Scenic Layout - Will be Back

Enjoyed my round. It’s been a few years since I last played. I had forgotten the scenic layout of the Fri t nine. Overall in good shape. It appears they’ve decided to let the sand traps go - grass- weeds growing in a number of them. Not sure if a conscious decision or a maintenance-staffing issue. Played two days after Idalia came through, though, so they get a pass. Plus I only got in one - it was mostly under water but I found a spot to take a drop. I’ll be back.

First Time there - I’ll be Back

Nice course. Played on a Thursday, teeing off around 1130. Course in good condition. Greens have some areas that are sanded -being patched, so there was on occasional issue putting or chipping, but I can look past that. Nice variety of holes - uphill, down hill. Only complaint is that all par threes play about the same distance - at least from the Blues. I used the same club on all 4. Nice practice facility as well. Definitely coming back. Nice wild life on the course.

Ok - But Kind of Boring

Greens had been punched and sanded. 4-6 footers were an adventure. Maintenance was following me around the course for afternoon watering - they would never chase the Rats like that. Only interesting holes are 9, 16, 17 and 18. Too many short part 4s. But in great shape - except for the greens due to regular maintenance.

Progress is Being made

Course is on its 3rd general manager and course superintendent in the last four years. New GM has been on the job for a little over 6 months- new super, 2 months. Greens are recovering from some serious chemical mistakes made over the winter. They are coming along quite nicely now, as is the putting green. Fairways, bunkers and tee boxes need work. Avoid the South course if you can - fairways are closed on 2 holes (1 and 8) making it a par 33 and fairways on two others (2 and 9) probably should be closed as well. If play here and pay $60 for your round you will be understandably upset. More than $40 is too much, especially if you get stuck on the South course. But progress is being made.

Conditions Continuing to Improve - Give it a Try

Im a City resident, single handicap and play the course 2-3 times a week. If you only focus on the negative, yes there are issues: Tee boxes, primarily on the South course, and some fairways have bald spots. Fully acknowledged. Note that the course condition was not managed well by the third party manager retained by the City until they were terminated in 2020. This 27 hole course has 200 acres to maintain and gets about $400k in labor and supplies to maintain while most other courses, public as well as private, get close to double that amount for 18 holes with nearly half the acreage. City budgets are a challenge. Then we had the course completely shut down for a couple of months by the City during the spring of 2020 due to COVID reaction by the city. No revenue and limited maintenance at the start of the 2020 growing season. The new general manager and new course superintendent have each been on board for less than one year. 2022 is the first growing season that reflects their efforts on a limited budget. Results are obviously positive if you played last fall and now. Plenty of growth in most fairways, though a few need more work that is coming. Tee boxes - 1 And 8 South in particular- are getting significant help shortly. The course also has huge, overgrown Live Oak trees that adversely affect grass growth due to sun blockage and root intrusion. That is also starting to get addressed. While work remains to be done, it is still a great experience. The greens are in very good shape and have a lot of slope to challenge you. The South is a target layout - precise tee shots matter on every non par 3 - definitely not a grip it and rip it layout. If you can’t handle some challenging tee boxes, I suggest playing North and West. If you play South, and are loose off the tee, you will be complaining about the tee boxes all day and ignoring the issues with your swing and club selection. As far as value, it is quickly becoming the only game in Nassau County. Shop prices and you’ll see.

Stay Away For a While Longer

Fantastic layout but they butchered the greens and let the sand traps go. Greens seem to be coming back a bit but still an embarrassment. Glad all I paid was a hot deal rate of $35. The course is not ready for prime time. A shame, as it use to be well worth the trip. Still a great track, but stay away for at least another 3 months... .maybe more.

OK - Nothing Special

OK layout. A few of the par 5s really are long par 4s, so don't kid yourself if you get a 4! Driving range was mats only - not sure if that is the norm since it was my first time. Greens were a bit slow. Next to a local airport, which, for me, made it interesting - I don't mind the noise. Pace of play was ok before and after 10th tee.

