Firecliff at Desert Willow Golf Resort
Played On 04/15/2018desert golf
This may be the prettiest course in the area. Many forced carries over desert hazards. You must be accurate with your big stick. Many hidden water hazards also. Driving from green to next tee box, you think you made a wrong turn because the course is only in plain site when you stand on the tee box. It is fun walking through the grounds to get to the next tee box. I very highly recommend this course.
Laurel View Country Club
Played On 04/17/2017dog track
This course must have been fantastic at some point in its history but is no longer. Tee boxes were half bare, sand bunkers were basically dried mud, cart paths were chopped up and dangerous to negotiate. That leaves the greens and they were terrible. This was sad to see. Hopefully a facelift is in its future.
Mill Pond Golf Course
Played On 04/09/2017A Fair Challenge
Golfers should warm up and find their groove before hitting their first tee shot. Nothing sucks more than getting your first ball wet. The course may not be long but the wind can make it very narrow. Hole 12 is very tough if you are not a big hitter. Keeping things shorter and in plain site may be a good strategy.
Iron Horse Golf Course
Played On 02/22/2017course management is the key
Not a straight hole on this course. Creeks running across at very strategic spots. Many hazards are blind from the tee box. I found keeping your driver in the bag and setting up your second shot is the way to approach most holes. The greens were very fast and challenging. Stay below the hole or possibly putt off the green and into water.

Second time playing this course was more fun than the first. I remembered where I was stung the first time and I proceeded with caution. This course is a lot of fun but you need to leave your bravado in the bag. I had a great time negotiating most par 4's with my 5 iron.
Swan Lake Golf Club
Played On 04/17/2016This course has hidden hazards.
I played with three of my buddies and we had a great time despite the slow pace on the front nine. The course has water in spots that can punish a golfer that does not manage his or her game wisely. The greens needed more work. The greens are twisted and hilly, putting downhill on a sunny afternoon can be quite a challenge. We all wrestled with this course for five hours, I walked off with my dignity in tact.
Cherry Creek Golf - The Links Course
Played On 11/01/2015keep your eye on the ball
The course was in great condition. The fairways were lush and green, the greens are rolled out nicely and just soft enough to be fair to a high handicap player. There are some hidden hazards that will come into play if you are not careful. The one problem for any course this time of year are the leaves. Our group lost balls that we were sure stopped rolling in the fairway. Many areas had too many leaves and were impossible to find a ball one foot off the fairway. This condition shrunk the course. We loved it.
Indian Springs Golf Club
Played On 02/20/2015Don't let the brown rough get you down.
This course has brown rough due to a recent drought but the fairways and greens are in excellent condition. The course plays along homes on both sides of each hole and close to the cart path (the guy I was playing with may have put a ball in someone's cereal bowl that morning). Many doglegs, many water holes and lots of fun.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 02/19/2015Brown ,sandy greens.
This course was lush and green everywhere except the putting greens. Fairways were rolling and hilly but nothing that was very tough to deal with. This was a typical resort course, nothing hidden and no surprises.
Resort at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/16/2015Excellent condition, very scenic
This is a great public course. Plenty of golfers on the course but we were not delayed nor rushed. The course is friendly to golfers that bend their balls off the fairway. The course was in excellent condition when I played. If you choose to play from the tips it will be quite a challenge.
Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
Played On 11/30/2014Bonus golf day in late Autumn
Middle Island goes from a very good golf experience to an excellent one when it is not crowded. The course is in excellent condition for any time of year and better than we expected for the last day of Nov. The course presents a challenge for all golfers. High handicappers can have a good time also. The water hole on Spruce is a great challenge and lots of fun. The GPS on the carts are a great help.
Pine Hills Country Club
Played On 05/26/2014Fun track to negotiate.
If you play in the afternoon, this course is a great value ($45 for 18 riding). The course was in great condition when I played. Tee to green everything was lush, manicured and green. There are plenty of dog-legs and water hazards to keep you thinking all day.Risk /reward is constantly being considered which makes gambling more fun. We always have a fun time talking about the round afterward.
Clearview Park Golf Course
Played On 03/22/2014Favorite For Locals
This course is a very good NYC muni course. It is long enough to let you use every club in your bag. It is also a forgiving course, except if you're playing against the fence. This is also a very crowded course, peak times usually result in a 5 hour or more round. Mid summer late afternoon rounds a very enjoyable with great sunset views of the Throggs Neck bridge.
Douglaston Golf Club
Played On 10/17/2013Great NYC muni course
Douglaston has old time charm. The course is hilly and short with many blind shots. You can still have fun with your driver even though it is a par 67. The greens were in great condition when I played. Queens golf at its best.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 3/28/2013This course is a great value for your money.
You better come ready to play on this golf course. There is no driving range but you can chip and putt before your round. Par 70 at a little more than 6,300 yards presents a nice challenge for any golfer. The course is tight, each hole is right next to the following hole or the highway. The pace of play is quick. I enjoyed my round a lot.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 3/26/2013This course had a better nature viewing experience than golf outing.
Overall this was a positive golf experience with some complaints. The course is laid out far too long, with lots of driving between holes. The elevation changes were fun but I wish they would have given us some idea of what the holes looked like because there are alot of blind shots. Many of the greens needed maintenance.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 3/25/2013The course was in great shape.
I was very impressed with the course condition. This is desert golf at its finest. All parts of the course are well maintained, including the non- hazard/desert wash areas. The morning ranger rushed us a bit. His manner was a bit harsh, he could have just asked us to pick up the pace. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and friendly. Golfers of every level can have a good time at this course.
