditions are top 3 for public courses, and for the amount you pay its worth it to have smooth fairways and greens and somewhat manicured rough. The bunkers could be in better condition, recent rainfall had the sand packed hard and standing water in some bunkers. Overall though, a nice, challenging course.