Had issue after front nine. Came directly from 9th green to 10th tee and found a group of 3-4 carts with at least 8 people, kids and Dads, teeing off in front of me as a group. At least one course employee in the group wearing course t shirt. They hadn't been in front of me on the front nine - I had played with two guys on the front nine who quit after 9 and hadn't noticed the kiddie group anywhere in front of me. So, while waiting for the kiddie group to tee off, 3 guys showed up at the 10th tee as well, who decided, apparently on their own, to start their round there because they thought the 1st tee was backed up. I then called the club house complaining about the backup. They sent someone out to hold up the kiddie group at the 10th green and let me and the 3 first tee skippers play through. I was told that what happened was that the kiddie group had stopped after 9 to have lunch. Hmmm, I thought if you do that, you lose your spot. And who let's employees play with their kids in an 8 some on a Friday afternoon??? The kids didn't play every hole, but they were playing. And to make it more entertaining on the back 9, the 3 first tee skippers with whom I played the back 9 ignored te cart path only status that day (I walked). They got chastised after ignoring the more gentle reminders after the 10th hole.

May go back again, but not for a while.

Best Value in AI

Great layout. Great practice facilities. Great pace of play. My go to for AI. Last 3 holes will test you - 16 tee shot can intimidate and get in your head, particularly from the tips. 17 is an Island-like shortish par 3. 18 is a 3 shot par 5 for all but the biggest hitters with lots of trouble on all 3 shots.

Great course. Value is great with hot deals.

Great Value - Must Play Multiple Times to Fully Enjoy

Played 18 holes as a single on a beautiful Thurs. afternoon in 2 1/2 hours, teeing off at 12:30PM. Only played through one group -at number 10. Challenging layout, particularly off the tees playing for the first time. A couple of "funky" par 5s with Nos. 1, 5 and 18 that definintely need to be played multiple times to get comfortable. But as long as you control your tee shots, you can score quite well. If you are coming from fast green courses, be prepared - they roll true, but slow here . Overall, a great value at $26 (particulalry compared with other nearby courses) and I'll definitely be back again. Worth the extra drive.

Never On Monday Behind 5 Some of Owners Friends'

Played on a Monday thinking I could get in a quick round. All was fine for first 5 or so holes until we caught up to a 5 Some. Given that the course does have an " Ambassador" driving around I assumed they had permission. What was even more frustrating was that they played at a slow pace - walking back 50 or more yards to their cart, driving up to the original homestead house after getting off of the 11th green and causing a further back up on the 12th tee as a result When someone from the course drove by as my group finished the 11th hole and I saw they still hadn't teed off on 12, I flagged him down and asked if they were the owners. I was told that they were friends of the owner and there was nothing to do. The guys really did behave as though they owned the place and didn't care about anyone else behind them. Even at 20 bucks, it ain't worth it. Ive played numerous tines before but never on a Monday. And never again.

I are sorry to here about your disappointment. I did notice you booked this through the Hot Deal program. If you choose to play here again. We would appreciate you giving management a chance to rectify any problems before giving us a 2 star rating on Golfnow Advisor. We are a public facility, not private. Rules are a little more relax here. Yet, we do stress, to our Marshalls, to keep pace of play moving. The fivesome had no affiliation with Callahan Golf Links. Thanks,

Too penal and too many tricked up holes to justify a trip back

Played on father's day so slow pace of play was expected, as were tees being moved up a bit to try to speed up lay. I had seen many favorable reviews so thought I would try it and make the long drive from Alpharetta. Okay, the fairways are in very nice condition, and the greens (once they fully-recover from the cuts in another week or two) will be nice. But not impressed with the layout - a few too many tricked up holes. Thinking in particular of 8 - tricked up short par 4 that appears to be an attempt to squeeze in a hole out of limited space; 12 - a bit silly 3-shot par 5 for nearly every skill level with an overly penal third shot; 13 -worst tee shot/landing area on the course; and 17 - a close second ontee shot/landing are - that's the landing area for the tee shot on a par 5? really?. Not worth the trip - too many better options much closer to me.
